10.01.2022 At this weeks meeting we had a balloon debate around 3 women represented on Australian currency: Dame Mary Gilmore, Mary Reibey and Edith Cowan. Whats your opinion on these historical figures? Out of the 3 who would be your favourite? Whats a balloon debate? I hear you ask.... A balloon debate is when 3 members are each nominated to assume the role of a separate historical figure. We then assume that these three people are in the basket of a hot air balloon which is only has enough lift to keep one of them safely aloft. The members have three minutes each to argue why they should be the one to remain in the balloon, and live, while the others are thrown over the side to their deaths (there is no hope for a controlled landing with more than one person in the basket). It is then up to the meeting to vote on who should be saved based on the arguments put forward.
