13.01.2022 Bubbles, Bubbles everywhere this week at Phonics With Robot Reg! This week the Mini and Preschool classes were playing around with the sound u and you can't have an umbrella without bubble rain! The preschool class also had fun playing BINGO with CVC words. Robot Reg calls BINGO when playing against the phonics bears. The babes explored and played with nursery rhymes around the topic of boats and water. Which nursery rhymes do you think we sang and played with? I'm having so... much fun in class I often forget to take pictures. 04.01.2022 Its time to get the low down on the man... errr... robot behind the name, everyone's favorite phonics friend Robot Reg! Anyone that has been to a Phonics With Robot Reg class knows Robot Reg as a very cheeky robot puppet that loves to play games with the children, especially peek a boo. But now its time to delve deeper into the educational part Robot Reg plays in our classes. Our Babes class, for children 3 months to walking, starts off with our favorite robot friend hiding ...in his bag and playing peek a boo with the children. The simple game of peek a boo has so many developmental benefits for children we include it in all our classes. For babies the game stimulates visual tracking, social development and object permanence (the idea that even though they cannot see an object it still exists). Robot Reg says hello and waves to all his friends by name at the start of each class, assisting children to recognise and respond to their name with eye contact and even a wave. Later in the class we discover what is in Robot Reg's rhyme bag, this sets the theme of our nursery rhymes to be explored and played with for the week. The Minis class (walking to 3 years) also begins with Robot Reg playing peek a boo with the children then saying hello to each child by name. This class has a large emphasis on language development and we ask the children to say hello back to Robot Reg, in turn building confidence in public speaking for the children. Robot Reg then shows the children what is in his special box which sets the scene for the letter sound to be explored during that class. Robot Reg then comes back later in the minis class with his rhyme bag to give the children a hint about the nursery rhyme to be shared and investigated. Bringing nursery rhymes to life with puppets and props encourages the children to expand their vocabulary in a fun social setting. Robot Reg's game of peek a poo tickles the preschool children's developing sense of humor when he waves with his foot, or hides from or even tickles the class facilitator! During this class the children aged 3 to 5 years learn to 'speak' like Robot Reg breaking words down into individual sounds. Robot Reg does not speak like us, so to play Robot Reg's games the children need to learn to speak like him by breaking the words down into individual sounds or blending the sounds back together. These skills are the basis of reading and spelling!! But the most amazing thing about our friend Robot Reg is that he and the children have so much FUN during class the children don't even realise they are learning!!
