25.01.2022 while we offer an affordable service to the Margaret River local community; we sometimes do need to go out onsite to sort out IT issues and support - not only is this time; but it is also a cost in regards to transportation. we have created zones for those living a little further out - we'll factor in some call-out fees as applicable. of course; the best service is drop-off where we will continue to keep the prices down as low as possible. let us know what you need help with and we will get you sorted!

24.01.2022 100 iLIDs.. changing batteries and testing them for redeployment into the store.. unfortunately a lot of them have served their purpose.. almost 30% of them cannot be resuscitated ;(

24.01.2022 keeping the locals happy - it's what we do! :)

24.01.2022 looking for Apple parts and accessories? we have collected all the spare Apple parts and accessories we have collected over the years.. plenty of magsafe (both versions, including adaptors) for MacBook and MacBook Pro laptop's, various chargers for iPhone and iPod and a few lighting connectors (CAT5, VGA and HDMI).. while we do not normally sell hardware, you can see the surplus we have.. contact us if you are in need of anything and we may be able to help out.

23.01.2022 GOT KIDS? NEED A LAPTOP? CHROME BOOK? with the governments decision to move all WA schools to home-schooling; there has been a panic buy for laptops making them a scarce commodity - if you haven't got one yet, chances are, you wont be able to buy one for a while. THERE IS A SOLUTION! DON'T DISPAIR - CONTACT US!!... if you've got an older laptop (Windows or Mac) lying around - chances are it wont support the latest operating systems (Windows 10, or Mac OSX 10.11+), however it may support ChromeOS - a laptop type device sold as a "Cromebook". alternatively; the latest Raspberry Pi (3, 3B, 4B) can also be setup to run ChromeOS - you can hook one of these up to a keyboard, mouse and any sized TV and you'll have a computer.

21.01.2022 just finished working on a desktop application for an local company that builds a battery management solution - was a fun little project; looking forward to whats next with this client. the goal was to replace the hardware configurator with a software one customers could use their own laptops (cheaper). i ended up choosing Java as the tool for the job; for cross-platform (Windows, MacOSX, Linux) utilizing a serial connection talking to a PICAXE micro controller.. it has been so long since i've written anything in Java code (almost twenty years) and it was pleasing to see that the developer kit has evolved quite nicely.

20.01.2022 JUST APPLIED FOR A SMALL COVID-19 GRANT not sure if the shire will bite; but i may have spots for fifteen (15) people to run an introduction to electronics/arduino and the internet of things - where you will get a kit + participate via online resources where i will teach you about electronics and you'll play with the hardware! send me expressions of interest, 15 spots if grant is approved.

20.01.2022 super simple stuff - we can help you out! get a domain, email and website up in a few minutes - then use social media (facebook/instagram) to reach out to your local community. we can help you get setup; much like we've setup for a few locals - contact us if interested. https://www.facebook.com/River-Vines-1140717356129167/

20.01.2022 busy working on a telematics solution for a client in Sweden :) little chilly up here now, soon it will be snowing and this system needs to be capable of dealing with extreme weather conditions.. IP67 minimum - meaning snow, water and heat. what is it? it is the brain (central) component of a grander scale of communications and sensory equipment that will be deployed for ground service handling at Arlanda airport.. industrial grade electronics that once started off using off the shelf Arduino hardware.. when complete, it will communicate securely to the cloud using RIoT Secure AB technology :)

19.01.2022 servicing Margaret River and the surrounding regions for the best price, value for money and friendly service/advice, forget about paying through the nose for IT problems. good old local prices for locals - bringing back the friendly and help others part of a community vibe. you only need to check our reviews; glad to be giving back to the community. we guarantee you wont find a better price elsewhere - we do everything from computer cleanups, malware removal, OS upgrades (mac, pc and linux) through to data recovery and general IT advice!

18.01.2022 $275 laptop using a raspberry pi :) was a black friday special, half price.. I picked up two of them for fun.. everything was ok except that the SD card provided was corrupt and it wouldn't boot.. thankfully I know rPi very well and sorted it quickly.

17.01.2022 200 new iButton tags for the district club :)

17.01.2022 discussions of a pilot (IoT project) here start today

17.01.2022 nothing like replacing batteries :)

17.01.2022 MACOSX MALWARE IS EXTREMELY RARE - BEWARE OF TARMAC Dubbed Tarmac by its finders at New York ad-integrity firm Confiant, the malware is actually a companion to Shlayer, a prolific piece of Mac malware discovered and disclosed by Confiant earlier this year. Both pieces of malware are distributed by malicious online ads that lure Mac users into downloading and installing bogus Adobe Flash Player software as the first step in a multilayered infection process. ... Hidden inside that bogus Adobe software is Shlayer, a "downloader" whose job it is to first establish a beachhead on a system and then download more malicious software. https://www.tomsguide.com//macs-targeted-by-tarmac-malware

17.01.2022 that moment when a reinstall maybe better ;) I normally see a few dozen (normally the same stuff) but this case is out there.. no wonder why nothing works - it was a mission to even install scanners. #malware #slowcomputer #itdoctor

16.01.2022 mmm.. looks like the switch blew.. easy fix.. will definitely be recommending a surge protector for this client, the on/off switch is useless for a security camera system - a quick and easy fix..

