24.01.2022 Ten years ago today, I was given the call by the then Speaker Harry Jenkins for my Address-in-Reply, more commonly known as my maiden speech. I was elected under the Prime Ministership of one of the greatest people I’ve had the honour to work with - Julia Gillard. I became the third Member ever for the federal seat of McEwen, and the 1082nd person elected to the House of Representatives.... It is an honour and a privilege that I hold dearly. The things I spoke about then remain true today: I believe in never forgetting that when people put their trust in us, our obligation is to do everything we can to help them, and to build a better future for the next generations. The passion, the energy, and the desire to build better communities never wanes. It’s an honour to serve my communities and our nation and I couldn’t do it without your support. 24.01.2022 Once an older person becomes unemployed, in most cases they find it much more difficult to re-enter employment than younger people. Youth wage subsidies do nothing to encourage companies to

24.01.2022 It’s Men’s Shed Week this week, so let’s celebrate all the fantastic Men’s Sheds we have across McEwen. Men’s Sheds are a vital part of our community, providing social connections and support something that is really important outside the city where men can be more isolated. The Australian Men’s Shed Association has shown fantastic initiative during the pandemic by establishing online support and even a podcast so that men and women can stay connected. Men’s sheds also co...ntribute many wonderful projects to their local community, often donating what they make to local schools, nursing homes and more. Although I haven’t been able to get out to them much this year, I have always loved visiting our local Men’s Sheds over the years. If you’re interested in joining your local shed, visit mensshed.org/find-a-shed or let me know and I’ll point you to your nearest one. 22.01.2022 The Scottish Parliament voted unanimously to pass a measure to ensure free sanitary pads are available to anyone who needs them. Scottish Labour MSP Monica Lennon, who spearheaded the campaign, says the vote marks "a proud day for Scotland and a signal to the world that free universal access to period products can be achieved." The Andrews Labor govt has committed to provide free pads and tampons in government primary, secondary and specialist schools until2023. Sanitary items are a necessity, not a luxury, and the free sanitary pads and tampons in public schools initiative will support tens of thousands of students across the state. It is time we did this on a national level.

19.01.2022 Important Information for Kilmore Telstra Customers about possible mobile phone service disruptions. Telstra have advised they are in the process of completing planned upgrade works in the Kilmore Central area which will take place from Sunday 22nd November 2020 to the Sunday 29th November 2020 The upgrade work needs to be carried out during daylight hours for health and safety reasons.... I have been informed the work will take place in stages to minimise disruption as much as possible for Telstra customers but there will be some unavoidable impacts, including disruption to mobile phone services. Telstra have informed me some businesses may notice an impact to their EFTPOS terminals if they use Telstra’s 3G or 4G network for connectivity. Retailers should contact their bank for more information and details on how to switch between methods, EFTPOS terminals can also utilise fixed line/Wi-Fi/nbn internet connections which won’t be impacted Telstra customers can take advantage of Wi-Fi Calling which enables voice calls using a Fixed Broadband Wi-Fi connection from your compatible Telstra mobile when you can’t connect to the mobile network. Your mobile simply uses your W-Fi network instead of the mobile network. So you can make and receive calls as you normally would. Advice on how to enact Wi-Fi Calling can be found on the Telstra Website.

16.01.2022 Congratulations to Transition Village Wallan Inc. on the receiving a Community Energy Efficiency and Solar Grant. I was fortunate enough to congratulate Skye Forster from the Transition Village Committee in person last week. Keep up the good work supporting those who need it most! 15.01.2022 Taking care of our health will always be paramount. It’s great to see everyone working together to stop the spread of COVID-19, but we can’t forget about those other vital check-ups either. Make sure you keep up with regular and preventative healthcare appointments, including through telehealth appointments where you can. #DontWaitMate

15.01.2022 No delay. if you have any symptoms not matter how minor get checked. It’s in all our interests

12.01.2022 Aus Post has sacked workers and called on employees to work for free. They've cut services slowed mail delivery and reward themselves with flash watches. Our postal staff suffer the brunt of the failings of this board and the CEO . Disgraceful

10.01.2022 Absolute honour to get involved with the Auslan Community Leaders Challenge 2020 and support the Deaf and hard-of-hearing community today for International Day of Sign Languages. A big thank you to The Deaf Society and Deaf Services for help teaching me some sign language and interpreting my video into Auslan. This gave me a real insight into the challenges Deaf and hard of hearing people face, and to further support better opportunities for people living with hearing loss.... #AuslanCommunityLeadersChallenge2020 #Auslan #InternationalDayofSignLanguages #IWODP #IDSL2020 #IWDeaf2020

09.01.2022 Each year, the 29th September Police throughout Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Samoa and the Solomon Islands pause to honour officers whose lives have been cut short while performing their duty as a police officer. This year we particularly remember @VictoriaPolice finest Lynette, Glen, Kevin and Josh now resting in peace. To all our police officers across our nation I say thank you and stay safe.

08.01.2022 We urgently need an independent Royal Commission into veteran suicide. The latest Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) figures on defence and veteran suicides released on 9 October 2020 show that we are failing our veterans and urgently need a Royal Commission into this terrible scourge. The AIHW report shows that male veterans are 21% more likely to suicide than men generally, while the rate of suicide among ex-serving women is twice as high as the general fem...ale population. Alarmingly, the research found ex-serving men had a 66% higher suicide rate when they discharged for medical reasons compared to men who discharged voluntarily. This latest update is a wake-up call and shows we are losing the battle when it comes to saving our current and former defence personnel. The evidence is overwhelming that only an independent Royal Commission into veteran suicide is needed to shine a light on this serious issue. They risked their lives for us and now it’s time to do right by them.

07.01.2022 After a tough year for Australian musicians, #AusMusicTShirtDay is more important than ever. When the bushfire crisis hit last summer, artists came out in force to volunteer their time and their artistry to raise money for those who had lost so much. When the pandemic hit, live music was one of the first industries to shut down.... One of the best ways you can support our music industry is to buy some merch from your favourite Aussie band, or join me in donating to www.ausmusictshirtday.org.au/donate. And if like many Victorians, you’re doing it a bit tough, you can chuck on your best band shirt and share a photo to spread the word.

06.01.2022 They say if you want a friend in politics, get a dog. Lucky for me I have two great friends to come home to. Zoe won’t be happy about me putting this picture up. Bruiser loves a pic, Zoe not so much. #DogsInPoliticsDay #KeepAusPetFriendly

04.01.2022 It was great to be able to replace the tattered Australian flag at the Wallan Police Station today. I was able to catch up with Senior Sergeant Steven Conlin and hear about how our local police officers are continuing to keep our community safe in these difficult times. From myself and the rest of the community, thank you!

03.01.2022 Child care is too expensive. When my daughter does the childcare sums, she's left feeling like she's going back to work for nothing. By the time fees are paid, she's left with not much. Labor wants to cover more of your childcare fees, up to 90%, so you have more pay left in your pocket. Because Labor knows working parents deserve support. What is your experience like juggling childcare and household bills?

03.01.2022 Really what sort of low life would do this. This trailer and its contents were built with community spirit. If you know where it is or anything about this please contact Police I am more than willing to go pick it up and return it to our school.
