22.01.2022 Hi everyone, Some information gathered from todays COVID19 update, together with some additional information. Take care, Kel... 671 new covid cases, 73 connected to outbreaks, 598 under investigation. A night time curfew will be implemented across Melbourne from 8pm-5am from tonight. These restrictions will run until Sept 13. A "State of Disaster" will be declared in Victoria from 6pm tonight - giving police additional powers. Night time curfew will be implemented across Melbourne from 8pm-5am from tonight. Melbourne residents will only be allowed to shop and exercise within 5km of their home. All students across the state will return to home based learning. Childcare will be closed in Melbourne. (**Open in regional areas as per stage 3 requirements) Flexible and remote learning back for all schools across the state of Victoria from Wednesday. Students of parents working will be able to be supervised at school but only those absolutely needing to be cared for. **See notes regarding Specialist Schools remaining open in regional areas. This Tuesday is a pupil free day in Victoria. All students across Victoria to return to remote learning from Wednesday. Announcements coming tomorrow about changes to workplaces. Workplace changes will be announced for Victoria tomorrow - some staggered things to come. Today is about how we live and tomorrow is about how we work. Regional VIC to move to stage 3 restrictions from Thursday. See picture for details. Premier 2nd Aug 2020 Statement On Changes To Regional Restrictions From the outset of this second surge, our aim has been to protect regional communities. By putting a ring around the city, we want to protect the entirety of our state. For the most part, its worked. But as we know, this virus doesnt discriminate, and its only goal is to spread. Based on the current numbers, its clear there is a real and growing threat in some regional communities. The thought of this virus getting into regional aged care and wiping out entire generations within our regional communities is something that keeps me up at night. I know Im not alone. We cannot let this virus tear through regional aged care in the way it has with private sector aged care in Melbourne. We cannot let it mean more Victorians in hospital beds. More Victorians hooked up to machines just to breathe. And more Victorians more grandparents, parents, sons, daughters, partners and loved ones choked to death by an invisible enemy. Thats not something Im willing to accept. I dont think its something any of us are willing to accept. We must do more. We must go harder. Its the only way well get to the other side of this. Its why from 6pm tonight, Victoria will enter a State of Disaster. We used this same provision over summer, and as we step-up our fight against this public health bushfire, we need to use it again. This will give our police additional powers to make sure people are complying with public health directions more on which well have to say in the coming days. And from 11:59pm on Wednesday, regional Victoria will return to Stage 3 Stay at Home restrictions. That means therell again only be four reasons to be out: shopping for food and essential items. Care and caregiving. Daily exercise. Work and study if you cant do it from home. Otherwise, you need to stay home. Businesses in regional Victoria will also return to Stage 3 restrictions. That means restaurants and cafes can only offer delivery and takeaway. Beauty and personal services will need to close. Entertainment and cultural venues will need to close. Community sport will need to stop. This well be tough for these businesses and their workers and well have more to say very shortly about extra support to help get you through. Face coverings will continue to be compulsory ensuring that if we do have to be out, its in the safest way possible. The question I know most parents will be asking: regional schools will return to remote and flexible learning across all year levels and across the state. The only exception will be for our specialist schools. Onsite supervision will again be made available for students who need it, including children whose parents are permitted workers and vulnerable kids who cant learn from home. We know this will be a significant ask of parents with little ones and big ones too. But I promise, as a parent to three, its an ask I dont make lightly. These changes will be in place for at least the next six weeks. As always, well keep reviewing and realigning the restrictions in line with the advice of our health experts and if we can change things earlier, we will. I know therell also be questions about why restrictions are needed in some communities that have no cases. But as weve learnt over the course of thing, just because you have no cases today doesnt mean you wont tomorrow. And when the cost of failure if measured in lives, its a risk we cannot afford to take. Ive had the job of leading this state for almost six years more than 2000 days. And today is by far the hardest day and the hardest decision. But it is the decision Ive made to keep our state safe. The whole way through this, I promised to be upfront. So Ill say this now. This will be imperfect. And for a little while, therell be more questions than answers. Its why Im asking something else of Victorians please be calm, please be kind, please be patient. I understand people will feel scared and sad and worried. But we are Victorians and we will get through this as Victorians. With grit, with guts and together. All the temporary sacrifices we make now all the time missed with mates, those delayed visits to mum those sacrifices will help keep our mates and our mums and our fellow Victorians safe. We can we will get through this. Apart. But together. