19.01.2022 World Polio Day - 24 October

18.01.2022 Thank you Henry Muradzikwa from Zambezi Crafts for the very entertaining and thought provoking story of his life growing up in Zimbabwe, his adventures as a park ranger and safari tour guide and his eventual emigration to Australia. We are lucky to have him in the Adelaide Hills where he and his partner Lia source genuine and ethically made handcrafts from Africa for their shop in Hahndorf and their market stall. Come and visit Zambezi Crafts in Hahndorf - you won’t be disappointed!

16.01.2022 Catch up with this story in your copy of Rotary Down Under!

12.01.2022 Many thanks to our members and friends who have been getting down and dirty planting and potting for SA BUSHFIRE GARDEN REVIVAL in readiness for their Cudlee Creek Open Day on September 12. Three trailer loads of plants were delivered to Kersbrook yesterday and this morning ( a big thank you to David and Grant). #stirlingrotary #SABGR #supportingourcommunity #peopleofaction

10.01.2022 On Monday we held our annual Hat Night to highlight mental health and to support Rotary Health. Members wore a favourite hat and prizes were awarded in several categories including for the best personal hat story. Our speaker was Chris "Savvy" Savill, an RU OK? Ambassador, who was recently named Mt Barker Citizen of the year for 2020 ! He was engaging, enthusiastic and an informed advocate for mental health. He taught us to be alert, how to recognise the signs that someone is experiencing difficulties and how a simple, but sincere, "Are You OK?" can start the process of opening up to ask for help. #RUOK? #AustralianRotaryHealth #HatsOffForMentalHealth

08.01.2022 Great work Onkaparinga!

07.01.2022 What a busy couple of weeks it has been! Last Monday we heard from three of our Community Grant recipients about the projects they’ve been able to embark on with the help of our grant money. On Friday a group of members and friends attended Wallis Theatre in Mt Barker for a movie fundraiser. The movie ‘Rams’ was enjoyed by all. The fundraising continued with another red wine bottling - our highly recommended COVID Vaccine! While at the Stirling Market, Tim and Dan were all set up to promote our upcoming Sculpture Exibition and the wonderful work of Shelterbox.

06.01.2022 Charity Navigator rates the Rotary Foundation a PERFECT 100. The exceptional charities on this list execute their missions in a fiscally responsible way while adhering to good governance and other best practices that minimize the chance of unethical activities. Each has earned perfect scores for its Financial Health and its Accountability & Transparency. Those two scores then translate into a perfect 100 point overall score. Less than one percent of the thousands of charities... rated by Charity Navigator have earned perfect scores. We applaud these charities for exceeding industry standards and outperforming other organizations performing similar work. NOVEMBER is Foundation Month - make a difference in the world.

06.01.2022 There are many organisations supporting the development of literacy - like the Indigenous Literacy Foundation and the World Literacy Foundation. International Literacy Day is on September 8 - a good opportunity to support their projects. And there are ample opportunities to support literacy in our own community. Go visit the best little bookshop in South Australia - Matilda Books or browse the shelves of The Book Shed - run by The Hut Community Centre. (They welcome your donations of pre-loved books as well) #matildabooks #thebookshed #literacyforall #RotaryOpensOpportunities #basiceducationandliteracymonth

05.01.2022 HELP NEEDED! Does anyone have a bit of spare time on a regular basis? Some of our members are already helping out by collecting on Tuesday mornings from Food Bank.

01.01.2022 COMMUNITIES AT WORK! The Hut Community Centre's Food Pantry has now been operational for four months, with thanks to additional funding support from the Department of Human Services due to COVID-19. More than 30 families, couples, and individuals have accessed the pantry for non-perishables, fresh fruit and vegetables, toiletries, bread, and meat. A much needed and appreciated service for those in our community who are experiencing financial hardship, the Hut is now investiga...ting how to maintain this service into the future. The Food Pantry is open weekly on Tuesdays 1pm-3pm and Thursdays 10am-12pm, and there is no cost for the community to access it. Please spread word to those in need of assistance. The Hut extends its appreciation to Foodbank, Bakers Delight Stirling, Aldgate Bakery, OzHarvest, and Rotary Club of Stirling for their support with this program.
