21.01.2022 By Bob McGowan After a long and sustained set of negotiations and presentations following our return from Covid-19 we welcome back long-term sponsors and a number of new partners of the Rockhampton Bowls Club. We recently finalised our continuing association with The Capricornian, a partnership of some 37 years. Whilst we were interrupted earlier in the year in progressing this partnership, I am happy to announce The Capricornian has agreed to sponsoring the final six months ...of 2020. Next year will mark a quarter of a century of our association and we look forward to meeting with their marketing department either later this year or early 2021 to come to an agreement for hopefully a non-interrupted full year. The Mercure Rockhampton has again seen fit to maintain its association with our club, again another long-term sponsor. If any bowlers from out of town are looking for accommodation close to our facilities you can't stay any closer than the Mercure because it’s right next door. Fence signage sponsors include Trend Interiors Tile & Carpet Court, another business which has been a long-term supporter, and LJ Hooker. We welcome three new businesses which have come on board, Thomo’s Betta Home Living, Kev Brown’s Butchery and Nuflow. See more

20.01.2022 The importance of roles within a club By Lesley Bates Bowls Queensland has released the District/Club Administration Guide that highlights the responsibilities and duties of positions and ensures that the correct procedures are in place to comply with the legal responsibilities and assist with the efficient running of a club. I have been on some excellent club committees but it can be hard work to secure replacements when these positions become vacant. Sometimes, the reason f...Continue reading

09.01.2022 By Rod (Kiwi) Gardiner Kennas 1 will have their name inscribed on the perpetual Capricornian Shield after winning Season 2 2020 of Jack Attack last Friday night. The season proved a great success with eight teams totalling 36 players playing a round robin series over eight weeks culminating in the final between Kennas 1 and Bowling Stones. The final points tally was: Bowling Stones 104, Kennas 1 100, Hobos 75, Bowling Blisters 71, BBs 64, Mayhem on Mary 58, Kennas 256, Joombi... Chasers 26. In the final, played over 5 ends, Kennas 1 got the better of Bowling Stones 10-9. The club received great feedback from the participating players and all indicated they would be back for more next year. The program introduced several players to the game for the first time and a number of players have indicated they are keen to pursue bowls on a more regular basis as members of our club. I would personally like to thank all the volunteers who donated their time during the series. I won't name them all here (lest I leave out one or two names) but you know who you are. In particular, I would like to thank our chairman Bev Johnston and former JA coordinator Peter Tyler for their unwavering support and The Capricornian for their ongoing sponsorship. Jack Attack will be back early next year. See more

08.01.2022 The upgrading of our BBQ area is now completed. The BBQ was donated by Beefeaters and is of a very high standard. To celebrate the opening of the BBQ a free breakfast was offered to our members. Sixty members/families enjoyed cereals, juices, poached eggs, scrambled eggs, sausages, bacon, baked beans, spragetthe toast and tea/coffee. Peter Tylers a master of poached eggs, Bernie Gottke, scrambled eggs, Peter Craig sausages/bacon. Max Littleton baked beans. Roy Dobbs who is o...ur master of BBQ cooking kept a close eye on the volunteers. Peter Tyler officially opened the new BBQ facility and Patron Grant Cassidy also addressed the gathering. A BPL type game was played and called the battle of the sexes. This time the men had a huge win over the ladies and I would expect very stiff competition next year. The original BBQ was built by the Douglas family and today the son of Jim Douglas called in to see the New BBQ. See more

05.01.2022 I'm pleased to report that the overhaul of our outdated website is well under way. If you visit the club's website at www.rockhamptonbowls.com.au you will notice numerous changes which hopefully provide a better service for members and non-members alike. These will give you direct access to all competition ...Continue reading

03.01.2022 Renovations to the upstairs function area will get under way once plans for the complete project are delivered from the architect, Gaven Gilmour, of Bauhinia Architects. Mark Faulkner, a registered builder, has inspected the site and will come back with his plumber to have another look at the area to gauge the best avenue for the plumbing required for the new cold room. This project will be completed in stages, the first being the installation of the cold room and constructio...n of the new bar. Further down the track the project will include modernisation of the area where the old bar now stands. It is hoped that we will have plans completed and back to us in the very near future so work can commence. Once we have them to hand we will display the plans for all members to view both in the clubhouse and on our website. The entire upstairs area will not be renovated at once; the plans will allow for renovations to be completed in stages. Your committee will look at applying for other grants to offset the cost of the remainder of the renovations. See more
