24.01.2022 Area Command South Eastern has an opportunity to lead the way with a new generation of Divisional Commanders. This research survey intends to allow an opportun...ity for Area NSW RFS- Area Command South Eastern Members to have input on what the role of a Divisional Commander will look like in the short term and into the future. Following the Survey, there will be a targeted EOI go out to our Membership and recent Operations Officers and Incident Controllers to attend a 2-day forum, with the intent of developing a course/series of workshops. Following this forum, our Capability Manager will be communicating and sharing with the Capability Cohort, Learning & Development and Operational Performance across the State. This project follows from one of the recommendations of the 2020 Bushfire Inquiry: Recommendation 44 "That, to ensure suitably skilled and experienced personnel operate as Divisional Commanders during major fire incidents, Bush Fire Management Committees identify appropriate personnel as part of their plan of operations. " This is not just about changing what went wrong. It is a chance to provide input into what went well and we need to keep developing and improving. The survey is a short series of questions with the opportunity to give thoughts and ideas at the end. The survey closes on the 31st of July 2021. Members can access the survey by contacting their District Office within the south eastern Area command

11.01.2022 A person, who regularly attended meetings suddenly without any notice stopped participating. After a few weeks, one very cold night the leader of the group deci...ded to visit them. The person was at home, alone, sitting in front of a fireplace where a bright fire burned. The host welcomed the leader. There was a great silence. The two just watched the dancing flames around the logs that crackled in the fireplace. After a few minutes the leader, without saying a word, examined the woods that formed the fire and selected one of them, glowing most brightly of all, removing it to the side with a pair of tongs. Then they sat down again. The host was paying attention to everything, fascinated. Before long, the lone member flame subsided, until there was only a momentary glow & the fire soon went out. In a short time what was previously bright light and heat had become nothing more than a black & dead piece of wood. Very few words had been spoken since the greeting. Before preparing to leave, the leader with the tongs picked up the useless piece of wood & placed it again in the middle of the fire. Immediately, the member piece of wood was rekindled, fueled by the light & heat of the burning coals around it. When the leader reached the door to leave, the host said: Thank you for your visit and for your beautiful lesson. I'll return to the group soon. Why is a group important? Very simple: Because each member that withdraws takes fire & heat from the rest. It's worth reminding group members that they are a part of the flame. It's also good to remind us that we are all responsible for keeping each other's flame burning And we must promote the union among us so that the fire is really strong, effective and lasting. *THE* *GROUP* *IS* *ALSO* *A* *FAMILY* *It doesn't matter if sometimes we are bothered by so many messages, quarrels, misunderstanding etc*. What matters is to be connected. We are here to meet, learn, exchange ideas or simply to know that we are not alone. *Let's keep the flame alive within whatever group you belong to. See more

06.01.2022 NSW Crime Stoppers is asking the community for two things: Be fire aware, throwing a cigarette butts from a moving car, leaving a fire unattended or l...ighting a fire during a high fire danger zone can easily cause a bushfire and are all criminal offences. If you see someone throw a cigarette butt, light a fire during a high fire danger zone or carelessly leave fires unattended, report it to Crime Stoppers. The community can report a licence plate associated with throwing cigarette butts from a car window or details of someone who has left a fire unattended or deliberately lit a fire during a high fire danger zone. Any piece of information, anything you have seen or heard, may be crucial in preventing or solving a crime. We don’t want to know who you are; we just want to know what you know.
