25.01.2022 Samford Rotarians are looking forward to hosting their 27th Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony next Saturday. We have welcomed some 580 new Aussies over this time. Thanks to Hon Peter Dutton for accepting our invitation for the 17th time to undertake the role of Presiding Officer and to complement our ceremony by conducting his annual Dickson Awards presentations recognising community volunteer achievers throughout Dickson.

23.01.2022 On 5th May 1947, 16 people lost their lives in what was and still is to this day, Queenslands worst rail disaster. In 1997 Rotary was involved in organising what was a very emotional 50th anniversary commemoration and this year has supported the Samford Museum with the 70th anniversary activities and commemorative service. In preparation for the recent event, a number of club members undertook a working bee at the crash site on McLean Road South to refurbish the commemorative cairn installed in 1988. It was pleasing to see at the service held at the museum, a number of people who were directly involved in the accident as passengers, rescuers or families. The Museum has for many years maintained a significant record of rail in the Samford Valley and information about this disaster.

21.01.2022 25 years ago, Samford Rotary Club members started parking cars at the then Samford State School Country Fair and this morning put around 450 cars and their passengers safely in place. Thanks to all those drivers who expressed appreciation at the assistance and we caught the last few Rotarians as they packed up for the day.

21.01.2022 Samford Rotary Club has joined with Samford Area Mens Shed to assist in delivering a much needed piece of medical equipment to the Ampilatwatja (pronounced um-bludder-witch) Community Health Centre in the Northern Territory. The project falls under the broader Rotary Australia World Community Service programme and its Medical Repurposing Network who source surplus equipment for distribution to Australian and overseas needy communities. This Ultrasound machine has been donated... by the Samford Medical Centre, Station Street and has left on its long journey to the Territory which will end with a 100km trip up the Stuart Highway from Alice Springs followed by 220kms of sometimes impassable gravel road north east to the Ampilatwatja Community, the residents of which are excitedly awaiting its arrival. What a great collaberative project this has been for a most worthy outcome. See more

08.01.2022 Rotary does it again. Another fantastic Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony conducted this morning followed by the Hon Peter Dutton's Dickson Awards. 27 candidates originally from 11 countries became new citizens making a total of 580 over our 27 years of conducting these Ceremonies. The lamington cake in the shape of a map of Australia even included Tassie and was quickly consumed along with the obligatory damper over an excellent morning tea. Country singer Sharryn Bell did us proud with some great Australiana songs and it was a buzz to have our three youngest "new aussies" assist Peter Dutton and our President Maggie cut the cake. #Maggiemoore #gaynorthearle #bobmillar #janelleyoung
