13.01.2022 Police are encouraging members of the public to remain vigilant after a spate of car thefts on the states Far North Coast. Officers from the Tweed/Byron Police... District launched Operation Marauder in late January 2020, after a spike in vehicles being stolen, property theft from unsecured vehicles and subsequent fraud offences. Since the operation began, police have arrested 12 people and seen a decline in offences in the past few weeks. The operation focuses on prevention, response and disruption. To prevent these crimes, police are seeking urgent community assistance to make property theft more difficult for opportunistic offenders. This week, police responded to five incidents involving car theft, stealing from a motor vehicle and break-and-enter in the Tweed Heads and Kingscliff areas on Wednesday 19 February 2020. It appears the vehicles were not locked, creating an opportunity for offenders to steal the property. Police understand that at times leaving cars open can be accidental. Theyre encouraging residents and visitors to the area to be vigilant and ensure valuables are always secured. If you notice any suspicious behaviour please report it to your local police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence.
