24.01.2022 IMPORTANT WELLBEING REMINDER If you’re feeling a bit like this poor old sign after last week’s storm, you’re not alone - it’s been a very challenging time f...or our wonderful community and the message is: it’s okay not to be okay. It is very normal to have strong reactions following an emergency or distressing event, and people can experience a range of physical, mental, emotional, and behavioural reactions - the Vic Emergency team and their partner organisations have been working hard to make sure support is available to those who need it. There are a number support services on offer to help you and your loved ones recover from the strong emotional or physical reactions you may be feeling, and some of them are detailed below. Lifeline 13 11 14 or text 0477 13 11 14 Beyond Blue 1300 224 636 Kids Helpline 1800 55 1800 headspace (Youth) 1800 650 890 WellMob (ATSI) 1800 512 348 Parentline 13 22 89 1800RESPECT 1800 737 732 Domestic Violence Hotline 1800 200 526 Carers Australia 1800 242 636 QLife (LGBTIQ+) 1800 184 527 MensLine 1300 789 978 Relationships Australia 1300 364 277 Importantly, as we move into the clean-up and recovery phase of this event, please keep a close eye on your mental health, and that of others - it's completely normal after such a major emergency to be struggling a little or a lot and that's why there is free and confidential help available if anyone is in need. Find out more about accessing mental health support services from the Better Health Channel after a traumatic event here: www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au//conditionsandtreatments/traum. Take care everyone - we're all in this together. Tiffany Warner Photography

22.01.2022 What is your bushfire survival plan? Victoria is one of the most fire prone areas in the world. If you live near areas that have significant bush, forest or long grass, then you need to plan ahead for the fire season. A written and preferably well-practised plan will help you remember what needs to be done during a crisis.

21.01.2022 some good advice if you have a kitchen fire from Fire and Rescue NSW don't ever put water on a fat fire!

Move vehicles under cover or away from trees. * Stay indoors and away from windows. * If outdoors, move to a safe place indoors. Stay away from trees, drains, gutters, creeks and waterways. * Stay away from fallen powerlines - always assume they are live. * Be aware that in fire affected areas, rainfall run-off into waterways may contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks. Heavy rainfall may also increase the potential for landslides and debris across roads. * Stay informed: Monitor weather warnings, forecasts and river levels at the Bureau of Meteorology website, and warnings through VicEmergency website/app/hotline. 14.01.2022 Leaving early is the safest option to protect yourself and your family. Leaving early means leaving the area before a fire starts - not when you can see flames or smell smoke. Your trigger to leave is what prompts you to act. You should use the Fire Danger Rating to determine your trigger. On Severe, Extreme or Code Red days you should not be in a high fire risk area. www.cfa.vic.gov.au/plan-prepare/your-bushfire-plan

08.01.2022 Burning off grass, stubble, weeds, undergrowth or other vegetation is generally permitted outside the Fire Danger Period. Consider disposal at your local landfill or in your usual green waste, mulching or, if you’re allowed, you may be able to burn off before summer. https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/pla/how-to-prepare-your-property

08.01.2022 Don’t leave piles of green waste near your home. Reducing the vegetation around your home is one of the most important things you can do to keep your home safe in a bushfire. www.cfa.vic.gov.au/plan-prepare/how-to-prepare-your-property
