23.01.2022 Last Sunday we did bird pose to work on our balance and coordination, this time focusing on how to hold the pose for longer. We worked on the bridge pose, with and without yoga block to squeeze against our thighs in order to work on our spine and leg muscles. We also learned Simhasana (lion pose) which is a great pose to let out suppressed emotions (FYI for the yogis that are future singers, apparently this asana also enhances vocal cords!) We did 2 sets of surya namaskar an...d this time I watched them, correctly their postures in between. We practiced Bhramari pranayam one more time followed by Om chanting. They did short guided meditation focusing on breaths, rotation of consciousness and gayatri mantra. We are all looking forward to play a yoga game based on all the animal poses we have been learning this term!

21.01.2022 Today we learned twisted cobra, grasshopper and lizard animal poses. We did 3 sets of Surya namaskar and the last set was done along with shloka so we knew exactly how long to take for each pose of surya namaskar. I am so proud of how efficiently each and everyone of us has adapted to this practice! We did Om chanting, this time focusing on equal duration of Aa, U and M sound vibrations so that our last sound doesn’t end up being too short. ... I explained meaning of shloka ‘Tvamev mata’ and we all practiced singing it while thinking of whoever we believe in. We will be repeating this shloka and memorising before we move onto next one. I introduced them to ‘Bhramari’ pranayam which we will practice more this term. Humming sound vibrations of this practice works on calming the nerves and soothes them especially around the brain. It’s one of the best breathing exercise to free mind of frustration and anger. We all shared the laughter when our humming sound came out as OM sound we had just practiced before the pranayam!

11.01.2022 Hi folks Here is all the detail you need of kids yoga sessions of the term, starting 18th April 2021 for ages 8 to 12. What: 75 minutes of sessions structured around Surya Namaskar, Yoga asanas, yoga games, Om/shloka chanting and breathing practices (pranayam)/meditation. ... Why Yoga for kids: The yoga practice not only helps to keep the young ones strong and supple, but also incorporate mental activities, disciplines that help to develop attention and concentration, and stimulate the creative abilities that are latent within the child. The yoga practice creates a balance in the personality- Physical aspect, Emotional aspect, Mental aspect and Creative aspect. Did you know? Although benefits of yoga and meditations are immeasurable unlike academics and other skills, the biggest advantage of exposing your child to yoga and meditation is that it gives them tools for life. Meditation allows the children to relax and discover the centre of their being. Breathing exercises and meditation enables children to be fully present and relaxed, helping them to solve personal and interpersonal conflicts through contact with inner wisdom, and lead him/her towards confident and responsible adulthood. When: Sundays 4 pm I can be reached at 0424990025 for registration or further info.

11.01.2022 Last Sunday I spoke to yoga students about concept of gratitude while children were meditating in ‘legs up the wall’ pose (Viparita karani is an excellent pose for relaxation and blood circulation). Expressing gratitude goes beyond teaching children to say ‘thank you’. When we acknowledge small comforts and experiences in our lives we learn to be grateful and appreciative of little things, which at the same time gives us positive energy. ... Gratitude has a crucial role to play to our happiness and overall well-being. As parents we all want our children to be successful grown ups, I strongly believe success should be measured in terms of being content and happy

06.01.2022 Today we did eagle pose to work on our balance and coordination. While it was difficult for most of us to maintain balance in this pose, with practice we will surprise ourselves in the coming weeks. We did snake pose and felt the stretch on our arms, back and shoulders. We tried flapping fish pose as a relaxation pose and we all agreed on how relaxing it felt in that asana! ... We did sun salutation following rituals of our sessions. We played a yoga game called ‘like it, love it or leave it’ (more variations added for ‘hate it’ and ‘not sure’ poses as suggested by the students). It’s amazing how yoga game transforms as kids come up with variations to add to these games. We worked on ‘tvamev mata’ one last time. We ended our session with Om chanting and short guided meditation.
