05.01.2022 Christmas at the Mortlock This year the magic of Christmas comes to the Mortlock, one of the most beautiful libraries in the world. There is something for every...one to see and discover, from the largest indoor Christmas tree in Adelaide, to fascinating and fun displays of all things Christmas from the Library’s collections. In a year of change, challenges and champions, 2020 has been tough for all. Together with the support of SA Power Networks we are bringing a little Christmas cheer by lighting up the tree in the majestic Mortlock. Why not come in and take a selfie in front of the tree and send it to loved ones who you may not be able to visit this Christmas. Our Christmas displays show how South Australians celebrated Christmas through the generations. See photographs from decades of our much-loved Christmas Pageant, cards, including one from Don Bradman, menus from Christmas dinners aboard ships, postcards sent home to family and friends by WWI soldiers, and more. Hear the sounds of Christmas music including songs by Patsy Biscoe. There are also beautiful books and toys from our Children’s Literature Research Collection on display. Open Monday to Saturday, 10am to 4pm until 4 January, and free to all. Photo: Toby Woolley #ChristmasattheMortlock
