24.01.2022 Did you know? Who has a horse with one of these thumbprints? A "Prophet's Thumbprint" is a birthmark in the form of an indentation, usually found on the side of a horses neck, and it is totally harmless although it comes with a lovely legendary story! The Prophet Mohammed was wandering the desert with his herd of horses for many days, and as they approached an oasis he sent them forth to drink. But as the thirsty horses approached the water, he called them back. Only five ...of his mares stopped and returned to him, and to thank them for their loyalty he blessed them by pressing his thumbprint into their necks. Its believed that a horse with such a mark will be outstanding, being a descendant of one of these brood mares that the Prophet Mohammed particularly treasured. See more

24.01.2022 In my happy place. If I’m not looking in a horses mouth I’m usually riding one! Great to get back out there. We were very rusty after such a long break

24.01.2022 How low can you go Minis definitely give the quads a good workout On a serious note, mini’s and shetlands tend to be the ‘forgotten breed’ as far as dental hygiene is concerned. If they’re companion ponies or ‘lawn mowers’ they are often not deemed important enough to receive routine dental work. These ponies can suffer from overcrowding due to their small heads and they get sharp and uncomfortable just like the bigger horses. Please remember to include your small friends when booking your dentist

24.01.2022 Does anyone have or know of a beginners horse for sale please? 14.2-15.2. Older horse no problem but must be sound. Must be quiet with more whoa than go. No dirt or quirks.

23.01.2022 Its not easy doing a physical job in a face mask. Im not sure I agree with the doctor who said oxygen levels are not restricted when wearing a mask. Alas, we all have to do our bit to keep each other safe

23.01.2022 Its good to see the Police at the ferry this morning. Checking everyone to see why theyre travelling.

21.01.2022 It was great to catch up with my sponsored rider Amanda Ross recently and to treat her beautiful team of horses. Here’s the handsome squad...

17.01.2022 Ulceration caused by barley seeds in hay. Please check your hay. This horses lips and under his tongue were full of the seed heads, causing ulcers and much discomfort

17.01.2022 Lunch with a view

16.01.2022 Hi all, Ive had lots of enquiries in the last week, asking if Im still working. I am still working, although only part time, as my husband and I are juggling childcare while my son is home. I was only working 2 days a week, but those appointments are almost entirely filled until the middle of May, so I am now going to work on Saturdays too for a while. I would just like to advise my clients that I am taking extra precautions during this crazy time. I have Virkon disinfecta...nt in a spray bottle. My bucket, tool box and boots are sprayed in between clients. I also sanitise my hands as I arrive and leave a property. I work with new latex gloves at each client and my tools are disinfected (as always) with chlorhexidine in between every horse. If anyone would like me to wear a face mask, please advise me of this when you book. I do carry disposable masks in the car and will happily wear one on request. If you would like an appointment in the next few months please book sooner rather than later to avoid disappointment (or a long wait) Thanks, Sallyann See more

16.01.2022 A cute new client today. Not seen a dentist in 10 plus years. Unfortunately she has caudal lower 11 ramps at the back of the mouth to match this large 106 rostral hook. So Ill be back to see this lady in a few weeks, where the vet will sedate so I can begin to reduce these huge overgrowths.

15.01.2022 Clever young Bogi being very brave for his dental treatment

07.01.2022 Another busy day. Lots of caps extracted. Young horses (2 1/2 to 4 1/2) shed their deciduous caps (baby teeth) and sometimes they get retained. These retained caps cause much discomfort as food gets trapped under them and they move, with the sharp roots digging into the sensitive gingival tissue. If the caps are retained the adult tooth will erupt wherever it can, often displaced towards the tongue or the soft cheek tissue. Therefore retained caps are better to be extracted t...o allow the adult tooth to erupt in the place it should. I always love meeting the new kids on the block. Maybe this one will be the next Winx? #hayfieldsracing #racing #racehorses

07.01.2022 It’s the simple things I missed during lockdown. Being able to stop at my favourite places. It’s so good to be able to support local businesses again

05.01.2022 14.3hh Australian Stock Horse x 10yo gelding Temperament - beautiful ground manners. Handled and led around by a three year old child and is very polite. Will run next to the quad, stand tied up all day at competitions, floats beautifully, self loads, and is great for vet, farrier, dentist etc.... Bold under saddle, confident, honest and a go getter. Never refused or ran out at a jump. Doesnt get offended if put in the wrong spot. A complete jumping machine but very capable in the dressage phase too Thrives off affection. Good to paddock alone or with others. Can be ridden from the paddock bareback with a halter . Very straight forward. Never need to lunge or work down. Experience - previously a show hack and then evented, competing consistently at eva95 but schools 1* and would easily compete at that level with the right rider. Show jumps consistently at 1-1.10m. Schooling elementary dressage and has lateral work established, walk to canter etc. Suitability Can get strong in the jumping phases. Point and shoot type. Ridden in a Waterford for cross country. Moves off the leg easily so for this reason is not suited to a novice. Would suit a small adult or confident teenager who wants to have a lot of fun eventing, showjumping or pony clubbing. Not suited to a novice rider. Can go to the beach one day and out competing the next. A truly great all rounder and a type hard to find Videos and more photos available on request. POA

04.01.2022 If it works for the horses itll work for me #arcequine #microcurrenttechnology
