24.01.2022 As Rockfield approach 20 years in the industry in 2020 we want to look at people that have helped shape our journey. Meet Scott Anderson! As Rockfield’s longest serving employee, Scott has been with the company since it was first founded in July 2000. Initially working in the Sugar Industry research field provided him the opportunity to complete a Masters of Engineering Research in the field of fracture mechanics, including a trip to Sweden to learn the art of materials testi...ng and sailing. His next career move was to take up an engineering consultant position at Rockfield and he hasn’t look back! The variety of projects and continual advancement in design techniques and tools has kept him on his toes for the last 20 years. He is now a pool of knowledge for our younger staff. Away from the pressures of consulting he is an avid woodturner, fisherman and mountain bike rider and has multiple scars from each pastime to prove it. Keep an eye on our page in the coming months to meet more of our incredible team.

23.01.2022 As part of an holistic rail assessment, Rockfield have undertaken a study on the minimum acceptable wheel diameter of wagons in a heavy haul rail network. The analysis required complex FEA techniques to determine residual stresses present from the wheel’s heat treatment processes. This was then coupled with in-service loading and additional brake-dependent thermal loading to determine a safe working diameter. This work helps ensure minimal train breakdowns and empowers our client to make informed maintenance decisions