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Statement from the Premier: Statement On Changes To Melbournes Restrictions I know how much Victorians want to go back to some semblance of normal or at least COVID normal. They want to be able to get a beer with their mates. To drop round and see mum. And they definitely want an end to these daily updates and their grim new milestones. Our health experts tell us the measures weve introduced are working. But too slowly. The current rate of community transmission mystery cases that cannot be traced back to work or home is far too high. As they tell us, based on the current numbers, cases might begin to drop off not in days or weeks but in months. Months more of lockdown restrictions. Months more of 300, 400, 500 cases a day. More Victorians in hospital beds. I know Victorians are with me when I say, too many people are not taking this seriously. And too many people not taking this seriously means that too many other people are having to plan funerals for those they love. Its why from 6pm tonight, Victoria will enter a State of Disaster. We used this same provision over summer, and as we step-up our fight against this public health bushfire, we need to use it again. This will give our police additional powers to make sure people are complying with public health directions more on which well have to say in the coming days. From 6pm tonight, Melbourne will also move to Stage 4 restrictions with stronger rules to limit the movement of people and limit the spread of this virus across our city. That includes a curfew from 8pm to 5am beginning tonight. The only reasons to leave home during these hours will be work, medical care and caregiving. Where you slept last night is where youll need to stay for the next six weeks. Therell be exemptions for partners who live apart and for work, if required. The Night Network will be suspended, and public transport services will be reduced during curfew hours. This will also allow us to redeploy more of our PSOs into our enforcement efforts. New time, distance and gathering limits will also apply for exercise and shopping. Exercise will be limited to a maximum of one hour per day and no more than five kilometres from your home. Group size will be limited to a maximum of two you and one other person whether you live with them or not. Shopping will be limited to one person per household per day. Again, the five-kilometre rule will apply. Of course, therell be some common-sense exceptions. If your closest supermarket is further than five kilometres, you can still shop there. If youre a parent with little ones, you can still take them with you when you go for a walk. And these distance, gathering and time limits wont apply for work, medical care or compassionate reasons. Study at TAFE and uni must be done remotely. And from Wednesday at 11:59pm, weddings in Melbourne cannot occur. Face coverings will continue to be compulsory ensuring that if we do have to be out, its in the safest way possible. The question I know most parents will be asking: schools will return to remote and flexible learning across all year levels. Students who are currently attending onsite including senior students and those in our specialist schools will go to school on Monday, have a pupil free day on Tuesday, and be learning at home from Wednesday. Onsite supervision will be offered but tightened only available for students who really need it. That means children whose parents are permitted workers and vulnerable kids who cant learn from home. From Thursday, those same rules will apply to Melbournes kinder and early childhood education services. We know this will be a significant ask of parents with little ones and big ones too. But I promise, as a parent to three, its an ask I dont make lightly. These changes will be in place for at least the next six weeks until Sunday 13 September. As always, well keep reviewing and realigning the restrictions in line with the advice of our health experts and if we can change things earlier, we will. We also recognise that workplaces continue to be the site of many of our cases. Today, Ive made some announcements that change how Victorians will live tomorrow, Ill have more to say about the way Victorians need to work. I know that will cause a certain level of anxiety and uncertainty. But the truth is, this is complex and were going to take some extra time to make sure we get these calls right. Where requested by DHHS as part of outbreak management or enhanced surveillance. The following applies when someone is deemed a close contact by the Public Health Contact Tracing team: A person will be contacted by the Public Health Unit or an authorised delegate such as a Gippsland-based tracing and monitoring team. The person will be asked to self-isolate and advised on the optimal time to get tested. It is important the person stays at home until they are tested and then returns home until their results are known and their case reviewed. 09.01.2022 We as humans do not learn from history and are therefore doomed to repeat it. The Spanish flu lasted for 2 years. The second wave killed far more people than th...e first, and in total there were 4 waves. It killed somewhere between 20 million to 50 million people. Citizens were ordered to wear masks, and everywhere shut down and boarded up schools, movie theaters, and business. Mail distribution stopped, as did garbage collection. Many people had to dig graves for their own family members. Here we are 100 years later, and what have we learned? Half the people do not want to wear masks because they think it is a hoax/it is not that bad/the government is lying/insert insane right-wing conspiracy theory rhetoric here. People want to prioritize their own narcissistic desires and privileges over other human beings lives. What did they have in 1918? No TV. No internet, not a lot of food supply. What do we have? TV, internet, movies that can be watched from home, UberEATS...you name it. And yet we are a world full of entitled and selfish people who lack human empathy and act oppressed when given any minute sense of responsibility. Travel is not a necessity. Movie theaters are not a necessity. Throwing parties is not a necessity. Being a decent human being should not be a revolutionary act....it should be common sense. (This was shared to me from a friend. Cheers Jason)

