24.01.2022 Yesterday, I unrolled some cheap paper from a roll, stuck it with masking tape onto a plastic sheet, grabbed out my acrylic paints, crayons, brushes and water jar, found some music to play, set my timer to 10 minutes, and had some fun. The timer went off, so I silenced it and kept on for another 15 or so. The exercise was to loosen up, explore mark-making, colour and composition, and to enjoy the process. This has served its purpose, and can now be thrown in the bin. After some photo evidence.

24.01.2022 I am still three days behind, and this one took me a while to complete.

24.01.2022 Three more daily sketches for April challenge.

23.01.2022 #inktober2020 day 5: Blade Ink washes with gold acrylic in isolated places.

23.01.2022 Day 5 of the Isolation Art Challenge: Gift Water-soluble oil on paper. The most precious gifts are often the ones we take for granted. A simple walk in the park is a gift I enjoy every day. I hope it will not be taken away from me very soon.

23.01.2022 I drew this alongside an online student over three lessons. She did hers at the other end of the web. We worked through the Loomis construction method, then two-toned shadow blocking in the process. Graphite on paper.

21.01.2022 My sketch, done alongside students in my portrait class.

21.01.2022 This is the final sample of my hatched cats and dogs: a vertical hatched spaniel. Let me know if you are interested in online classes for teens.

18.01.2022 Water-soluble oil on paper.

18.01.2022 I am really enjoying these cat and dog hatching exercises. This one uses a contour-hatching technique.

17.01.2022 I enjoy the extra time I have in the holidays. Here is today’s offering.

16.01.2022 Ive been busy preparing online lessons for the upcoming term, and fell behind in my daily portraits. Here are ones I forgot to post, and two I completed today, trying to catch up.

15.01.2022 Days 6 & 7 of Aprils 30 Faces 30 Days on Sktchy.

14.01.2022 Day 4 of #inktober2020 Radio I used gouache ink resist technique for this, where I lay in gouache paint first - I used white and pink for this one - wait for that to dry, then paint over the entire thing with black ink. When that is dry, I wash the paper in water to remover the gouache and the ink, leaving an imprint where the ink was allowed to touch the paper through the gaps in the gouache. The pink gouache stained the paper where it touched.

13.01.2022 This morning’s experimental sketch, following a lesson by Joan Martin.

12.01.2022 I had an accident in art class today. Nothing that can't be fixed with some good soap and water. I still have places left in the term 4 classes for Pre-Primary-Grade 2, Grades 3-6 and teens and adult classes. Contact me if you are interested.

11.01.2022 I have been busy with my first week of online lessons, so have neglected the tail end of the April 30 Faces, 30 Days portraits. This is number 29. Hopefully number 30 can be done tomorrow.

11.01.2022 This was an amazing draw. The level of concentration required for every stroke was challenging and perfect. I loved every minute.

11.01.2022 These are drawings by one of my young students. The first here was drawn on week 3 of this term; the second was drawn today, on week 8. These are terrible photos, I apologise, but can you see the amazing progress that has been made in only five weeks! I am so proud of this young girl. This brings me satisfaction.

10.01.2022 #inktober2020 Day 7: Fancy I used the word fancy as a synonym of imagination. Al visual stimulus is gone, and she must rely on her imagination, or fancy.

09.01.2022 I am a day behind. Here is the one I did today. Started from the left hand, drew with felt pen from left to right, and finished off with grey marker. Not perfect, but better than I thought it would be.

09.01.2022 Two more 30Faces30Days art pieces. One is done with felt pen, the other with coloured pencil.

09.01.2022 Today, being the last of October, seems a bit odd for me to be painting and posting day 8 of a daily art challenge, but it is what it is. Life is full, what can I say? Between hosting a conference at home, hosting Dante’s 18 birthday party, planning Abe’s 21st birthday party, which includes me producing almost 40 cartoon characters and six storylines for a life-sized game of a cluedo, it has been a bit busier than usual. However, I still intend to continue the #inktober2020 challenges to the end. They are fun, I am learning lots, and they help me relax. Here is Day 8: Teeth

05.01.2022 The only change I would make to this is the progression of the painting.

05.01.2022 Two more April portraits. One in coloured pencil, the other mixed media.

05.01.2022 My lazy Sunday morning. I loved doing this.

03.01.2022 Isolation Art Challenge Day 6: Two Water soluble oil on A5 paper

03.01.2022 I am not totally satisfied with how this turned out, but I think any more additions would be subtractions, so I will stop where I am. I have shown some progress shots so you can see how I got to the finish line. Oil on paper.

02.01.2022 More drawings and paintings from my April stint. I have three to go before completing the 30 portraits. Not quite one per day.

01.01.2022 My final 30 Faces 30 Days portrait, and two that I forgot to post on here. Challenge is over. I didnt quite make it, due to my preparations for, and first week of teaching, online lessons. I am happy with the learning and growth over the month. Thanks Sktchy for the lessons.

01.01.2022 I am proud to announce that two of my friends, Katrina Lovell, Michelle Jenner and I, have a display of our art created over the course of this year, titled: Home, 2020. The display will be viewable for three weeks, until 9th October at the Amherst Library Art Nook, Canningvale. HOME, 2020 January 2020. Bushfires raged across much of our beloved Australia, leaving in their wake destruction and devastating tragedy. It was into this atmosphere that the idea for the Home, 202...0 art exhibition was conceived. Feeling compassion for those who fought for their homes and livelihood, we wanted to express what home meant to each of us such an individual concept, so emotionally charged. Unbeknownst to us, 2020 had more in store for, not only Australia, but the world. Come on February and March, and the distant rumblings of a vague virus turned into a full-scale onslaught that hit the world with unprecedented impact. Our initial notion of portraying the home now took on a very personal meaning as we found ourselves, like many others in the world, confined within its walls. For each of us, Katrina, Robin, Michelle, it was time to reflect. What did our homes represent to us? How could we communicate to others such a personal and emotionally-centred concept? Individually, the work that emerged shows what we found important. Spending time with loved ones. Keeping family safe. Finding inner calm in a chaotic world. Unfinished jobs around the house, completed. Fossicking in the garden. Drawing and painting as a form of art therapy, refueling our emotions to help us through the isolation with tranquility. We hope you can relate to the works on display. We hope you can reflect on your own experiences and remember what was important to you through those months. Please enjoy just some of the art work we have completed this year. Home, 2020 Thank you for viewing. Katrina, Robin & Michelle See more

01.01.2022 #inktober2020 Day 6: Rodent

01.01.2022 Two more April sketches. I am learning lots of new techniques. Great classes, Sktchy.

01.01.2022 Two more 30 Faces, 30 Days sketches. The first is a cartoon-style, based on a one-minute speed contour drawing, then with details adjusted, and colour added. The second is a drawing, with the focus on just one feature, the hair.
