Since 2009, Rotary ...has worked with USAID Global Health on a $18 million partnership to create access to clean water and improve sanitation. The projects the 30 Rotary clubs implemented, along with their USAID partners, have benefited more than 160,000 people. Have you worked on water and sanitation projects at home or around the globe? 20.01.2022 Sometimes people have walked out of a family violence situation with just the clothes they’re wearing. Or they’ve been allocated housing, but they don’t have a...ny furniture. That’s where we come in. Since 2015, the Western Emergency Relief Network (WERN) has been supporting people across Melbourne’s west supplying everything you need to turn a house into a home. Fridges and mattresses. Sofas and crockery. Bedding and washing machines. They’re backed by local Rotary Clubs and work closely with Melton City Council but the program's administration manager Ross says physical donations come in from all sources. Businesses chip in with goods to spare, and members of the public drop off pre-loved furniture and homewares. And over the past five years, they’ve distributed 45,000+ household items and supported more than 5,500 locals to get what they need. The past few months have been busier than usual, with more people struggling because of the pandemic. WERN recently helped a mum with two young kids who’d moved and didn't have any furniture. Some of the community supports she’d normally turn to aren’t currently operating so Ross got the call from the council. People normally get to come down to the warehouse and select their own stuff but Ross says the volunteers did their best to pick out things this young family might like. Once restrictions ease, the kids can choose some more things for their rooms and any extra bits and pieces they need. There are thousands of volunteers across Victoria like Ross and the WERN team, who give up their time and energy to help others. And I’m guessing there are thousands more who would like to get involved but aren’t quite sure where to start. That’s why we launched We Volunteer, in partnership with Volunteering Victoria. It’s an online portal that matches potential volunteers with organisations for the benefit of the whole community. Because as Ross says, To know you have significantly helped someone just by giving a little of your time is amazing. People helping people. That's what Victoria is all about.

15.01.2022 Who would have thought that playgrounds from Mornington are going to travel to Sri Lanka before we do? On Monday, RC Mount Martha members had an update from our... own Wayne Jenkins on the Rotary Overseas Recycled Playgrounds(RORP) project whereby unwanted playgrounds here are harvested and then sent to developing countries where they are greatly appreciated. 36 playgrounds that otherwise would have gone to landfill have been received overseas & are now bringing joy to many children. This is a win-win project and it is cost neutral for Rotary Clubs. If you are interested in learning more about this fast growing project (RORP is now in Western Australia, South Australia & the Northern Territory as well as here in Victoria) contact us via Facebook or email us [email protected] #RORP #peopleofaction See more