14.01.2022 COMMUNITY FREEBIE are you using outlook with a gmail account and suddenly everything has stopped working / keeps asking for a password to access your email? google has been slowly ramping up the security of their email system by rolling out mandatory two-factor authentication on gmail accounts - which requires a few pesky steps to be performed to get your emails back on track and working again. they call this "App Passwords"; if your device isn't part of their trust network -... you will need to made these small changes. if you are affected by this and do not feel confident to perform it; do not hesitate to contact us at RIoT International Pty Ltd and we can make the necessary changes for you in a jiffy :) we guarantee you wont get it cheaper anywhere else - just ask our clients. https://support.google.com/mail/answer/185833?hl=en

14.01.2022 revision #2 - boxed and ready to go a custom Atmel mega2560 (Arduino compatible) board with four hardware serials utilising MAX3232 (serial communication), RTC, accelerometer and gyroscope with 16 GPIOs (analogue/digital).. has had some serious modification to be ruggedized - protected against reverse polarity, spikes and voltage tolerances.. this baby will replace the Arduino Mega 2560 currently deployed in the telematics solution for SAS ground service handling as part of ...the evolution of the telematics equipment. this board is responsible for receiving data from multiple RS232 based components, performing geo-fence location/boundary processing and vehicle movement/collision detection #whoneedsmhz

11.01.2022 quick call out to Jarvis Estate to renew their SSL certificate for their website, why not combine work with pleasure and drop by Coloniel Brewery on the way back.. have to definitely check out the new #limechello from #jarvisestate

11.01.2022 yep; we do more than IT servicing. a few people have queried about learning to code and working with hardware - since i've got a history of teaching university students how to code (5+ years) it is something even some locals may be interested in.. can do one-on-one or even organise group sessions, exploring the idea, but let me know if interested.

09.01.2022 how to turn a 2011 MacBook Pro into something to give the latest ones a run for their money.. SSD and RAM upgrade for a client in Margaret River.. why spend $2500+ on a new computer when you can upgrade what you have for a fraction of the price!! the MacBook Pro will be perfect for school! to be called the "super big mac" :)

09.01.2022 smashed through a lot of iLIDs.. beer well deserved?

05.01.2022 with school scheduled to return within two weeks - now is the time to ensure that the tools your children will use in their education are up-to-par and running at their best. book your computers in for service before the term starts - simply contact us on 0432348856.

05.01.2022 my new magnification unit came.. that's a 55" TV showing a TSSOP IC on the PCB board. amazing magnification so I can the fiddly soldering that I may have to do over the upcoming months.

05.01.2022 ask the on-site electrician to do one simple job.. connect the RFID unit to vehicle power and to the RS232 cable which wil be connected to the brain board we designed and manufactured. wire black to GND on both cables, wire brown (RX) on RS232 to green (TX) on RFID and red on the RFID to 12V to power the unit... I didn't mention red (TX) on the RS232 cable at all.. since we technically never send data to RFID. somehow, he wires red (TX) on the RS232 cable to 12V.. no wonder w...hy the MAX3232 was going bonkers.. two hours later, after verifying outside of vehicle and reinstalling twice - I decided to check what should never have happened.. snip the red (TX) on RS232 cable - and everything works.. MORAL OF STORY: want something done right? do it yourself.. 100%

04.01.2022 been burning the candle at both ends for this one... finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel - this is the industrial IoT board for tracking and vehicle diagnostics we are building for the airline industry for GreatSway Enterprises.. it has an Arduino MKR for secure lifecycle management using RIoT Secure AB technology, which allows us to remotely perform firmware over the air (FOTA) of the two independent Atmega2560 micro controllers doing all the work.. high accur...ate GPS with dead reckoning and has a bunch of relays for driving things, optocouplers for digital inputs and is built to survive the most stupid of electricians when it comes to wiring :) the brains on the underside, the interface and pretty stuff on the top. with the click of a mouse, can change what the device does from around the world ;) it is so awesome to see running.

04.01.2022 i keep getting asked for a business card/flyer specific to the local IT services i do in the region; so why not take the change to make and order some :) seeing i've been creating business cards and flyers for a number of people - why not do some for myself *g* contact me if you need anything like this done i think they look pretty spiffy :P $54 for 1000 - cheap! :P

04.01.2022 we also can code php :) sorting out some WordPress issues that seemed to have found their way into the WooCommerce plugin that was causing havok for Jarvis Estate :) seems the developers updated the underlying objects without doing a complete test before rolling out a new version.. surely not a job for the typical "web designer".. when the default template driven websites don't work and you need a real expert.. we can help you out.

04.01.2022 battery changing time again :) yay! have a great system in place to dismantle, replace the batteries and reassemble the iLIDs for the local hardware store ;) have to have the right tools for the job tho - such a pity there is a end of life (battery life) for such an interesting product that uses radio frequencies for updating the messages shown to customers.. approx 8 years apparently ;)

04.01.2022 super affordable MacBook Pro upgrade.. slow and clunky HDD to super quick SSD and a RAM boost from 4gb to 8gb.. you would swear it wasn't the same machine.. we order the parts (you pay) and get then at cost price, then we clone your HDD to the SSD and do the hardware swap for a super cheap $75. the best $327.90 spent to revive a slow machine..

03.01.2022 nothing beats the satisfaction of implementing a J1939 CAN BUS stack from scratch on Arduino, with dodgy documentation and incomplete resources. it is great to see the inner workings of the CAN BUS when processing a 150mb file that represents 15 minutes of a CAN BUS dump - tonnes of useful information that can be utilise in the data stream, now we know we can obtain it :)

02.01.2022 finally a use for Vegemite? https://boingboing.net/2018/12/08/insulating-bread.html
