13.01.2022 University of Adelaide researchers are playing a leading role in the human trials of Australia’s first needle-free, gene-based COVID-19 vaccine. The study is led by Professor Nicholas Wood from the University of Sydney and the Vax4COVID Alliance, which includes co-investigator Professor Helen Marshall, from the Robinson Research Institute, The University of Adelaide and Women’s and Children’s Hospital, Adelaide. https://blogs.adelaide.edu.au//media-release-adelaide-has/
13.01.2022 Since the early 2000's, researchers have searched for the genetic causes of cerebral palsy. One would expect these genetic studies to pay particular attention to using an accepted standard definition of cerebral palsy to avoid the risk of including cases who do not have cerebral palsy. In a systematic review of the scientific literature, it was found only 32% of genetic studies defined cerebral palsy using international guidelines, which is suboptimal. The main recommendation from this work, led by Dr Jesia Berry from The University of Adelaide’s Robinson Research Institute, is for future genetic studies to follow international guidelines in defining and diagnosing cerebral palsy and report this at publication. https://youtu.be/5S2g-MLrB3k

09.01.2022 Mums-to-be at Lyell McEwin Hospital, Modbury Hospital and some family clinics in the northern suburbs will have access to a new mental health tool which helps... detect early signs of perinatal depression and anxiety, which is a first in SA. The iCOPE screening program helps determine risk factors and symptoms, and provides feedback to women about taking care of their mental health during pregnancy. As many as 1 in 5 new or expectant mums will experience anxiety and up to 1 in will suffer antenatal depression. Taking care of mental health during and post pregnancy is important for the wellbeing of expectant or new mothers, and their babies. Northern Adelaide Local Health Network
