25.01.2022 Update: On Friday Lindy Hop was delivered to her new very happy owner near Ballarat. She travelled very calmly and didnt get anxious at all, arriving cool and dry after the long journey to the other side of the State. Jason and youngster Lindy Hop doing some tricks in prep for her new home. Its all in the name of desensitisation.

25.01.2022 Going out for some huff n puff!

24.01.2022 A nice note to finish on for this 2018 year... For those who know the (rescued) Earaheedy Walers, our former lead mare Margaret's adult daughter (rescued with M...argaret as a foal), Kerry-Lynn, had a colt foal about a week ago to a Clayton Station stallion. 'KL' as she is known, belongs to our vet friend Sheila Greenwell, who lives in Margaret River. KL is an awesome mare, much like her mighty mother. She's done everything from pony club to dressage to cross country fun to being part of the Riding Develops Ability team in Margaret River. Her temperament is unmatched. Her very flashy son, 'Tom', has been named after Tommy Ningebong who was Fred Popes right hand man with the horses. Fred Pope was basically the creator of the Earaheedy line nearly a century ago, on that station up north. Tommy, an indigenous stripling who Fred took on board, learned horses well and did a lot of the breaking and handlinghis mulga round yards etc are still standing in some places. The Earaheedy Greys are dying out. There were simply not enough of them rescued. They are a rare line of heritage horses with even rarer temperament, personality, athleticism and build, and it's nice to know that a few will carry on the genes, at least for the foreseeable future. Blessings and long life to Tom, his wonderful mother, and the humans who care for them. #wadifarmlife #earaheedygreys

24.01.2022 Father and daughter Clayton Eureka Gold and Rosehaven Ladyhawk. First set of shoes so off down the bush to experience a whole new world.

24.01.2022 Jason and I had a weekend of dressage and showjumping at the fabulous Sale show grounds. As usual Ricky and Fantale behaved impeccably. A very well run weekend by the Sale Adult Riders Club.

23.01.2022 Lest we forget.

22.01.2022 Rosehaven Ladyhawk first ride tonight. Went around great, very pleased with her progress.

22.01.2022 Creek crossing.

21.01.2022 Do you think this would be a good matchup? Both chunky Walers and about 16 hands. Both have exceptional temperaments. Perfect coupling to get that bigger boned type Waler that we, at Rosehaven Walers, so desire. Can’t wait!

21.01.2022 Latest project. Part bred Waler filly Rosehaven Serenity DOB 10/2013. Will be working her for the next month or so until I am happy with her to find a new home. I will keep you all posted on her progress.

20.01.2022 Tonights training for Ladyhawk just keep adding challenges for her, handles it all with ease.

20.01.2022 Meet TW Homelands Quickstep! (W0924) Classic Akbah x Newhaven Foxtrot. She is 14.2 hands and about the same in width!! She is having a break from stud duties... and is on the brink of founder with the spring flush we are experiencing in Gippsland. So home she comes to Tyers for a strict diet and a little exercise. She has never foundered before but she looks like she is about to explode! See more

20.01.2022 It was announced in Federal Parliment late last year that like New Zealand Australia will have its war animal day on 24 Feb each year. Buy a purple poppy from RSLs and normal outlets supporters advertized on this page or seen on our webpage.

20.01.2022 Summer is here folks!!

19.01.2022 Today, 31st October is the anniversary of the famous charge of Beersheba in 1917 aboard those strong brave horses that became known as the Waler. It’s not on my calendar as an American spooky tradition. Lest we forget the sacrifices that were made by man and beast for this great nation.

19.01.2022 We’re really looking forward to being a part of this wonderful fundraising day in entertaining with our Waler demonstrations.

19.01.2022 Anyone you know? Here are a few happy snaps from some Victorian competitions last weekend, we were there in spirit :). Thank you to our wonderful photographers Michelle Knoll Photography Rhonda Hunter Jodie Gleeson

18.01.2022 This is Rosehaven Ladyhawk today, have been taking her very slowly. Probably her 12th ride in total, going great negotiating water, mud , steep pinches, rocks and what ever native animals decide to jump out on the way.

18.01.2022 Jodie Elston, Gayle Hall and Jason at the Trafalgar team penning on Saturday. They didn’t get any prize money but instead a lot of smiles - and new friends!

17.01.2022 Some action shots from Traralgon Horse Trials on the weekend. The photos make the weather look as if it was on its best behaviour - it certainly wasnt as it was cold and wet and windy! Credit to the photographer Fiona Meliza Photography.

