24.01.2022 What is Sketchnoting? It's note-taking with visuals....... Clever, as it requires us to use more parts of our brain. Have a look at this youTube. It shows how powerful it can be when we combine words and visuals while note-taking.

23.01.2022 October is Mental Health Month. Different organisations have a focus for each year. Our focus at RNSHS is SELF COMPASSION.... Self Compassion simply involves being kind to yourself and treating yourself as you would treat a good friend. There’s just no point in being hard on yourself

22.01.2022 If there’s one thing the world needs now more than ever, it’s cheer. Today is a day which should do just that, as it is World Kindness Day! Kindness doesn’t need to be a grand gesture; the smallest act can have the greatest impact on someone’s life. One small, thoughtful gesture can change someone else's day...

21.01.2022 Every child has a cup that needs to be filled with affection, love, security and attention. Some seem to have a full cup most the time, or they know ways to get a refill. It's only natural for children to be unsettled from time to time when their cup gets near to empty, we just have to be there to support them. With a few simple steps we can create an environment where they feel more comfortable discussing their emotions from a young age.

The main aims of the program are to: Maintain a strong link between t...he student and their regular school Identify the wellbeing needs of each student to support their educational pathway Facilitate a positive transition to the student’s educational setting The program was designed incorporating the latest research from the field of Positive Psychology and helps to build positive mental health with hope for the future. 15.01.2022 Sending out a huge thank you to Vera, one of our lovely knitting community members who is photographed here with a blanket made from her squares. Another big thanks to Margaret who crocheted the blanket together.

12.01.2022 Deep Diaphragmatic Breathing Our newly launched initiative, HOPE (Hospital Outreach Program in Education), aims to increase wellbeing for all our students. We have had great success with our Coping unit which incorporates an evidence based deep diaphragmatic breathing technique. Studies have shown that diaphragmatic breathing reduces the stress cortisol in the body and as a result it reduces symptoms of stress and anxiety. Furthermore, the benefits have been linked to better focus and attention span as well as reducing chronic pain. By practicing such an effective technique we strive to empower our students to work towards overcoming life’s challenges.

09.01.2022 We are loving all of the amazing blankets that have been created by our wonderful knitting community.

04.01.2022 Why being curious is important to our well being. We often see that kids are curiosity personified. They ask questions, they decide to go and seek new things, they look at things from a new perspective. As we get older our curiosity tends to decline and with that sometimes our mental health. When you make a conscious decision to be more curious about your experiences, actions and feelings, you will naturally begin to stop resisting, judging, and criticising yourself. Studi...es have shown that if you practice exploring these moments with curiosity together with positive emotions the happier and more fulfilling your life will become. Curiosity is a strength people can wield, the best way to feed curiosity is to engage with new people, new places, and new points of view. What are you curious about and how can you find more about it?

02.01.2022 This heart-warming video of the picture book by Eoin Mclaughlin shows us that there are many ways to show you care while social distancing.
