22.01.2022 We are thrilled to announce our latest exhibition ‘Future U’, opening 23 July 2021. 'Future U' explores what it means to be human in the 21st century and beyond. The exhibition examines the increasingly urgent questions of what makes humans unique, and our place in the world in a time of accelerated technologies. Developments in artificial intelligence, robotics, and biotechnology are challenging deeply held beliefs and notions of what it is to be human. As machines reveal ...themselves to be capable of surpassing human capacity, the aspects that make us human must be reconsidered. We applaud technology for its ability to prolong our lives, and yet we also mistrust it and fear its capacity to take away our usefulness and unique abilities as humans. 'Future U' presents creative responses by local and international artists, designers, and researchers to the impacts of rapid technological change. Exhibition dates: 23 July 23 October 2021 Curators: Jonathan Duckworth and Evelyn Tsitas. Artists, designers and researchers: Bettina von Arnim (GER), Holly Block (AU), Karen Casey (AU), Duckworth Hullick Duo (AU), Peter Ellis (AU), Jake Elwes (UK), Alexi Freeman (AU), Libby Heaney (UK), Leah Heiss (AU), Pia Interlandi (AU), Amy Karle (US), Mario Klingemann (GER), Zhuying Li (CH), Christian Mio Loclair (GER), Maina-Miriam Munsky (GER), Patricia Piccinini (SL/ AU), Stelarc (AU), Uncanny Valley (AU), and Deborah Wargon (AU). RMIT Gallery would like to thank the Goethe-Institut for their support of this exhibition. Find out more by clicking on the link below:

15.01.2022 To our RMIT Gallery community, In line with recent Government advice, RMIT Gallery will be closed to the public until further notice. This decision is precautionary only. We will continue to take the advice of the relevant authorities and will confirm when we are able to recommence our regular program of exhibitions and events.... The temporary closure will immediately impact the upcoming photographic exhibition The Image Looks Back, which was due to open to the public on Friday 27 March. However, we plan to share the exhibition with you in many ways so you can experience it from home wherever you are in the world. In these uncertain times, please look after yourselves, and each other. We are connected by a love of art and ideas, and we look forward to staying connected with you through our online platforms. For RMIT’s response to coronavirus (COVID-19), please visit the RMIT website. All the best, the RMIT Gallery team Image credit: Tyler Payne, KIMSPO, moving collage installation, iPads, perspex, marine wire 2019.

01.01.2022 2020 has been an especially tough year for students who have had to trade in the on-campus experience for their computer screens at home. How do students find inspiration and cultivate their creative practices during this time? Watch the recording of ‘Finding Inspiration in 2020’ an online discussion held on 29 October 2020 as part of RMIT Gallery’s new online student-run exhibition, Museum of Me, showcasing the relationship between student work and cultural inspiration.
