28.04.2022 When you purchase an artwork from me, I include a package of information and cards. Right up front is a big Thank you Card, as you have supported an artist who lives a creative life and deserves support. There is a special gift for you too, included within the package. I also make a 'Certificate of Authenticity' so that you know the quality of the materials of each artwork, what processes I used, any special instructions, and inspiration. In fact, I am validating that my artwork is worthy of investing. In Australia, postage is included in the cost, so there are no hidden extra charges. The other thing you may not know, is that all my work is inspired by the nature that surrounds me, and I give a gift back to her to thank her for what she has given me.

23.04.2022 ‘Well’ is an invitation to look deeply and engage purposefully into the mysteries of nature and our reflected selves. With quiet contemplation, curiosity and a presence in the moment she opens the door to transformation for the self and human relationships to the ecology. This artwork is for sale for AUD $3,000, which includes professional framing and free delivery in Australia. Inspired by taking the time to slow down and truly be in nature, this artwork combines pencil, watercolour and collage from my photographs.

19.04.2022 Loving this new combination of colours as they hint at that purple grey blue of the gum tree. The paper has river mud stains too straight from the Clarence. The colours are lemon yellow, viridan & violet forming that beautiful grey, with the ability to push it more green or blue. * #art #artistinstudio #myart ... #artist #artlovers #northernnsw See more

03.04.2022 I am looking forward to working with some FAB artists during Plunge 2022 at the Seelands Hall. The hall is filled with Clarence Vally history, including previous ongoing art events to make its name School of Arts. Hopeful Disruptions is our band of artists name, as by having hope we aim to raise awareness about the precious riparian ecosystems of the Clarence River/ Birrinba. The artworks are experimental, installation based and an opportunity to test ideas.

19.03.2022 It’s gorgeous to draw, I don’t want to stop & Olivia, my grandchild is right beside me and feeling the same motivation at 6am or after dinner too!

06.03.2022 When I go outside drawing & taking notes of nature's wonder, I've got to be mindful of what's best to take. Whilst I'd love to include my range of pencils, sharpener & some beautiful papers, reality is by the time I hike this stuff out there I'm going to miss the very joy & fascinating critters! So I tend to take a couple of sheets of cartridge &/ or copy paper, 3B pencil, 6B art stick & my phone & journal. If I'm super organised I pop everything into a waterproof bag cause often I'm on the kayak. Give it a go, because the moment you slow down, its amazing what you get to see, because the critters like a damselfly, or a tiny snail, or even a flash of the brilliant kingfisher who are right there in front of you!

19.02.2022 Out on the riverbank with my son Chris, talking about water quality & turbidity. The Secchi disc is used to measure turbidity & I’ve been measuring each week, since the start of 2022. My cohort Tracy Pateman is measuring the river too downstream at Ashby, & together we hope to gage a glimpse into how the majestic Clarence River is faring. We are part of an artist group @hopefuldisruptions & doing regen & making artwork about riparian ecosystems. * #art #artist #artistsonin...stagram #photooftheday #clarencerivernsw See more

02.02.2022 The peace within early morning rituals. looking out my window after a short...LOL.. yoga session, cause I'm hanging out for my pot of tea in the morning, I absolutely love to see the birds in the trees and the wallabies hop by. Nothing beats it for an open-eyed meditation!

28.01.2022 The Clarence River has such a presence living here right beside it, and I cannot help observing it every day and seeing how it has been swirling and rising higher with recent rain, locally and up in the mountains. I planted two Water Gums last year. It is a tree species native to Australia. It grows along the eastern coastline along rivers and creeks. We have some here locally, survivors of devasting chopping that goes on along our riverbanks. They are solid, strong, and... yet surprising delicate too. My two Water Gums are struggling this summer, and fingers crossed they survive the constant inundations. I love it when I see the fresh green leaves, popping out again. True survivors. * #art #artist #artistoninstagram #myart #artlovers #clarenceriver See more

25.01.2022 This week this cheery & super cute native bee was outside my studio door and demanding I look at her. You can bring a bit of nature into your home by buying one of these flying miracles, as a print for $180 AUD. I hand watercolour every bee, on the 300gsm Cranes Lettra digital print. It is signed and presented unframed on foamcore in a sealed Archival A3 photo bag. This work will fit in a stock A3 sized frame.