01.01.2022 Great free mental health training over zoom for Wellington Shire residents!!

01.01.2022 This is not the news I wanted to be delivering today and Im sure its not the news anyone wants to be hearing. Weve managed to slow the case numbers over th...e past couple of weeks. But the epidemiological modelling is telling us that at current rates of transmission, and with our current restrictions, it would take months to drive the numbers back down not days or weeks. And that means months of uncertainty and living in limbo. It also means, sadly, more Victorians in hospital beds. More Victorians hooked up to machines just to breathe. More funerals. We cant allow this to drag on and Im sure everyone would rather get on top of it as quickly and decisively as we possibly can. And the only way to do that is to rip the bandaid off, go harder and do it now. Thats why from 6pm tonight, Victoria will enter a State of Disaster. We used this same direction during the fires and as we fight this public health bushfire, we need to use it again. This will give Victoria Police additional powers to make sure people are complying with public health directions and well have more to say on this in the coming days. From 6pm tonight, Melbourne will also move to Stage 4 restrictions with stronger rules to limit the movement of people and limit the spread of this virus across our city. That includes an 8pm-5am curfew beginning tonight. The only reasons to leave home during these hours will be work, medical care and caregiving. Again, youll need to stay within 5kms of your home. Supermarkets will remain open just as they have throughout this entire pandemic so there is absolutely no need to rush out now to stock up. There will be some common-sense exceptions. If your closest supermarket is further than 5kms away, you can still shop there. If youre a parent with little ones, you can still take them with you when you go for a walk. And these distance, gathering and time limits wont apply for work, medical care or compassionate reasons. But basically staying at home needs to mean exactly that. No loopholes. No excuses. Case numbers have also been rising in regional Victoria and we cant allow that to continue. The data suggests theres a risk the virus is moving faster and more widely than previously thought. Thats why from 11.59pm on Wednesday, Stage 3 restrictions will return across regional Victoria meaning there will once again only be four reasons to be out. Restaurants and cafes can only offer delivery and takeaway. Beauty and personal services will need to close. Entertainment and cultural venues will need to close. Community sport will need to stop. This timeframe is to help local businesses prepare not an excuse to go racing around seeing friends and maxing out your social calendar. Even though regional restrictions dont formally start until Wednesday night, if you can stay at home in the meantime, you must. To the question I know most parents will be asking: Schools will return to remote and flexible learning across all year levels, in all parts of the state. Students who are currently attending onsite will go to school on Monday, have a pupil free day on Tuesday, and be learning at home from Wednesday. Onsite supervision will again be available but only for students who really need it. That means children whose parents have to go to work and vulnerable kids who cant learn from home. From Thursday, those same rules will apply to Melbournes kinder and early childhood education services. We know this will be a significant ask of parents with little ones and big ones too. But I promise, as a parent of three, its an ask I dont make lightly. These changes will be in place for at least the next six weeks until Sunday 13 September. As always, well keep reviewing and realigning the restrictions in line with the advice of our health experts and if we can change things earlier, we will. Today, Ive made some announcements that change how Victorians will live. Tomorrow and in the coming days, Ill have more to say about changes to the way Victorians need to work recognising that workplaces continue to be a source of much of the spread. I appreciate this gap between announcements may create a level of anxiety and uncertainty and Im sorry about that. But the truth is, this is complex and were going to take some extra time to make sure we get these calls right. I know this is a lot of information to take in and there will be details to figure out and questions to answer. Ill explain things as clearly as I possibly can, and do my best to clarify any points of uncertainty over the next couple of days. The truth is that there are no easy solutions. If that were the case, the global community would be rid of this virus already. If there was a magic bullet, more than 683,000 people wouldnt have already lost their lives around the world. This is the biggest and most complex challenge weve encountered in living memory and it requires big and complex solutions. People will no doubt be feeling scared and sad and worried. Thats only natural given what were facing. Its why Im asking something else of Victorians: Please be calm. Please be kind. Please be patient. Please treat people the way you would want to be treated. And please look out for each other. We can we will get through this.
