12.01.2022 It was lovely to host the Rotary Club of Sullivans Cove tonight for a Reception at Parliament House, to cap off the celebrations for the Club reaching $500,000 ...in funds raised for charity utilising our car park on Saturdays! Pictured here with the District Governor John Dare and Club President Peter Gibson, and also joined on the night by Scott Bacon MP and Hon Rob Valentine MLC, the Club has put in 24 years of work to reach this significant milestone and deserve congratulating! We also managed to sneak in a quick tour of the Chamber at the end of the function. I was delighted to receive a commemorative plaque on behalf of the Parliament as Speaker last Saturday morning, and I wish them well for the next $500,000! See more

09.01.2022 Very honoured to accept as Speaker on behalf of the Tasmanian Parliament a plaque to commemorate the amazing efforts of the Rotary Club of Sullivans Cove raisin...g half a million dollars through the use of the Parliament’s car park on Saturdays. Quite an achievement, as these volunteers have distributed the funds donated to dozens of beneficiaries including the Hobart PCYC, Loui’s Van, Ronald McDonald House and a range of other local, national and international charities and causes. Rotary members, including 87 year old Cliff Iles who has manned the gate over 200 weekends, first began charging vehicles a donation to park here in 1991 and 24 years on the initiative has become so synonymous with Hobart’s Salamanca Market and the waterfront on Saturdays I think it is fair to say it is iconic itself! We’ll be placing the plaque at the entry gates to Parliament, and I am hosting a ‘thank you’ function to mark the occasion this week. Congratulations to all involved! See more
