24.01.2022 First Ever Rivals Netball Dresses . If you asked me 2 years ago what sport I would be coaching. Never in a million years would I have said netball. . Now we have our own team with amazing girls to represent all the hard work and time myself and others have put in to make this happen.... . Only a select few will get to put on the red, black and white . Because its not just a dress and its not just a netball team . Being a Rival means more than you think and wearing our dress isnt something to take for granted . As a Rival, you are to compete against yourself. Consistently striving to improve yourself mentally and physically to a point where you are proud of how far you came and who you are as a person. Striving to become happier and stronger. We dont settle for less than what we are worth. You are your own Rival. The red symbol in our logo was inspired by the Chinese symbol for STRENGTH. From there you've done nothing but impress me & everyone. . When we first met, I saw this quiet, shy, smiley & happy girl. You told me your goals. Mobility is our secret to sport performance & treatmenting/rehabilitating injuries that stem from movement issues... . Youll be surprised how much mobility/flexibility has an impact on strength, movement & physical performance in the gym & in sport . Our members & athletes have 15-30 minutes of mobility prior to commencing their programs. . We must expose our bodies to the proper movements, trigger pointing & stretches to restore movement that we are built to do as humans. The human body is designed to work perfectly without pain. 20.01.2022 My Story & My Family . If you didn't know, my entire life from 3 years old until I was 19 was dedicated to rugby. My family was the backbone of my dream. My family is the reason I got every opportunity to become who I am today. . My dream at 14 years old was to play professional rugby in Australia. ... 3 years ago this month was the last time I would ever play rugby. . Saying that, unfortunately I didn't know that would be my last game. Later that month after my last game, I sustained a career ending injury. To which it basically made me physically unable to move, walk, stand & sit for a while. From training & playing rugby 9+ hours a week to abruptly having to lay in bed 24/7 for months. . It took a toll on my mental health. I lost who I was, as I was in the darkest time of my life. The pressure grew on my shoulders. I couldn't accept that all of my hard work & time went all to waste. I told myself I would one day play again. But that day never came & probably still won't come. . That entire year after my injury, I didn't know who I was as a person. I believed that my entire value & worth had diminished. I couldn't accept it. . Looking back on this life changing event. I'm glad I went through that hell. Because it changed me as a person. My values & beliefs have all flipped. . As everyone knows now, I have a massive passion for supporting & training young athletes. I wouldn't be where I am today with all these amazing people around me if I didn't get injured & became depressed. From the hell I went through, it brought me the most fulfilling opportunity I could have ever imagined. . My goals changed once I found my new purpose in life. . Make sure all my athletes don't go through what I went through. Helping every young athlete I can, learn how to play the sport they love without pressure & with complete happiness. Positively change the way sports are perceived in our society. Inspire kids to grow as people & become role models. 19.01.2022 Balance & Knee Stability . If you struggle with knee pain while running, jumping, sprinting & any quick sporting movements; we need to look at your knee stability. . But what contributes to knee stability???... . So, the knee joint can only move in one plane (meaning it can only bend & extend). If you have poor knee stability we need to look at your foot/ankle & hip control. . As your foot/ankle & hip joints have more than one direction it can move . We must learn to strengthen the foot muscle & glute muscle in order to create a more stable knee . In this video, Nicole is performing a Banded External Ankle Good Mornings . The band is pulling the foot inwards to try to collapse the ankle in, which would collapse the knee in. So, Nicole had to really activate her foot muscle & glute muscle to ensure stability & that the knee does not collapse inwards . Ash is our Netball Specialist Coach for our Rivals Netball team & Rivals Elite Netball Program. She currently plays for the Bond University Bullsharks in the Sapphire & Ruby Series. She herself has achieved leaps & bounds in her own netball training. She has changed the way our netball athletes think & play. Getting results takes consistency and hard work. Deb has been able to continuously push herself each week for the past year. With first coming to join our team with a past severe L4-L5 disc herniation. . From not being able to hold a plank to now holding it for 90sec and thats just one exercise. To increase activation to a certain muscle while performing an exercise.... . How? It not only makes the exercise more difficult to perform. But it applies resistance in two directions. In this case the chest has to increase in activation to resist the arm being pulled by the band and to press the dumbbell up. . HOWEVER, this is an advanced exercise only given to those who are passed the beginner phase of training. 04.01.2022 Running Technique Correction Make sure you are running correctly. We always make sure to lift things from the ground safely to protect our backs. But running can put up to 2-3x your bodyweight of pressure on your joints & body. So we need to make sure we are running safely... Running Technique Breakdown: Right video: - short strides - little knee drive with each step - little glute activation - each landing foot strike lands in front of the body - body is slightly bent over Left video: - efficient stride length - good knee drive - good glute activation - landing foot strikes are landing under the body - body is more upright Why does this matter? 2 Main Reasons 1 Preventing injuries (proper running mechanics is easier on the body with less stress on joints & muscles) 2 Improve running performance (you can run faster & save energy to run more)
