25.01.2022 Seeking Camp Cook & Mechanic for Seasonal work! There is an opportunity to join an industry-led, family owned business located in rural Western Australia. We need a couple to fill the roles of camp cook and mechanic. Taking on this position will enable you to see the amazing Australian countryside of the Wheatbelt of WA, whilst making a good income! We are a small team of about 6 operators and farmers and move farm to farm. We have a fully independent camp that provides all o...ur needs for power, water, bathrooms, washing machines, kitchen, and dining room. We can camp out near the work in real Glamping style! We need our own wonderful cook and handy mechanic to making the whole show go smoothly. A couple with your own van would be best. The Mechanic position is to maintain our large tractors, trucks and Reefinators and shift the camp from site to site. The role of the Cook position is to shop, prepare and provide three meals a day and maintain the camp in a clean, tidy state. To be successful for these roles: You must have a valid HR Class Licence. Please provide a resume outlining your experience, qualifications, transferable skills, and enthusiasm. All food and accommodation will be provided to you on site. Meals and washing all on site. Full training provided for machine operation. Working for a safe and reputable company. Good pay rates. $/hour depending on skills. Start date is Early January 2021 till May June 2021. Those with similar experience and enthusiasm are encouraged to apply.

03.01.2022 SCF in conjunction with members Brad and Tracy Wooldridge held a successful field walk at Brad and Tracy's Kalgan property on Friday July 31. Over 50 enthusias...tic growers and ag industry reps attended the afternoon, which featured static machinery displays from Castle Drilling Co., live demonstrations of the Rocks Gone Pty Ltd Reefinator and Direct Seeding and Harvesting Equipment pasture seeding and a look at some of the feed management strategies implemented on the farm. Mixed farmers Brad & Tracy purchased the 240 hectare property near Albany in 2017 to mitigate production risk against their 500-hectare property in Arthur River. In 2017, the land in Albany cost a similar amount to Arthur River yet had double the annual rainfall (Arthur River 400mm). However, the most recent five seasons at Arthur River have only produced 200mm or less growing season rainfall vs Kalgan River with 800mm. The savvy investment has not been all smooth sailing for Brad and Tracy with challenges coming thick and fast from low-pH soils, rough and rocky paddocks, snails, double gees, inkweed, thistles, rushes, foxes, and estrogenic clovers. The listed constraints are all hindering pasture production, but which are most important to mitigate first? Brad and Tracy discussed some of the lessons learned over this period to help other producers and there was plenty of discussion on different approaches to solve the problems presented. Brad and Tracys overall aim is to increase the pasture/fodder production on the property, which they believe is currently well below the rainfall potential. SCF are also running an MLA Producer Demonstration Site on the Kalgan property for a project titled Alternative Forage Crops for Southern WA. The project aims to increase the awareness and adoption of forage crops like 970 canola, Pallaton Raphno, oats and sorghum in the high rainfall zone. At this field walk, we saw Brads forage crop of 970 canola and oats, which is ready to be grazed by ewes with lambs at foot. The day was completed with a sundowner drinks and bbq for all to enjoy. Many thanks to Elders for the loan of their field day BBQ trailer and CSBP Fertilisers Albany for supplying refreshments. Huge thanks to Brad and Tracy Wooldridge themselves for hosting us all for the afternoon.