24.01.2022 Such a lovely comment from a happy customer! It feels good to share and connect with someone what inspires me. 'Thanks for this amazing fairy wren! It lights up our space with its playfulness and brings joy to us on a daily basis. I love the fine detail in the artwork and admire the skill that it must have taken to create such a beautiful piece! I will be buying more work from you in the future and will refer my friends!'

23.01.2022 Just glorious getting out on the river with the dappled sun accentuating the undeniable beauty of our rivers. In spite of the vivid green of the weed infestation its just bloody wonderful being out on the water, and helps tune back into feeling so good again.

20.01.2022 SOLD. I was deeply touched by this artwork going to a very special person, who loves and contributes towards helping so many people, including artists and environmental groups. Her stoicism and courage shone during dark times of her personal loss, and it seemed perfect that these two stoic gums spoke too about history, endurance, and survival.

20.01.2022 Plants reward you with so much birdlife, flowers and critters. I was quite shocked at how many native species are endangered, unless they're pretty and popular enough to be bought for our gardens! I made this drawing 'Ethereal Innocence' as a homage to the vulnerable and innocent in everything. It's a very delicate and understated work, as I wanted to highlight the vulnerable and endangered status of this plant. Using shadows and layers, the drawing represents the Zieria ...ingramii which hasn't been officially seen since 2014. It's a spindly small shrub with small white to pinkish flowers. I used shadows and layers, to represent its heightened vulnerability and if it becomes extinct, its shadows will be lost upon our landscapes. The continued loss of biodiversity in our habitat and critters is our loss. 'Ethereal Innocence', 2020, original hand drawn and painted, pencil and gouache on 640gsm Fabriano Artistico, unframed image size 78cmh x 60cmw. You can buy this work or see more detail here: https://rochellesummerfield.com/product/etherealinnocence/ The statistic is according to the Atlas of Living Australia check it out this website for lots of great information: https://www.ala.org.au

19.01.2022 I reckon it’s time to thank some of our local businesses that are battling through these fluid times, and who also support artists. The two I’d like to mention here is the Coldstream Gallery and Cher Breeze Framing. The Coldstream Gallery is at Ulmarra, a historic village halfway between Byron and Coffs Harbour, and right nearby is great pub food too with a stupendous view onto the Clarence River. Any pictures you see of my work are framed by Cher, an absolutely lovely an...d dedicated framer the best anywhere I’ve met. By purchasing my artwork via my website here; you keep me from the bread line, you support two AB FAB businesses as well. * Curious AUD $1,100.00 unframed, $1,550.00 framed 2018, photomedia pigment print on Hahnemühle paper, signed limited edition of 3, unframed image size 780mmh x 600mmw, framed size 885mmh x 980mmw x 40mmd * DM Rochelle Summerfield or contact Coldstream Gallery https://rochellesummerfield.com/product/curious/ * My art practice is deeply influenced by the connections and experiences with the rivers and habitat where I live. The work ‘Curious’ invites you to be captivated with the natural environment around you. The female subject is curious of the moment of lived experience and a purposeful awareness of being, feeling the cool waters and serenity of the environment. She looks deeply into the mysteries of the river and her reflected self. Through drawing, paint, collage and digital media such as photography and video, I disrupt traditional art forms, and combine them with new technologies. With bold collagist experimentation, I fragment and layer imagery to expose the small revelations between media. These juxtapositions open up the possibilities of reinventing different ways of being with the natural environment. See more

17.01.2022 What a wonderful good news story when a group of people recognise the value of our rivers and make small changes that build up and make a significant difference to our riparian landscapes.

10.01.2022 The river has such a great impact on my practice and I'm making this series of visual poems using pencil, gouache and collage. This is Prickly Love, the dark prickles in my mind or the weeds that love to profusely flourish out of place. Summer with crystal clear waters, wren, cups of tea and a discarded thong. Available soon framed or unframed.

