25.01.2022 Thank A First Responder Day, 9 June 2021 NSW Rural Fire is proud to say thank you to the first responders who do so much for the community in which we live and work. #ThankAFirstResponder #PowerOfThanks

25.01.2022 The 2019-20 bush fire season was the most challenging NSW has ever faced - and took an enormous toll on communities across the state. After major events like this, we conduct community research to better understand how people prepared and responded to the fires. Your community may have been impacted by the fires, or it may have come close to being impacted. Through the UOW: University of Wollongong, Australia and the Bushfire and Natural Hazards CRC, we are keen to hear fro...m members of the community about their experience. 24.01.2022 A huge shout out to all our amazing fathers out there who do such an amazing job! Happy Fathers Day! #nswrfs

24.01.2022 Fire Weather Warning | Sunday 29 November 2020 Severe Fire Danger is forecast to occur for of most of Sunday across much of the Greater Sydney Area. A Total Fire Ban is in place for the Greater Sydney Area which includes the Blue Mountains Local Government Area. A total fire ban means no fires may be lit in the open air from midnight tonight until midnight Sunday night, this includes solid fuel BBQ and outdoor stoves. Significant penalties apply for persons who breach T...otal Fire Ban regulations. In Severe Fire Danger conditions, leaving early is the safest option for your survival. Well prepared homes that are actively defended can provide safety but only stay if you are physically and mentally prepared to defend in these conditions. If you’re not prepared, leave early in the day. #nswrfs #prepared #capable

23.01.2022 Can I light a fire in the Blue Mountains LGA? Before you light a fire, you may need to obtain an approval from Blue Mountains City Council. Depending on where you live, you may also need to ascertain whether a safety permit is required. If you are having a BBQ or plan to go camping, you can have a fire, so long as you follow the guidelines on the RFS website - www.rfs.nsw.gov.au... There are certain areas of the Blue Mountains that conduct pile burns on a regular basis (with approval). There are a number of properties intending to pile burn this weekend so be aware that there may be smoke in the vicinity of Mt Wilson and Mt Tomah particularly. If you see an unattended fire or a fire you believe is being conducted in a dangerous manner, you should contact Triple Zero (000) Below is a quick reference sheet about the rules and guidelines about lighting fires in general. More specific information can be found on the Blue Mountains City Council website - www.bmcc.nsw.gov.au or on the NSW RFS website.

18.01.2022 With an increase in the use of hand sanitiser, wed like to remind everyone that its ingredients are flammable. If youre planning a BBQ this weekend, please ensure that you completely dry your hands after using hand sanitiser before coming into contact with a naked flame.

18.01.2022 Minister for Police and Emergency Services, David Elliott, has announced Rob Rogers as the new Commissioner of the NSW Rural Fire Service. Commissioner Rogers has been acting in the role following the departure of Shane Fitzsimmons in May. Following a competitive recruitment process, Rob has been appointed to the role to see the Service through the next season and beyond. ... Im excited by the opportunity but also very mindful of the challenges ahead, especially after last seasons terrible conditions. I look forward to continuing on the path we have set over the past few months like our priorities which focus on our volunteers and community the things that matter most like improving the way we respond to incidents, and the trucks and equipment that our members use. The NSW RFS is an organisation that has been a part of my life for a very long time and Im looking forward to continuing to build it and support its members into the future.

18.01.2022 You know the alert levels of Advice, Watch and Act, and Emergency Warning. The way these are displayed on our website and Fires Near Me NSW smartphone app is c...hanging. Soon you’ll see these new icons. It’s part of the new Australian Warning System, to help you receive consistent information in emergencies no matter where you live, work or travel. While the icons may look different, what they mean doesn't change - you should check for information about what to do to protect you and your family. Keep an eye out for the new icons later this week. Check https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au//gen/australian-warnings-system for info.

17.01.2022 Smoke from planned hazard reduction burns being undertaken by fire agencies and land managers today in the Sutherland area and across the next few days in areas... such as Hornsby may settle in parts including the Greater Sydney, Illawarra and Newcastle regions. Light winds, along with forecast overnight inversions may see low level smoke from these burns draining in to and settling in the Greater Sydney region including central Sydney. Smoke will also likely be trapped in the vicinity of the hazard reduction burns and the Illawarra/Shoalhaven, Central Coast and Newcastle areas. These are important controlled burns which will reduce the risk to people and properties from bush fires. Planned hazard reduction burns will continued to be monitored and may be rescheduled to limit the impact of smoke on the community. For information on limiting the affect of smoke and for a full list and map of scheduled hazard burns visit www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/fire-information/major-fire-updates/mfu

07.01.2022 MEDIA RELEASE Wednesday, 25 March 2020 ROTARY EMERGENCY SERVICES COMMUNITY AWARDS HONOUR EMERGENCY SERVICES WORKERS... Nominations are now open for the 2020 Rotary Clubs and Districts of NSW Emergency Services Community Awards. The awards, now in their sixth year, recognise the dedication and service of emergency service personnel and volunteers from Fire and Rescue NSW, NSW Ambulance, NSW State Emergency Services, NSW Rural Fire Service, NSW Volunteer Rescue Association, Marine Rescue NSW and Surf Life Saving NSW. Minister for Police and Emergency Services David Elliott said the awards shine a light on the enormous contribution of emergency services workers. Emergency services workers and volunteers give so much of themselves to the community and ask so little in return. We are indebted to all our unsung heroes and will never take for granted their commitment to protecting the community, Mr Elliott said. The NSW community has been hit pretty hard of late, first by the Black Summer bushfire season, then torrential rain and floods, and now we are facing a pandemic. Our first responders have been on the frontline protecting the community from catastrophe every step of the way, putting the lives of others above their own. These are brave everyday Australians who do not seek recognition for the work they do and are often reluctant to stand in the spotlight and be recognised for their irreplaceable role in the community. Rotarian and Chair of the Awards Dorothy Hennessy said she expected to be overwhelmed with nominations this year, after the heroic and tireless efforts of emergency services personnel fighting fire and flood after a horror bushfire season. Nominations will close at midnight in Friday, 1 May 2020. A panel of judges from Rotary Districts across NSW will assess nominees on their community service, personal attributes, and contribution to their emergency services organisations. Members of the public and emergency service workers are encouraged to submit nominations online via the awards website at https://nsw.rescawards.org.au/. MEDIA: Shae McLaughlin | 0439 824 831
