12.03.2022 The legend that was Remo Belli - he once said "Drums can be used by anyone for relaxation and enjoyment. They can be used for helping people with Autism or Alzh...eimer's, or for someone just showing up at a recreation center on a Tuesday night having a ball" An innovator, pioneer and icon of the world of percussion, he was an inspiration to us all for breaking new ground and making a difference in the world. He strived to expand the acceptance of rhythm and in particular drumming as an integral component of an individual’s wellbeing. See more

03.03.2022 The spirit of the djembe... The djembe is said to contain three spirits: the spirit of the tree, the spirit of the animal of which the drum head is made, and th...e spirit of the instrument maker. Traditionally, djembes were carved from a single section of the Lenke tree. A properly carved djembe is not smooth on the interior, but has a spiral channel inside which enhances tonal qualities. Drumheads are typically made from goat skin but more rarely can be antelope, zebra, deer, or calfskin. Each drum maker brings his own technique to the table, crafting a unique drum that is distinctly his own.

08.01.2022 A documentary about Drum Circles on Netflix? Yep. Coming this Christmas... You can see the official online premiere on Tuesday, December 1, 2020. I'm honored... to be a part of this. CHECK IT OUT WE ALL JUST NEED TO DRUM! https://weneedtodrum.com Created by Award-winning Director, John Pritchard Produced by ONE HEART MOVIES WE ALL JUST NEED TO DRUM! will be available on Netflix, Apple Movies, and Amazon Video for the Christmas holidays and the World Premiere will be at Lincoln Center as soon as it is safe to attend movie screenings in 2021. WE ALL JUST NEED TO DRUM! is the fourth ONE HEART MOVIES documentary film created by award-winning director, John Pritchard. The film is dedicated to the great Nigerian master drummer from the Yoruba tribe, Babatunde Olatunji, who deeply inspired the global drum circle movement that began in the mid 1990s. He famously said, When you give love, you get love back. Remember, it is in giving that we--what? Receive! And that’s what Baba was all about... love and the healing power of the drum! WE ALL JUST NEED TO DRUM! is all about encouraging the entire world to use drumming as a healing tool to increase joy, reduce stress, and deepen our connection with one another. Group drumming currently takes place in over 10,000+ drum circles around the planet every month. With your help, John's five year goal is to make that a million drum circles by December 2025. The whole world needs to come together and start drumming! Health note: Group drumming can happen outside during the pandemic with people wearing masks and social distancing or simply playing together on a Zoom call where each person takes their turn leading the group with their own drum rhythm. The inspiration for the movie came from the introduction to John’s 2019 movie, RESPECT FOR ALL, where Drum Circle Facilitator, Otha Day, joyfully expresses that, "We all just need to drum! Why do we all need to drum? What does drumming offer that makes it such a great solution for the problems of the 21st century? The simple answer: harmony. Harmony is the by-product of drumming with a group, as well as drumming by oneself. Drumming has always been part of every human culture since the beginning of time. Drumming together in a drum circle produces greater harmony within our body, mind and spirit. It is something everyone can do and it's also a lot of fun! The movie features over 30 interviews that include renowned father of the modern drum circle movement, Arthur Hull, and 10 of his Village Music Circle (VMC) Global Trainers: Simon Faulkner (AUSTRALIA), Kumi Masunaga (HONG KONG), Roberto Narain (INDIA), Vasundhara Das (INDIA), Alan Bruni (USA), Tomoko Tomtom Yokota (JAPAN), John Fitzgerald (USA) Mary Tolena (USA), Mike Deaton (USA), and Jim Boneau (USA). Additional interviewees include Jim Donovan, Sule Greg Wilson, Zorina Wolf, Scott Swimmer, Serina Payan Hazelwood, Greg Whitt, Diana Wallace, Summer Lall, Chris Ramirez, Malia Durbano, Rosario Carelli, Aimee Galinus, Daniel Cohen, Satya Ferreira, Brian Colbert, Jim Markham, and Dr. Adam Bowling. Special guest appearances are made by Micmac/Mohawk Elder, Ken Little Hawk, and Associate Producer, Ron Mercier. John Pritchard
