25.01.2022 From June to September last year, over 55,000 hectares had already been scorched by bushfires in northern WA, compared to only 4,000 hectares so far for the sam...e period. The latest outlook from Bushfire and Natural Hazards CRC is predicting normal fire conditions through to November. The northern bushfire season may be off to a slower start, but complacency is still deadly. Fire and Emergency Services Commissioner Darren Klemm AFSM is urging those who live near bushland to take advantage of these milder conditions to prepare their properties and bushfire plans. Those in the north west have been fortunate to have avoided a major bushfire up to now but complacency can be deadly. Being prepared is the best way to survive if disaster strikes. 25.01.2022 Welcome to Wirlburu! Locals and visitors to our northern regions will be enjoying the shift from the cool to hot season this month. Both days and nights are wa...rming up, which we have certainly seen reflected in the growing number of bushfires. Keep an eye out for the yellow flowers of the wild pear beginning to bloom and different species of cockatoos will have had their chicks. We’re in for some warm weather around the State next week, so it’s a good time to think about your bushfire plan and how you can prepare your property www.dfes.wa.gov.au/bushfire/prepare

25.01.2022 A 23-year-old hiker who became lost in the Mandu Mandu Gorge near Exmouth yesterday, Sunday 6 September 2020, has made contact with Police this morning, Monday ...7 September 2020. About 4:00pm yesterday the 23-year-old woman travelled with a friend to the Mandu Mandu Gorge in the Cape Range National Park and commenced hiking on a trail, while her friend waited at the trail entrance for her to return. The hiker failed to return and was reported missing to Police by her friend about 9:00pm last night. Exmouth Police and Karratha Police managed the initial search planning overnight, with DFES State Emergency Service volunteers, Police Air Wing and an officer from the Emergency Operations Unit activated to deploy this morning. The missing woman contacted her friend about 8:00am this morning and it was established she was not injured and had become lost on the trail. The trail is 3km long and after walking for 7km she realised she had deviated from the official trail. Acting Sergeant Brendan BYRNE, Acting Officer in Charge of Exmouth Police, said the incident serves as a reminder of the importance of safety equipment such as PLBs and satellite phones. When hiking in remote parts of Western Australia phone reception can be an issue at times, and it is critical to have a ‘Plan B’ option readily available. Items such as a Personal Locator Beacon or a satellite phone would have enabled the lost woman to immediately alert authorities to her situation and in the case of a satellite phone could have been used to guide her back out. If you’re planning on hiking a trail for the first time, please familiarise yourself by studying trail maps prior to commencing the hike. I would strongly recommend hikers also carry detailed maps to prevent going off trail. Fortunately, on this occasion the hiker was not injured and was only exposed to one night out in the elements. In the warmer months the weather would have been a lot more of problem, especially if sufficient water supplies were not being carried.

24.01.2022 Thank you for the follow Fran Logan MLA. Very much appreciated! Also great to see you at the #wafes2020 conference a few weekends ago and all the work you're doing with the emergency services not just in the metro areas but also in the regional hubs too!

24.01.2022 Always Was, Always Will Be. We recognise that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were Australia’s first explorers, first navigators, first engineers, first farmers, first botanists, first scientists, first diplomats, first astronomers and first artists.... The very first footprints on this continent were those belonging to First Nations peoples. NAIDOC 2020 invites all Australians to embrace the true history of this country a history which dates back thousands of generations. It’s about seeing, hearing and learning the First Nations’ 65,000+ year history of this country - which is Australian history. We want all Australians to celebrate that we have the oldest continuing cultures on the planet and to recognise that our sovereignty was never ceded. Always Was, Always Will Be. Shape of Land artwork, by Noongar and Saibai Islander man Tyrown Waigana. Shape of Land description: The Rainbow Serpent came out of the Dreamtime to create this land. It is represented by the snake and it forms the shape of Australia, which symbolises how it created our lands. The colour from the Rainbow Serpent is reflected on to the figure to display our connection to the Rainbow Serpent, thus our connection to country. The overlapping colours on the outside is the Dreamtime. The figure inside the shape of Australia is a representation of Indigenous Australians showing that this country - since the dawn of time - Always Was, Always Will Be Aboriginal Land. www.naidoc.org.au Department of Fire and Emergency Services WA #roebournedistrictsses #community

20.01.2022 Every year our big bosses at Department of Fire & Emergency Services run a little thing called the #WAFES conference. It is a chance for every volunteer in all services that fall under the FES umbrella to catch up with each other. This year was no different and over 800 Emergency Service Volunteers made their way to Crown Perth for 48 hours of very serious work stuff. This year we got to look at, touch, and ultimately break some of the new fleet ("I thought it was supposed to... go in that way round boss" type stuff). A new boat for Marine Rescue, 3 new vehicles for #stateemergencyservice (general rescue, storm and RCR) and about 6 new vehicles for the fire services made their world first outing! The conference also celebrates exceptional volunteers who were nominated by their peers for just being amazing. Our friends over at Karratha State Emergency Service were nominated for multiple awards and walked away as finalists in the most glorious of locations at the Crown Grand Ballrooms in Perth. We are, and always will be proud to stand next to, not only our friends in Karratha, but also every unit in the state that requires our assistance. Thank you to our local community for your continued support and we'll see you out on the road soon when La Nina kicks up a bit of a storm!

20.01.2022 Heads up everyone! With cyclone season coming up again you'll probably want to make sure your trees are trimmed, and loose piles of greenery disposed of safely by CofK, instead of possibly causing damage to your property or of those around you. #roebournedistrictsses City of Karratha Kelly Nunn - City of Karratha Councillor Karratha State Emergency Service
