20.01.2022 GOOD FRIDAY APPEAL A message from Rochester Fire Brigade. Due to the covid-19 virus, for the first time in the 89-year history of the Good Friday Appeal, there will be no early morning door knockers or no tin rattling up and down the streets. The corona virus has caused us all to be isolated to the safety of our own homes.... Whilst we are disappointed that we can't door knock and see the smiling faces on the other sides of the doors, we totally understand the necessity to continue to raise funds for this great cause in another way. Good Friday Appeal has set up a Virtual Tin Shake. Please go to the following link https://www.virtualtinshake.com/cfa Type in Rochester in the search area and proceed to donate. If you don’t have access to a computer or the internet, when you go out for essential supplies, you can visit Dingwells Newsagency and use the tin there to make your donation. Our very own Eunice Cartner has been the sole co-ordinator of running the Good Friday Appeal here in Rochester for 21 years. Eunice asked the brigade to take on the registration of the virtual tin as her computer skills aren't up to scratch. We purchased a coin counter for Eunice a couple of years ago to assist with the counting of the money. The machine is used and then the tins are still counted by hand as well. Eunice will not leave the fire station until every coin is counted and that there is a tally for the brigade. She then proceeds to ring every person who collected to give them their total and the total of the brigade. Eunice is truly an amazing and very humble member and we love her dearly.

20.01.2022 It’s great to have some good news during tough times. Recently released data shows that Rochester Fire Brigade met our response targets 100% of the time for the period Jan-March 2020. (The hottest part of the fire season) While this is a source of great pride for the brigade, it’s also clearly a great result for the community that we volunteer to protect.

19.01.2022 The fire danger period (fire restrictions) will start in Campaspe Shire on 23/11/2020.

15.01.2022 The brigade has now installed our new generator with the help of a government grant. The generator will ensure the station has power when the mains power is cut. Thanks also goes to Brad from Majors IGA for his help with the project.

14.01.2022 This week is National Volunteer week. We thought we'd share some of our memories from the past 12 months as part of this, a new picture each day this week and what it represents to us. Rochester Fire Brigade is proud to be part of such a strong volunteer community. Rochester Fire Brigade have a Juniors program which runs from Oct to Feb each year. Juniors aged 11 to 17 are welcome to come along and learn some new skills and compete in various skill sets against other brigades around the state, culminating in the State championships in February each year. There is a spot for youth of all skill and fitness levels and who would like to learn practical life skills. For more information contact our Facebook page.

13.01.2022 May 4th is International Firefighters Day & also the feast day of St Florian, the Patron Saint of Firefighters. St Florian was the first known commander of one firefighting squad in the Roman Empire. He lost his life, as well as those of his colleagues, for protecting the same humane ideas which Firefighters all over the world share today.

02.01.2022 Some great news, with Rochester firefighters Vaughan Thomas and Brett Kyne receiving the NSW Premier’s Bushfire Emergency Citation for the work they did as part of a local CFA strike team that went to help with the fires in NSW last fire season. On behalf of the Officers and members of the brigade, we congratulate them on their achievement.
