25.01.2022 Judging by the number of motorists who failed to slow down, this rule seems to have been forgotten. Thank you to those that did the proper and safe thing. On ...lower speed roads (with a speed limit of 80km/h or less - this is 98% of the Blue Mountains), motorists will continue to be required to slow to 40km/h when passing stationary tow trucks, breakdown assistance or emergency vehicles displaying flashing lights. The rule applies to help protect those who protect us. All motorists must also give way to any person on foot in the vicinity of a stationary tow truck, breakdown assistance or emergency vehicle displaying flashing lights. Motorists must not increase their speed until they are a sufficient distance past all the vehicles and people involved. The rule does not apply when a stationary tow truck, breakdown assistance or emergency vehicle displaying flashing lights is on the opposite side of a divided road separated by a median strip. https://roadsafety.transport.nsw.gov.au//slow-d/index.html

21.01.2022 HEATWAVE ALERT: Native animals are well adapted to Australian summer weather but they can still suffer during heatwaves. Here are some practical things you can ...do to assist our wildlife over the coming days: - Put clean, cool water out for wildlife in shady places. https://www.wires.org.au//wildlife-fact/water-for-wildlife - Keep a box in your vehicle with a cotton pillowcase and a shallow dish and water bottle to fill the dish with cool water. Please always offer wildlife water in a shallow bowl to lap as needed rather than pouring especially from above. - If you find an animal suffering heat stress and it is safe to do so please take to the nearest vet immediately and handle as little as possible. - Flying-fox colonies can be impacted by heat. Please remember to NEVER touch a bat. If you see a bat of flying-fox on the ground or low to the ground please do not approach but provide shade gently mist intermittently and call WIRES 1300 094 737. 10.01.2022 Minnehaha Falls (or Minni-Ha-Ha Falls) in Katoomba is a great short walk, although steep at a few spots, that gives both awesome views of the falls from a dista...nce, and a stunning pool at the base of the falls. Was nice to revisit this spot as it has been quite a while since I was last here. It has become quite a popular place to go during the hot summer days, and I personally try to avoid crowds when exploring the mountains. Pros and cons of social media I guess. But there is always somewhere less travelled to explore up here and that is what I shall continue to do!