08.01.2022 Some great tips

07.01.2022 Watch out little wallabies, this plant is for the koalas!!! I rescued the little plant with wire around this baby Eucalyptus Tereticornis or Flooded Red Gum. It’s loved it and has growna whooping triple its size since planting in June already Richard and I have seen some distressed koalas over the last year, with more local land clearing, and regretfully I’ve been slow to plant more koalas trees as the 4 we have planted aren’t as fast growing as the Tereticornis. It c...an grow up to 50 m high and will keep those koalas safe from predators. The second pic shows we’ve got a ways to go with weeds yet, but we’ve started & actions count #saveourkoalas #riversandpeople #riversareprecious #planttrees #rochellesummerfield @ Seelands, New South Wales, Australia See more

06.01.2022 More joy with bees, available as drawings, prints and cards. I have drawn the Teddy Bear Bee, the Blue Banded Bee, and the Green Metallic Carpenter Bee. I wonder what little miracle native bee I come upon next.

05.01.2022 ‘A walk around the river’ 2019 AUD $3000.00 framed * Pencil drawing and gouache on 425gsm Saunders Waterford paper ... Drawing 1000cmh x 1500cmw, unframed $3,000, Framed $3,300 * DM @rochelleartist W: https://rochellesummerfield.com//shadows-of-past-innocent/ * I travelled along the Macquarie River a 960km journey and was confronted downstream by the drought-stricken Macquarie River, West NSW. This drawing encompasses both the joy of nature when there is water and birdlife like the Australiasian Bittern, a very shy creature and the sadness where land clearing occurs right up to the riverbank. I wanted to describe how the river is, and how it can be if we all consider the importance of river rand its habitats for the future of us and our wildlife. Being in nature is so important to our health and well-being. Let’s reconnect with nature, bring some inspiration into your home and make a donation at the same time. * #loveyourhome #reconnectwithnature #riversandpeople #climatechange #saveourwaterways #rochellesummerfield #DontCancelCreativity #worksonpaper #contemporarydrawing @ Seelands, New South Wales, Australia

04.01.2022 I love this quote by Pablo Picasso; ‘The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our souls.’ Life would be very bleak without music, theatre, novels, movies, drawings, paintings, sculptures, ceramics, and photography, to name just a few of human creative examples. (As Covid highlighted when we were stuck indoors) I think Picasso’s quote describes the intrinsic joy of art and its immense value in bringing to life human ideas, emotions, imagination, memories, and s...tories. An artist’s theme provides a broad message or framework in their arts practice, it is their why. Often there’s a story around an artist’s particular creation and it tends to be a deep, imaginative dive into the content of their why. An imaginative example in my work, highlights the inspiration from my experiences of the rivers and habitat where l live. I look onto tall gum trees that are 200 years old and are becoming increasingly rare from land clearing. So, my heart fills with dread when they are encased with a vigorous weed called Cats Claw. Weeds are just plants out of place. So too, are feral cats who roam nearby and kill many small native birds. With my love of the irreverence and wit of collage processes, it was a no-brainer for me to put the two together. With my print experience, I drypointed into the zinc metal plate and inked up the cat face, and with the assistance of a dear friend and metal artist, stretched out copper sheeting to form the seed pods and leaves, and these tiny claws that are quite sharp and cling as it winds its way around a tree. It is a truly imaginative mobile that I hope you enjoy viewing below and will have reiterations in other media. I look forward to sharing inspiration and helpful information with you about art, artists, and the value of the arts and I’m happy to help and guide you if you have any questions. Please send me a message. 03.01.2022 Family up visiting and its rather FAB to get some help with restoring the riverbank where we live and eradicating some rather determined weeds. Chris enjoyed getting down and dirty, and seeing the trees breathing free of weed again and we planted some Castanospermum australe (Black Bean Tree), several Lomandras and Lilly Pilly Syzygium Resilience all flood resistant which is just as well!

03.01.2022 This work needed to be understated, delicate, and fragile to highlight how vulnerable it is, Zieria ingramii is on the verge of extinction. Through the use of shadows and collage, the flowers are layered as if forgotten shadows upon our landscape. This is a very special and unique artwork, made with top-quality artist materials, that will give you a personal connection to this native flower for your home or work environment. Rochelle Summerfield, Ethereal Innocence, 2020, original hand-drawn unique artwork in pencil and gouache, on top quality art paper 640gsm Fabriano Artistico, unframed image size 78cmh x 60cmw and price $1100. If you would like it professionally framed it will be $1350 in white, black or natural oak.
