23.01.2022 What a joy to receive this box of gorgeous wine and lovely thank you note from the beautiful Samantha Richards Motivational & Inspirational Speaker owner of Building Voices Public Speaking I love helping people - and although I look like Im cool calm and collected most of the time I blush furiously when Im on the receiving end of such a thoughtful gesture of appreciation. It was an absolute delight to help Sam move her classes online as we rapidly shifted into lockdown at... short notice in late March and early April. And so so entertaining and such a privilege to watch her students debate with each other as I ensured all the technical hurdles were overcome in those first few classes. I tell you what, our politicians could learn a thing or two from Sams students! 19.01.2022 "Just one more hill. Its the last hill babe" Those are the words that got me through a 94.7km bicycle race on a tandem with my husband. Of course he was lying (with love) to me. We had about 10 "last hill"s before we finally crossed the finish line. This Edison quote always reminds me of that race across and around Johannesburg, with tens of thousands of amateur, hobby semi pro and pro cyclists - and the complete mental shift in my brain from the several experiences that oc...curred through the 3 hours and 15 mins it took us start to finish. I could have quit when we fell at the midway point. The paramedics were ready to take me, covered in blood from head to toe scrapes and bruises. I could have quit at the first of the "last hills" as I gasped for breath and felt the burn in my entire lower body and I pushed through the climb. But I didnt - and we pushed through together. How close are you to your finish line? Does today look like the "Last Hill"? What will it take for you to get through today? Think about that - because in todays covid pandemic, economic downturn and employment crushing state of affairs - that is the only question that needs answering. What will it take to get you through today? And then tomorrow, well tomorrow is your next "Last Hill". And each day is your last hill - until it isnt anymore. So when you are overwhelmed today, by what the easing and imposing of restrictions mean (wherever you are in the world) - focus on today. 16.01.2022 Resilience is not an end goal, but rather it is an ongoing skill that we nurture and continue to work on - even when we think we are generally resilient. Putting the "NOs" into context is, for me at least, a vital part of building emotional and mental resilience. A no is a bump, a small hurdle to be stepped over on my way to the end goal. With the hard lockdown of the 9 Melbourne towers ASRC have offered their catering services (which the government... has accepted) which employs many refugees. They are also still offering general support, including their food hamper packs but they are running out as fast as they are made.