17.01.2022 This is Rosehaven Hermione, a 3yo part Waler, part Thoroughbred/Connemara cross, filly. She is currently 15hands and has some further growing to do. Her full... brother exceeded 16 hands. (Sire is 16.2hh and Dam about the same). Jason is working with her under saddle now and she is a very willing student. She is being conditioned now to road traffic and bush riding in some very tough terrain including rocky tracks, mud and creek crossings. She is going well now on her own and in a group. She is for sale and private enquiries are invited. See more

17.01.2022 Poppy let loose with Solly after weaning

16.01.2022 The next young one to be prepared for sale Rosehaven Ladyhawk. She’s a beauty.

16.01.2022 Today in Australia, is Remembrance Day where we give thanks for all those who gave so dearly in times of war, including our wonderful horses. The poem Tribute... below, is for them. In Memory of Those Who Have Fallen Remember the Lighthorse... I was one of thousands of horses Bred on the mountains and plains Known as a breed called the Waler With courage and stamina a-flow in my veins Like the men and women of our country We were called upon for war And just like our human comrades We were drafted by the scores I was broken in to the bridle They were trained to the rifle and bayonet I learnt to jump and run with stifling weight They learnt from blood and tears and sweat I was a troopers horse, a Lighthorse Known for bravery and speed My larger brothers pulled the heavy guns Each one, a credit to our breed Our training days were over And the best of us walked the line Thousands of Australians Who were called upon to shine We were loaded on a metal ship Spending months upon the sea Floating to a land of war To our very destiny I was fearful, I was wary But obedient and brave My trooper asked for brilliance And that is how I would behave As the shoreline of the war fields Broke the far horizon grasp The gunfire and the burning sand Would make a bold soul gasp We waited for the order Then plunged onto the sand We were ready for this challenge Noble steed and brave young man We galloped to the war zone To join our comrades side Jumping bodies of the fallen Who had fought and died with pride Our line was being peppered And I watched my brothers fall But the vast majority made it safely And we were ready for the call We were picketed out at night time Fed small rations from the stores We were bred for this, to be hardy Brave and honest to the core Our victories were many As we charged the enemy line Jumping bunkers and gun turrets We would surge, time after time Casualties were common Injured horses, injured men But we were soldiers, so come morning We would saddle up again The conditions were atrocious And the challenges were great But Id treasure every meal time And a kind word from my mate His gun would kill the enemy His actions, regimental But his heart was kind and honest And his touch was soft and gentle While the war exploded round us I would calmly wait his cue He would stroke my mane to ease me Just one soul, from bodies two I cant recall the miles we trudged Or the numbers that we lost But we were fighting for a greater good And a triumph worth the cost Our Victory was won from courage That made us famous round the world Our Lighthorse brigades, unbeatable And the Waler horse, the pearl But unlike most other victories Where the winner takes the spoils Our Victory meant the end for us No more would we touch the soil...... .....Of our homeland, of the mountains Of the lush and rich grass plains We were laid to rest on a land of war Our blood and bone to stain...... ......The beaches and the memories Of the soldier men who ride They couldnt take us home with them And with us, a piece of them would die So though our earthly gallops finished We still roam the plains of dreams Where our history shaped the future Like rushing water in a stream And as I talk to you from the pastures That lay beyond this world Please remember me The Lighthorse As your destiny unfurls Written by Guy McLean ANZAC DAY April 2010

14.01.2022 A bit more learning for Ladyhawk

14.01.2022 Competing at TTT Horse Trials at Greenvale near the Melbourne Airport.

14.01.2022 Rosehaven Ladyhawk

14.01.2022 Second ride in the round yard for 10 minutes and then out around the house. Into the arena area and around a few obstacles. Taking everything in her stride.

14.01.2022 Tonights lesson, lets learn how to lead another horse and put up with them being close and bumping around. Not that keen to start with but accepted it all in the end. Very pleased with her progress.

13.01.2022 The WHSA was represented at the East Gippsland Field Days by us supported both days by member Chris Smillie. He took these videos of Jason in action on Clayton Eureka Gold (Ricky).

13.01.2022 It was a beautiful Saturday for us in Victoria as we climb out of this rotten winter.

13.01.2022 Proudly offered for sale: 9yo mare part bred Waler, registered with Waler Horse Society of Australia Inc. Recently measured (unofficial) at 15.2hh. Her only vice is that she loves to eat!

