21.01.2022 you asked, we listened - were super excited - new designs arriving June It would probably be safe to say that when we were pulling together the designs for our new encaustic tile range at the end of last year, we didnt see a global pandemic coming. Along with most small businesses we have felt the crunch however we know these times will pass, so we are not giving up, we are not going anywhere. Thankfully as we are a family business and by establishing it only a short stroll... from our home, the work from home rule is not an issue. We have been able to continue sending out samples and packaging up orders. Unfortunately we have had to pause on delivering our own tiles across the border, instead adopting what we have always done for those heading to WA, Tas, and the NT by making a ply box specific for the order and sending them off via our preferred courier. At least this way you can be assured they will get there in good order. In fact, we are most excited that our new range is now on the water and will be with us in June. We have been busting to share this with you and to post our new beautiful designs on our website. And now we know they are on their way I have a bit of work to do. No more gardening excuses! So, keep your eye on our website for these additions to the range they will be posted progressively over the next few weeks. You asked, we listened. Each one of us is different. 01.01.2022 The process of making Cement Tiles is completely different to that of any other. The process starts with the making of a decorative mould, this mould forms part of the frame and the frame is what holds the shape of the tile. The tile is built from top down upside down. Colour is added by artisans to each section of the design in the form of a pigmented cement and superfine sand slurry. The decorative mould is then removed I still cant quite grasp how they are able to do ...this without messing up the colour layer! A fine mix of sand and cement are then added on top of the colour layer, a sieve is used to control the size of the particles and to ensure that the colour layer is not disturbed. A coarser aggregate of sand and cement is then applied by hand, which forms the body of the tile. The tile is then compacted by a hydraulic press. The tile is now formed, all that is left is a water bath and time for the tile to cure. The artisan in this video is making our Cuba tile - 5 different colours and 35 compartments. They are so precise and talented! Each tile made for us is made the same way, each one by hand and with the utmost care and . Thats why they are so special!
