25.01.2022 When commissioning a photographer for your books cover photo, its so important to brief them well regarding the background of your photo. It needs to be unfussy enough that you are able to lay text (title, subtitle and author name) over the top and have that text be clearly seen. On the cover of this gorgeous book, which is Canna Campbells forthcoming second book (published by Viking/Penguin), you can see how the background is fairly light and distraction-free, allowin...g the text to do its work. Youll also need to consider whether or not YOU appear on your books cover photo. There are a lot of factors that play into that decision, and its best to receive expert guidance! 24.01.2022 I was going through some old photos before (in prep for a photoshoot later this year), and I thought Id share this one with you. Oh, and today is #throwbackthursday. Its a pic from my first business photoshoot waaaaay back in 2010. Most of the shots were taken indoors, but I made sure to grab a few outdoor ones, too. Im so glad that I did. My publisher later used this particular shot on the back cover of my cookbook , ! We liked that it... continued the garden theme of the book. I also love this photo because it features my favourite necklace at the time, which Id recently purchased in Finland. I think I wore that thing everywhere. Gosh, hasnt 10 years flown by? 24.01.2022 I am SO blessed to work with incredible women who are changing the world with their books this week, I joined @JoanneLynam to plan the birth of HER book. Jo is a powerful disability advocate, and her story is incredible! Oh, and can you tell from the photo that she LOVES colour?! (I added a pop of colour in the form of a pink Moroccan teacup .) This book is going to CHANGE LIVES!

23.01.2022 Yesterday I had the honour of spending the day with client Jennifer Ironside, planning the marketing for her forthcoming book called Real Women, Real Stories. Ideas were flowing, dark chocolate was being consumed and, by the end, Jens head was spinning... (in a good way ). We cant wait to get her amazing book into the hands of the women who are meant to read it . Marketing a book is always a big job, but its a lot of fun, too!

23.01.2022 Yesterday I left my office (shocking, I know!) and headed out on a field trip to Brisbane with my business bestie, Heidi Lou Design. We sashayed our way into verrrry comfortable seats at Event Cinemas Chermside and spent a couple of hours soaking up business inspiration and wisdom from the chillpreneur queen, Denise DT. Denise shared golden nuggets from her Chillpreneur book, which basically tells us all to stop DOING so darn much in our businesses instead, look for the e...asiest way to do something. Thats not a lazy approach; its just strategic and efficient, and its way less stressful than overcomplicating everything. One of my favourite takeaways from the event? Its this its time for female business owners to step up. The world needs us to start generating the kind of wealth that makes a real difference to the lives of others, and to the planet. Our grand-daughters will thank us for growing our businesses (in a sustainable yet powerful way that doesnt lead to burnout, illness and neglected kiddos), and when we do this we are also honouring our female ancestors, who didnt have the same opportunities that we are SO fortunate to have. 16.01.2022 While having lunch today, I watched this interview with Tony Wheeler, one of the founders of Lonely Planet. I feel so, so proud to have worked for that amazing company, first as an in-house editor (working on travel guides, restaurant guides and world food guides talk about a dream job!), and then as a freelance editor for many years. The companys beginnings, evolution and impact on the world are so inspiring. I LOVED working there!

04.01.2022 On my birthday yesterday I took a wee break to sit on our terrace, enjoy the sunshine and FINALLY start reading a book I was given for Christmas. Yes, Christmas. Am I the only person who waits for the perfect moment to savour something special?! It was worth the wait. What a gorgeous book. I am in love with the beautiful classic-yet-cute design, the quality of the stock (paper) and the sumptuous photography. I also didnt realise what a gifted storyteller Reese is, although I... should have known, given the quality of her production companys films. I love that she cherishes her southern heritage, and that her fun-loving, sweet personality oozes from every page I think Id quite like her to be my new best friend. If you dont have a copy of this book, head to a bookshop and flip through it. It will inspire you to make your next book so gosh-darn pretty and engaging that itll knock your readers socks off. 03.01.2022 Its arrived! My hard copy of Chillpreneur is now making itself comfortable on my bedside table. Ive been listening to the audiobook version, but I do love holding a real book you, too? Denise has done a FAB job with this book if youre an aspiring author, youll want to check it out to see how adept Denise is at creating connection with her readers (connection is SO important). I also love that she shares a heap of her own stories and those of her clients to ill...ustrate points (theres another tip use stories as often as you can in your book to show, not tell). This book might just be the start of the tipping point for womens equality. As women in business, if we can shift our mindsets to start letting go of the need to do EVERYTHING for EVERYONE, women everywhere will rise. Wed also be a little more chilled, thats for sure. Im only three-quarters of the way through the book, but already I feel freshly inspired to upgrade my business systems and take on even more help. This is not only great for me and provides empowering role modelling for my daughters and other women, it also shares the wealth. Girl power! Every female entrepreneur needs a copy of this book. 01.01.2022 Yep, it’s easy to take a photo of a printed book. ANYONE can do that. But an ebook? . However, I’m always up for a challenge, so here’s my attempt at it! In these photos (taken by hubby, AKA Dashing Darren ) I’m enjoying the sunshine in beautiful Queens Park, scrolling through the fabulous ebook version of @jenniferironside’s , book.... We published the print version in May this year, and are releasing the ebook version NOW, in plenty of time for Christmas . There are so many benefits to publishing an ebook not everyone likes to fill their homes with printed book (minimalists, I see you ) and just think of the trees that are saved. Oh, and ebooks are perfect for holiday/vacation reading. You can fit HEAPS of them on your iPad or phone. Also, many people ‘double dip’ and buy the printed version of a book after reading the ebook (or listening to the audiobook). This is a great way of further exposing and amplifying your brand.