11.01.2022 Clayton Diesel N Dust entertaining our Boxing Day guests. He always enjoys a lay down with a two year old. I think Sadie is his favourite baby.

11.01.2022 We are offering this lovely rising 7yo mare for sale, for someone with some experience as she has been broken in, had some work under her saddle then spelled for the last year or so.

10.01.2022 We had a long weekend at Orbost, in East Gippsland, competing at the Horse Trials and showjumping. Fantale as usual was such a joy to me. I got just as much from competing on her myself as I did watching Ella compete on her in the showjumping and then Thomas walking her out before tucking her in for the night. I love this mare from the desert.

09.01.2022 Billy Idol (4yo in Feb ‘21) had his first float ride to our Tyers home property today. He has started his big-boy training with the roller, bridle and some desensitising with bags and stockwhip. Very happy with him today.

09.01.2022 This is Solly our next home project. She is Fantale’s younger sister. We caught and started her on Clayton Station then brought her home for a few more weeks riding then chucked her out for the last two years. It’s back to basics for a while, but when the weather gets better here in Victoria her training will ramp up. She is 16 hands of solid, gorgeousness and we are thinking a coupling with Talara Aranda Guan Wei (Red) our resident chunky chestnut stallion would produce something special!

08.01.2022 Rosehaven Lawson is a special girl to us. On the right is from the weekend as she is officially back in work and quite overweight! Jase has shod her in preparation for the miles she will do this season! The pic on the right is Ella on her at the Sale Show a couple of years ago.

07.01.2022 Fantale, my special girl, looking good in her winter woollies last week when I was last able to have a quick ride before this shocking weather closed in.

07.01.2022 The next young one to be prepared for sale Rosehaven Ladyhawk. Shes a beauty.

07.01.2022 Serenity at the 2018 Warragul Show, in hand and ridden.

07.01.2022 The new 4HSL gooseneck horse float that was Jason’s ISO winter project to rebuild, is on its way to VicRoads to be registered!

06.01.2022 When your pony is so relaxed at a competition, you plait-up sitting down! Fantale, you are such a character!

06.01.2022 This is 5 mo Rosehaven Poppy (WHSA reg pending) by Talara Aranda Guan Wei out of Clayton Wicked Games (Clayton Outlaw x Clayton Honey). Thats her dam behind left of her. We are rapt with the product of this pairing! She is going to be a ripper.

05.01.2022 Clayton Eureka Gold meeting his daughter, rising 3 yo Rosehaven Lindy Hop (dam TW Homelands Quickstep). She is being prepped for her new home. We have others from her crop for sale too.

04.01.2022 Tonight’s training for Ladyhawk just keep adding challenges for her, handles it all with ease.

04.01.2022 This is Solly our next home project. She is Fantales younger sister. 04.01.2022 Im sure some horses are happier now, but this is true enough...

04.01.2022 I'm sure some horses are happier now, but this is true enough...

03.01.2022 Rosehaven Lawson is 3 1/2 weeks in to full fitness training. I am battling good spring grass growth in trying to get some weight off her, but I think I am winning. Her aerobic fitness is a lot better with the interval training I am doing with her. She is yarded during the sunny days and in a small paddock at nights and bad weather days until the grass dries up a bit. We are entered in a local Horse Trials on 10 Nov so the race is on for better fitness.

02.01.2022 Jase and Diesel Liz and Rick Friday night practice

02.01.2022 And she’s sold! In the pouring rain she was on the way to her new home. Serenity has gone to a lovely family not too far from here. The young girl is the granddaughter of the new owner. She will be very well looked after. Congratulations!

02.01.2022 Today’s feature is Rosehaven Billy Idol (WHSA reg. F1094). He is a 3yo (24/2/17) unbroken gelding, he’s around 16 hands at a good guess ATM. He is by Clayton Eureka Gold (Ricky) out of Rosehaven Rosie (25% Waler) who was by Mulpemoh Twoey (Twoey was here before he went to Clayton Station). Check out those amazing eyes and the two-tone forelock!

02.01.2022 Tonight’s lesson, let’s learn how to lead another horse and put up with them being close and bumping around. Not that keen to start with but accepted it all in the end. Very pleased with her progress.

01.01.2022 This is one of the breeds used to develop the Waler horse breed in Australia 100+ years ago.
