23.01.2022 Culture is central to a child’s individuality, identity and sense of belonging and success in lifelong learning. To support the identity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and to enhance the knowledge of non-Indigenous children we at Rise pay our respects to the Kombumerri Aboriginal community. We build upon the children’s understandings of diversity, specifically Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures with Miss Billie who visits the centre and ...teaches her culture to us all. This week we were even more fortunate to visit the beach for our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander lessons. Miss Billie taught us about the dolphins and their importance in their culture. In our community the dolphin is called Gowanda. The children learnt to do the call of the dolphin, they did this by banging sticks on ocean edge causing vibrations to ask the dolphins to come to the waters edge. We listened to a Dream time story about Gowanda whilst sitting in a circle and they dug holes and placed bark in the holes in the sand. We learnt that the aboriginal people did this when they lived by the sea to keep dry and warm. We finished with traditional dancing to thank Mother Earth for allowing us to have a wonderful experience at the beach this week. #therisedifference See more

22.01.2022 Thank you to all the families and staff who helped put this hamper together for Emma Bauer and her baby girl soon to arrive. It brought tears to Emma’s eyes yesterday when we presented it to her.
21.01.2022 Sink or float Can you make an egg float in water? In this simple science experiment, we take just a few minutes to test the laws of density and discover just how easy it is to make an egg float! Salt water verses fresh water.... The children helped as we set up the experiment, then we made our predictions. In the fresh water would it sink or float? Some said sink some said float.. it sank Into the salt water again we predicted and again we were divided .. well it kind of floated..we added more salt and they rose to the top to float.
20.01.2022 Today we came together as a community to raise money for Sids and Kids. We had a great day dressed in red, dancing up a storm at our red disco and a sausage sizzle for lunch. We exceeded our target of $50. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this great cause.

13.01.2022 The children watched and engaged in the Ditto’s Keep Safe Adventure Show stars Bravehearts’ lovable lion cub Ditto. This was a fun, interactive live show teaching the children essential personal safety skills and knowledge using age-appropriate language, song, and dance. What did the children learn? * Differentiating ‘yes’ and ‘no’ feelings ... * Recognising the bodies ‘warning signs’ * Body ownership * Helping children identify language and feelings associated with secrets * Reinforcing that there is no secret that children cannot tell someone * What to do if you feel unsafe or unsure The aim is to teach children these essential principals through songs such as ‘Run and Tell (someone you can trust)’ and ‘Private Parts (they belong to me)’. Children also learn ‘Ditto’s 3 Rules’, which are: * We all have the right to feel safe with people. * It’s ok to say NO if you feel unsafe or unsure. * Nothing is so yucky that you can’t tell someone about it. Bravehearts is the leader in personal safety education in Australia. Children can begin learning valuable personal safety education lessons from as young as 2-3 years old. Providing age-appropriate information around body ownership and the right to be safe from an early age allows for these messages to become part of the child’s everyday language and helps to build self-esteem and resilience in children. Empowering children with personal safety skills is only one part of providing a child-safe environment for the children at Rise! #therisedifference

10.01.2022 School visit A group of Kindergarten children went for a visit to Surfers Paradise State School today. We were welcomed by the Deputy Principal before making our way to the library for story time. The children at the school are learning about the ocean this week so we were able to share our knowledge of the ocean from what we remembered from our science learning last week. Mrs B from the library was very impressed. Our Kindergarten children displayed respect as they engaged ...in the story time and art session and then got to showcase their letter knowledge when Mrs B asked them to stand on the mat area that held the first letter of their names. A huge thank you to the parents that came along to support our excursion.

08.01.2022 Friendship day! Today, celebrate the International Day of Friendship (UN). It is a day that promotes the importance and roles that friendship play in promoting peace in many cultures. It's a day for celebrating friendship regardless of race, colour or religion. It is also intended to support the culture of peace and non-violence for the children of the world. A day without a friend is like a pot without a single drop of honey left inside. Winnie the Pooh Happy Friendship day!
08.01.2022 And the winner of our annual Educator Day bake-off is Michelle Churchouse. Our celebrity chef couldn’t put it down. She finished the whole thing.
08.01.2022 Have you read our latest blog? Nursery rhymes and children songs are a great way of interacting with and connecting with young children. They are usually short and easy to learn, with simple tunes and words. When you talk to other children and families you will hear different versions of your favourite songs, with extra verses, different actions and sometimes even different characters! https://www.riseearlylearning.com.au//nursery-rhymes-how-/

01.01.2022 The children had the opportunity to celebrate the Hindu festival Diwali; we are very fortunate to have families in our centre that are of this culture and helped us to understand and add activities into our program. The children painted clay pots with bright coloured paints and glitter. The children decorated these clay pots to celebrate the Indian New Year, Diwali.
01.01.2022 Our Toddler class have been learning about items that sink or float as part of science week. They have been choosing items from the classroom and bringing them to the water trough to classify whether they sink or float. We now know that ping pong balls float but blocks sink. Who would of guessed! #therisedifference
