23.01.2022 The Conductors who are going to school next year have been engaged in planned school readiness activities. Each day children practice numeracy, literacy and self help skills. Literacy - Children have started recognizing their last names. Also, children have been practising attendance as they will do in school. During transition time children are encouraged to recognise the days of the week. Also, following children’s interest in reading words, children have started reading ...four words boy, girl, at and the. In the group time, we say days of the week and months of the Year. Numeracy - We practice reciting and writing numbers from 1-20. During transition time children are encouraged to count the objects, show the time on the clock, recognise numbers and so on. Self-help skills- In the Conductors room, we encourage children to become independent. Our children know to take care of their belongings and now as they are moving to big school we planned activities that will enable them to become more responsible. We had a lot of fun a few weeks ago when we hosted an insects enclosure inside our Emus room, full of caterpillars, beetles, stick and leaf insects and a praying mantis. 09.01.2022 We planted eggplants today! Prior to planting, we looked at pictures of what eggplants look like and had a discussion about different parts of the plant such as the stems and leaves. We dug two holes with spades and planted the eggplants. All of our Drivers then watered our new plant. We hypothesised it was because of the rain! When we tried to pat the snails, they hid in their shells. We hypothesised that the snails were scared of us!
