22.01.2022 You know the alert levels of Advice, Watch and Act, and Emergency Warning. The way these are displayed on our website and Fires Near Me NSW smartphone app is c...hanging. Soon you’ll see these new icons. It’s part of the new Australian Warning System, to help you receive consistent information in emergencies no matter where you live, work or travel. While the icons may look different, what they mean doesn't change - you should check for information about what to do to protect you and your family. Keep an eye out for the new icons later this week. Check https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au//gen/australian-warnings-system for info.

21.01.2022 The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast heat wave conditions to affect much of NSW until at least next Tuesday. This will increase the fire risk across much of state with Very High and Severe fire danger likely on the weekend. Plan and prepare now.

18.01.2022 Fires Near Me App is to advise the community when there is an incident and what the Alert Level for that incident is. The different colours refer to the different Alert Levels. Alert Levels give you an indication of how serious a fire is, and what you should do.... Red - Emergency Warning An Emergency Warning is the highest level of Bush Fire Alert. You may be in danger and need to take action immediately. Any delay now puts your life at risk. Yellow - Watch And Act There is a heightened level of threat. Conditions are changing and you need to start taking action now to protect you and your family. Blue - Advice A fire has started. There is no immediate danger. Stay up to date in case the situation changes. White Diamond- is typically for an incident where crews are on their way, or an incident that has been automatically generated by people calling Triple Zero. Updates Incidents at Emergency Warning level are updated frequently. Incidents at Watch and Act are updated several times throughout the day, or as the situation changes. Some incidents, such as those at Advice or which have been burning for some time but not causing any threat, may be updated less frequently. We aim to provide information as frequently as possible, based on the information being provided by firefighting attending the incident. The Fires Near Me app shows the last time information was refreshed at the bottom of the screen. Each incident also has a timestamp showing the last time the information was updated. The greyed out area on the map indicate the burnt area of the fire. Gary passed away peacefully at Milton Hospital on 14/06/2021 after a short, determined battle with cancer. Gary commenced his membership with the NSW RFS in July 2002 and was committed to the protection of his community through his roles both with the Manyana Brigade and also the Shoalhaven Community Engagement Brigade. Gary held the role of Community Engag...ement Captain from 2015 to 2019 where he spent countless hours engaging and educating the community on fire safety, Gary represented the Shoalhaven District at a number of community engagement seminars and was the leading force behind community engagement in the Shoalhaven during his tenure. In 2019, Gary was elected to the position of Captain with Manyana Brigade. This position allowed Gary to continue his passion for community engagement, focusing on the community he lived in, while also leading and mentoring the Manyana Brigade through countless incidents. Most notably, Gary lead the brigade through the Black Summer fires of 2019/2020. Gary was also a passionate member of the Rural Fire Service Association, the representative association for NSW RFS volunteers and staff members. During Gary’s distinguished membership with the RFSA State Council, Gary advocated with passion on behalf of his fellow members and was a driving force behind the successful campaign for 40km/h speed limits around emergency vehicles. Personally, Gary was an avid train enthusiast and a long term blood donor with the Australian Red Cross. A Funeral Service for Gary will be held at Manyana Public Hall, 195 Sunset Strip, Manyana NSW 2539, conducted by Milton Ulladulla Funeral Services on Friday 25 June 2021 commencing at 11:00am.
