24.01.2022 Young gun 296 this week is Barmera Primary’s 12 year old Sam Jericho. Sam played in the recent state Sapsasa Golf event in Adel finishing 12th in the country boys division, which qualified him to play in the last day championship. He then finished 24th in the state overall with a final round score of 102 net 65. Sam also represented Riverland earlier in the year at the state Sapsasa cricket carnival, performing well across the week. This was a great achievement as Sam comes f...rom a tennis family and doesn’t play local junior cricket. 22.01.2022 sorry bit late with this (lockdown memory loss) This morning we recognised number ‘297 young gun’ on radio 5rm sports show. this weeks young talent was a bit different to the norm, being involved in off road motor sport.... 15 year old Barmera’s Issac vander Woude (Boof) took part in last weeks The Bend motorsport complex fundraising charity race, where he drove the full international 7.7 km circuit in the 24 hour race. Boof drive 5 to 6 hours over the weekend and was the youngest driver taking part. Boof has also navigated, help bulid and repaired for his Dad, Darren (commando) in there V8 trophy truck since the age of 8, winning multiple times at Wynarka, Waikerie and Loveday off-road racing events and where joint winners of the state champs in their class in 2018. Boof plans to drive regularly at trials at Malala in 2021 to hone his skills. A different young gun this week, no balls required for this sport, but as commando said you need balls to do it!! 19.01.2022 young gun number 299 this week is Cobdogla primary schools 11 year old Judd Norman. Judd was the winner of the boys under 12 singles and doubles events at last weeks junior development tennis squad tournament held in Renmark. Judd has also been part of Cobdogla primary schools ANZ hot shots inter school carnival held at Memorial drive in Adelaide, where they have won back to back titles against Prince Alfred Collage. Judd also took out the Cobdogla TC Luke Saville award in 2...017/18. Judd also plays football for BMFC and soccer for the Barmera Pelicans and has represented his school across a number of sapsasa sports. With the Cobby tennis club producing a number of high class tennis players over a number of years and currently being coached by CTC stalwart Stinger Nettle, expect Judd to be a name to watch in the future.
