24.01.2022 We are excited to announce the winner of the first pair of hand painted skates for #whereiskate is @skatemindo. This skater has engaged in learning across many facets this month and has used their platform thoughtfully and meaningful to advance their skating and allyship. Congratulations! Please DM us so we can discuss your skates that will be painted by Darkinjung artist @grantmolony #Repost @skatemindo Week 4 #whereiskate campaign For the final week of @rollerfit campaign..., they have asked us to reflect on the ways we will carry our allyship forwards into our lifelong journey. I spent all week thinking about different, meaningful ways I could move forward to better allyship. Although I am trying to sign as many petitions and raise awareness to issues I am seeing around me, I believe I could be doing more to look deeper and really focus on amplifying Indigenous voices. The first thing I did was make myself a Link Tree for my bio which contains resources and places to donate to. After that I decided to choose an Indigenous organisation from that list to make monthly donations to - I chose @djirravic N got a cheeky shirt from @clothingthegap which I cant wait to rep. Heres a lil on what Djirra do - Led by the formidable Antoinette Braybrook, Djirra is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation focused on preventing and addressing family violence. The Melbourne-based organisation provides legal and non-legal support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who experience family violence - predominantly women. Djirra is the Woiwurrung word for the reed used by Wurundjeri women for basket weaving. Traditionally, when women gathered to weave, important talks took place and problems were solved. Djirra symbolises Aboriginal women today, still coming together to share stories, support each other and find solutions," explains Braybrook. I am also taking part in NAIDOC week this year, accompanying Headspace as part of the Youth Advisory Group. NAIDOC 2020 invites all Australians to embrace the true history of this country.

21.01.2022 Our #WhereISkate month is officially over, but it certainly wont be the last you will see from us in our activism for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. We want to sincerely thank everyone who joined in for #whereiskate and shared their journey with us. We raised $3540 which will be split evenly between The Healing Foundation (@healingourway) and Black Rainbow (@blackrainbowaus). The winners of the remaining prizes will be announced this week. A special thank you... to Keisha from @leondesignco for our amazing campaign artwork, to Team Indigenous Dreaming (@teamindigenous_dreaming) for their involvement and support, and to our entire RollerFit team for participating across the month. This skater is originally from the USA and has actively been learning about Indigenous history on Ngunnawal Country where her family now lives. We have enjoyed her honesty and desire for personal growth and cant wait to see you rolling on skates painted by @russmolony #Repost @xxjcashaxx 8-12/365... This weeks @rollerfit #whereiskate journey is to focus on jumping but more importantly how Australian schools often jump over the parts of history on the injustices to First Nations people. I didnt grow up in Australia and this certainly happens in the USA as well. However today I will focus on where my family calls home, Australia, and learn something about indigenous history I didnt know. I wanted to know more about fierce, strong women from the Canberra region. Nellie was a Ngargio woman who was born in Ginninderra. Nellie and her partner, Bobby Hamilton had three children and her eldest died from measles (after the whole family contracted it) and later her husband died of tuberculosis. She lost many friends and family to disease. She was a highly respected person in the Ginninderra region. In 1888 her leadership as a Ngunnawal elder was recognised with a brass breast plate and henceforth being known as Queen Nellie. She was invited as a guest of honour for the opening of the Tharwa bridge. Although it was never recorded in the media about her attendance. She was quoted as saying You come and take our land, kill our game and let us starve, and if we take a sheep or kill a calf, you shoot us or put us in gaol. You bring your disease and give it to us - we had nothing like that until you came and stole our land - you give us rotten blanket and bad rum. During my research I also found that 55% of those imprisoned in the ACT are aboriginal women, almost twice the national average. . We must and we can do better. I would like to acknowledge and pay respects to the traditional custodians of this land on which I skate, live and work, the Ngunnawal people. I will continue to educate myself about this beautiful land and her first peoples. #whereiskate #rollerskating #moxiro

08.01.2022 It is with sadness that the RollerFit team have decided to postpone SkateFest Homegrown 2020. Last week we received a notice from NSW Health advising against any events that promote inter-regional mixing and multi day sporting events. While we already knew a national event where all States and Territories could attend was probably out of the question, we had still hoped to do a NSW focused event. However, with this new advice, we dont feel we can proceed with the event while... still ensuring the health and safety of our community. We are sad about this announcement, but the good news is that it's just a bump in the road. We are already working with @centralcoastcouncil to find a new date for the event in what were hoping is March 2021. We hope this means we can all come together in the new year and will continue to post updates as we know them. For now, keep skating, engaging in your local scenes, and following your local restrictions and advice. Hopefully we can get through Covid together, and come together to skate in 2021.

04.01.2022 We are very excited to announce that RollerFit ACT will be running a 6-week Roller Dance Course on Ngunnawal Country / Canberra in September-October 2020! With your instructors Matt and Amelia Wheeler @two_wheelers This 6-week course designed by our RollerFit Dance instructors provides an excellent foundation in roller dance skills. The first three weeks will cover the fundamentals of roller dance, while the second three weeks will expand upon these foundational moves to o...ffer a bit more of a challenge. Tickets are available for purchase in blocks of 3 or 6 weeks. Only 10 spots left! Tickets are on the Workshops & Events tab of the @rollerfit shop website, check the link in our bio! COVID-19 protocols also described on the ticket page.
