25.01.2022 Irises comprise of a variety of different species with many hybrids that can be grown in many parts of the garden. They produce flowers in all colours with many stunning combinations having gorgeous displays in Spring and Summer. Irises all have 6 petals, 3 upright and 3 downwards curving, which can be bearded, beardless or with crests. They prefer full sun but can handle a partially shaded position. Irises can flower from late Winter to late Summer, depending on the spec...ies. Dutch Iris pictured here are becoming evermore popular, due to the fact they are easy to grow with very low maintenance. They can be left in the ground for continual year after year flowering. 21.01.2022 Philodendron 'Birkin' has stunning glossy green leaves that as the plant matures will develop a stripe or variegated look. This easy to care for plant can adapt to all kinds of conditions (as long as its warm), making it a popular indoor plant. The Philodendron Birkin doesn't require a lot of watering. Allow the top layer of soil to dry between watering. Position in bright, indirect sunlight to help incourage the leaf to develop the variegating. Mist regularly, and wipe... the leaves with a damp cloth to keep the foliage looking shiny and fresh. These guys are a 'self-heading' Philodendron variety. This means it has leaves that are spaced so closely on the stem that the internodes aren't visible until they are much older or until of the lower leaves begin to naturally fall off. This makes it unique from most other Philodendrons which are distinctly vine-like. These varieties make awesome indoor plants due to their abundance of beautiful foliage and stiff stems which allow them to remain upright for a number of years, unlike vining types which require a support to remain upright. These plants develop a good root system, so they don't need too much water. As lavender plants age, bushes can become woody. The ribbed,stems have a dense covering of gold to silver spikes. This makes them look soft, and hairy like a monkeys tail. The stems will grow upright at first, then, as they mature they will become pendent.... The flowers are a bright, red and can grow up to 5cm across. They open along the stems in the warmer months. Each blooms lasts for three or more days. Indoors grow in a bright light position. In pots they also grow well in full sun to part shade in cool to sub tropical zones. 05.01.2022 Blossom End Rot Begins with a brown or yellow discolouration. As the rot progresses, the fruit will appear sunken and black. Eventually, it can cover the entire bottom half of the fruit. Although it looks like it is caused by fungus or pests, blossom end rot is caused by a calcium deficiency in the soil, aggravated by uneven watering and/or excess nitrogen. It usually occurs on just a small number of fruit, especially at the beginning of the harvest season. ... Prevent it by adding Richgro Dolomite Lime to the soil before planting, and providing sufficient water and mulch to plants to keep soil moist throughout the growing season.

01.01.2022 The City of Cockburn are running the first free commercial food waste trial in Western Australia. The trial will see food waste turned into high quality biofertiliser. The trial is a partnership with Richgro, with the food waste being delivered for processing to our anaerobic digestion plant in Jandakot WA to help produce high-quality biofertiliser. Excess electricity via methane capture from the plant, is then fed back into the grid....
