21.01.2022 Who is the President of Rotary Cairns Sunrise? Meet Nadia! I have been a member of the Rotary Club of Cairns Sunrise since December 2018, however I first became involved with the Rotary family when I joined a Rotaract Club in Brisbane. I then moved to Cairns to be with my partner Nick, a Cairns local, who I met at University. I’m originally from Rockhampton, and grew up on a property at Gracemere. I find Cairns to be the perfect balance big enough that there’s always somet...hing going on, but small enough that you still get that everyone knows everyone feel. Outside of work and Rotary, I am also on the Committee of the Cairns Young Chamber, a sub-committee of the Cairns Chamber of Commerce. I’m very creative and enjoy doing puzzles, macramé and photography (my most regular subjects being our cat Kreacher, and new puppy Tilly). I’m also in the progress of taking up a few new craft methods, so perhaps watch this space. Coming off the back of COVID, one of my main goals is to re-engage our current club members, while attempting to attract new ones. Connection is crucial in the current climate, especially as individuals, families and businesses come out the other side of a terrible situation. With our club taking over the management of the Palm Cove Markets this year, a huge part of our focus for the year will be trying to make this one of the best markets of the region, and strongly promoting the locals supporting locals initiative that is increasingly important. Although I am currently the youngest member of the Cairns Sunrise clan, I know that I am surrounded by so many experienced and passionate Rotarians, all of whom have been incredibly supportive of me already, and I truly look forward to seeing what we can achieve as a club in the next 12 months.
