25.01.2022 DOUBLE DEMERITS Christmas Double Demerit period will begin at midnight this Friday, 20th December 2019 and finish at midnight on Wednesday 1 January 2020. MOBILE PHONE CAMERAS... And dont forget, there are now overhead cameras recording drivers using mobile phones. There have been more than 3,300 drivers caught by these cameras since they were enacted on 1st December 2019. EMERGENCY VEHICLE SLOWDOWN RULES With the bushfire situation looking like it will continue into Christmas and the New Year, remember that there are new rules regarding emergency vehicles on the road: On higher speed roads (with a speed limit of 90km/h or more), motorists are required to slow down safely to a speed that is reasonable for the circumstances. Motorists must also provide sufficient space between their vehicle and the stationary tow truck, breakdown assistance or emergency vehicle displaying flashing lights. This will include changing lanes on a multi-lane road if it is safe to do so. On lower speed roads (with a speed limit of 80km/h or less), motorists will continue to be required to slow to 40km/h when passing stationary tow trucks, breakdown assistance or emergency vehicles displaying flashing lights. Please be careful and vigilant on the roads this holiday season. Our office will be closing at 12 noon on Friday 20th December, and re-open at 9am on Monday 13th January 2020. Have a happy and safe Christmas and New Year Hawkesbury.

24.01.2022 Malware and Phishing alert: There is currently a flood of fake emails being sent, purporting to be from various genuine companies, containing an Excel spreadsheet and with the subject: "Co-Vid Important Information". These emails are being sent by spoofing genuine business email addresses. We are unaware of any emails being sent using our domain name, however we have received a number of such emails, some appearing to be from other law firms.... Do not open these emails. The Excel spreadsheet appears to contain malware. Roderick Storie Solicitors will NEVER send you unsolicited email. If you are a current client, please check with us if you receive any email and are unsure if it is genuine. A screenshot of one of these emails is below. We would appreciate if anyone does receive such an email purporting to be from this firm, that they report it to us. Thank you and take care.

18.01.2022 A subject most people don’t want to talk about: Last Will and Testament. Everyone should have one. It’s particularly important for those with children.... If you die without a valid will (known legally as ‘dying intestate’), the intestacy rules under the Succession Act 2006 (NSW) come into play to determine how your assets will be distributed. The intestacy rules usually only let your family members inherit from you, but who’s your family? Your immediate family might know but someone’s got to prove that and find out if there are any other children of the deceased who might be entitled. These searches take time and cost money. Similarly, for a wife or husband. How many spouses did the deceased have? A valid will avoids all this cost, delay and uncertainty. The last thing your family needs if you pass away, is to have to deal with complex legal issues. Worst of all, if you don’t have any relatives, your estate goes to the Government. And it’s worth reviewing your will every 5 years or so, to ensure that any changes that have happened in that time are consistent with the wishes in your will. Buying property, having a baby, getting married, moving in with someone, divorce or even just losing a piece of jewellery you may have gifted to someone in your will, can mean your wishes may not be carried out the way you want them to be. Roderick Storie Solicitors can give you peace of mind. Contact us to make an appointment to have a valid will drafted. https://www.rodstorie.com.au/services/wills-and-probate

02.01.2022 Wishing all a very Merry Christmas and a better New Year. The subject of our Christmas card this year is historic Windsor Court House c.1821 The Windsor Court House is a rare surviving Colonial Georgian public building that originally dates from the early 19th century. ... The building has a fine and impressive form which uses an adapted Palladian plan to suit the Australian climate. It is of considerable historical, social and aesthetic significance, as one of the earliest surviving Court House buildings in Australia. The Court House was insisted upon by Governor Macquarie, designed by Francis Greenway (himself originally a convict) and built by William Cox using convict labour. It is a combination and the result of all the forces directly at play during Australia's early development. Windsor Court House is still, and has continuously been used as, an operating court house since it was built in 1821.
