21.01.2022 V for Vet! We are very lucky to have Luke Campbell on our team of professionals at Rob Hickmott Racing. Luke and Rob have worked alongside each other for 15 years, including at Macedon Lodge when Rob trained Melbourne Cup winners Green Moon and Almandin. Luke played a huge part in Almandins career after he sustained a tendon injury 2 years prior to his Cup victory. Rob and Luke sat down a few weeks ago and spoke about what a ride its been!

21.01.2022 Earlier this week we presented information on a package of horses put together for my Melbourne and Macedon mates. We have got another bundle of horses picked out for my family and friends in the North East. Further details coming soon! Stay tuned!

20.01.2022 It’s exciting to have some new horses join our team! If you are wondering if Rob will still be training at Caulfield the answer is yes! It is business as usual with the addition of another training site at Macedon (to complement our Ballarat and Romsey facilities).

20.01.2022 So close Little Caleb !!! Very impressive albeit 2nd! Just needed the line to come a few strides earlier!

19.01.2022 Rob Hickmott Racing is seeking experienced TRACK RIDERS to join our team. We can provide on site accommodation if required. Direct message on the RHR Facebook page or email [email protected] to apply or for more info!

18.01.2022 Rob has been busy inspecting yearlings ahead of this years @inglis_sales Melbourne Premier Sale. At Kulani Park in Nagambie Rob took a liking to this cracking filly (first photo) entered in the @inglis_sales Lot 310 Dundeel x Savethelastdance filly bred by @arrowfieldstud ... Rob then headed to Seymour to Yarran thoroughbreds, where he spotted this colt (second photo) also heading to the Inglis sale. Lot 757 Extreme Choice x Arnault Big thanks to Rhys & Chloe Smith at Kulani Park and John & Rachel Doherty from Yarran Thoroughbreds for presenting a fine selection of yearlings!

18.01.2022 Z for Zipping & Friends (Efficient, Almandin and Fawkner) Our Z for Zipping has been de-railed by the Pandemic! We were planning to announce a date Rob would be hosting a meet and greet at Living Legends but will have to postpone this until COVID restrictions ease. For now, enjoy these photos of Rob with his old mates who are now enjoying their retirement at Living Legends Zipping, Efficient, Almandin and Fawkner. If you havent already been there, do yourself a favour and pop in for a visit (when you can!). As well as the unique opportunity of meeting these super star horses, Living Legends is surrounded by Woodlands parks and gardens where you can visit wild kangaroos and beautiful native birds. There is also the Black Caviar Cafe where you can enjoy a sensational Devonshire Tea, Coffee & snacks. We highly recommend a visit!

17.01.2022 X for X Factor Owners and trainers are always looking for the special talent, ability or quality that makes one horse stand out from the rest the X Factor. I have been lucky enough to share the journey of some true champions and there is no feeling quite like it. There is the eXpectation as you watch them mature, the eXcitement when you first glimpse their emerging brilliance; and the sheer eXhilaration when you witness them putting it all together to fulfill their potentia...l. It really is like winning a footy grand final! The search for the next horse with the X Factor is what motivates and drives us. I cant wait to see if our stable stars Schabau and Django Freeman can utilise the "X Factor" they have shown signs of to achieve spring glory. They are currently thriving at Macedon Lodge, a world class training facility in the picturesque Macedon Ranges that definitely has the X Factor. Sit back and enjoy this vision of Schabau and Django enjoying their time at Macedon while you listen to my recent chat to Todd Blum on his Podcast The Trainers Hut. https://the-trainers-hut.simplecast.com//melbourne-cup-pat

14.01.2022 The Toronado’s are flying! Beltoro grew wings at Flemington yesterday to make it two wins from two starts. His stable mate, Vitesse Royale (Toronado x Lickety Lemon) is another Toronado who is progressing nicely and will be aiming to race in the new year. There are still places available in this leased filly either individually or within the RHR Ovens and Murray bundle. The bundle opportunity will be closing soon so if you are interested in experiencing the fun of being an owner contact us now.

13.01.2022 T FOR TEAM! It is a pleasure to introduce the awesome team at Rob Hickmott Racing and give them some well deserved formal recognition. Every one of them plays an important role in our business and their contributions are appreciated. Horse racing is a tough industry. Beyond the glamour and excitement of race day is the reality of constant fatigue from early mornings and physically demanding work. There are highs from successes, but the inevitable lows from issues and injuries... to both horses and humans! To make it in the industry, you need to be dedicated, resilient and above all passionate about horses. I would particularly like to thank my hard working Assistant Trainer Amir Gegic who is all of these things. Amir has been with me since I moved to Caulfield in 2018 and is the highly valued leader of the team. His attention to detail and work ethic is second to none. He has shown amazing resilience to overcome serious injuries from falls and cares for our horses like they are his own. Amir is capably supported by young gun Claira Chermside who helps manage the stable including all the administration and communications aspects with the help of our Admin wiz Brooke! Jacob Rule has recently moved into the racing manager role which he combines with riding trackwork, alongside Niamh Bergin and Jade Doyle. And we have a great group of stable hands including Roger, Baxter, Lucy, James, Deep, Pedro & Beau who rock up day in day out with a smile on their face (even though at the moment we may not be able to see it through masks! ). The team extends far and beyond our stable staff - We have great team of farriers, vets and chiropractors that contribute to our horses ongoing health and wellness as well as our awesome admin team who were introduced in A for Admin! Thank you for all your hard work Team Hickmott!

12.01.2022 The sun is out and Spring is definitely in the air at our Caulfield and Romsey stables! Racing.com #springracing

09.01.2022 Y for Yearlings Earlier this year both Rob and his father John Hickmott selected some exciting yearlings at the sales across Australia and we are happy to announce that we have put together a bundle of 6 horses (3 purchases and 3 leased) for some Robs Melbourne and Macedon mates to race (AKA - The Triple M Bundle!). There are still a few places available, so if you havent done so already, get your mates together and experience the fun of being an owner without having to dig too deep into your pockets! For further details on these horses, have a listen to Rob and his son Josh go in-depth about the confirmation and breeding of our now new 2 year olds.

07.01.2022 Do you want to be sitting here with Rob when we are COVID free?! GDay folks. We hope you have been enjoying the A-Z of Rob Hickmott Racing. 04.01.2022 Happy New Year! Before our focus moves to 2021, I would like to take this opportunity to thank our owners and all the team behind the scenes for their support throughout 2020. We are really looking forward to 2021 and have put in a lot of work over the past 12 months to set ourselves up for a big year. With the help of my team we have set up our own business administration, separating from the management services at Neerim Lodge purchased an exciting crop of yearlings who... are preparing to race in the new year acquired the use of Kerrygail Lodge at Romsey for spellers, pre-training, freshen ups and rehab focused on improving our communications both internally with owners and publicly via social media. 2020 has been a hard slog for everyone and I am grateful to my team for toughing it out through this challenging year. Working in the racing industry is all consuming at the best of times, requiring long, unsociable hours which are usually rewarded by the fun of race days and excitement of the celebrations that follow. COVID has sucked the life out of a lot of our fun, but we hope that 2021 can make up for it! Let’s hope we can kick start the new year with a great run from Highland Jakk in Race 7 at Flemington today. See more
