25.01.2022 Rest assured that ALL proceeds from this years Tracks @ The Tree will be directed to our chosen recipients. This year, your efforts in supporting us will go to four worthy causes: * Macquarie Homestay * Western Cancer Centre Foundation * Gulargambone Pre-School * DIGP Brain Tumour research

25.01.2022 If there's an upside to these pesky pandemic procedures, it's that we've been nudged off our nether-regions to get out and about more than we perhaps might otherwise do as a club. This week's meeting saw us gather on a beautiful day in the grounds of the Central West Leadership Academy in Dubbo, a centre of educational excellence that continues to kick some major goals with the efforts of its gifted cohort of students. Principal Mandi Randell gave us a run down of some of t...he programs and news from across the campus of the not-for-profit, non-denominational school, and we in turn were able to present a donation as part of our ongoing support. We were also joined by our member Lee Oddy, whose "day job" is Care Manager for renowned local aged-care facility, UPA Bracken House. Lee, along with UPA Western Regional Manager Elaine Baillie, came along to catch up with fellow members and to accept a donation from our club to put towards activity programs for Bracken House residents. Our pictures show immediate past president Peter McInnes making the donations to round out his year in the chair. With the opportunity to support our community, enjoy great company, stunning sunny spring weather and a delicious lunch provided by the good folk of Rotarian Henry Jom's West Dubbo IGA, what's not to love about a Rotary get-together? 25.01.2022 The annual "changeovers" across the Rotary network have been somewhat different this year, ours included. Thanks to Covid-19 restrictions, the usual handing-over of club reins was a far more low key affair than were used to, but nonetheless important as we mark the end of an unusual year (to say the least!) and the start of (fingers crossed!) a year in which were able to build on the accidental opportunities afforded us by the pandemic reset. After all, the theme for 2020-2...1 is: Rotary Opens Opportunities (for the Aussies playing along at home, that acronym is ROO ;-) A congratulations to outgoing President Peter McInnes who, through no fault of his own, had perhaps the toughest year in our clubs history but who managed to keep us connected even though socially distant. And equally enthusiastic "hurrah" for incoming Pres Lawrie Donoghue who has hit the ground running and is already seeking out those aforementioned opportunities for us to continue to serve our community in a post-pandemic new normal. Congratulations also to our outgoing and incoming boards. Onwards and upwards for the mighty Macquarie Rotary!

25.01.2022 Snags are sizzling, sos the bacon and eggs - so where the bloody hell are you? Were about to kick off for Australia Day in the park - come say gday and enjoy a FREE barbecue, and cheer on all those folk who are becoming Aussies today at the citizenship ceremony

25.01.2022 They say theres no friend like an old friend, and we were pleased as Punch to formally welcome Natalie Bramble back to the club fold today. Inducted officially by our President Lawrie Donoghue (at our Covid-safe meeting at the awesome new Elizabeth Park Playground near the Shoyoen Japanese Gardens), Natalie is no stranger to the family of Rotary, having been an exchange student, a founding member of Dubbos Rotaract (the youth arm of Rotary) and then a "grown up" member of our club for many years until work commitments necessitated a little break from official membership. Well known locally as a dynamo of the business and community development sectors, Natalie remained a supportive and active "friend" of Rotary throughout her hiatus, and we are absolutely delighted to have her back :-) Congrats Nat!

23.01.2022 Rotary has partnered with organisations such as Rural Resilience Program, Rural Adversity Mental Health Program - RAMHP, NALAG NSW and Australian Red Cross to r...un a series of events aimed at getting people off the farm to socialise, reconnect and forget about the drought for a moment. https://www.westernmagazine.com.au//hope-flows-from-proje/ See more

23.01.2022 Hot sunshine, sizzling sausages, warm hearts - the perfect combination for the MAAS Group Properties Christmas family fun day at Southlakes Estate in Dubbo yesterday, where we were happy to be part of bringing the community together for some festive cheer. Lovely to see everyone out and about enjoying each others company and joining in the fun. Congratulations Maas Group Properties and thanks for having us as part of the fun :-)

22.01.2022 What a treat it was to have our former exchange student, Andre, join us from Brazil for our meeting today. This terrific young man, always the optimist, reminded us that without the current crisis sweeping the globe - and affecting his home nation so desperately - he would likely not have had the opportunity to re-connect with us. Coronavirus has prompted us all to reach out across our communities, our nation and our world to those we hold dear. Brazils experience with Covi...d-19 has been tragic and horrific - with the death toll of nearly 12,000 being the highest in South America. Andre and his family are safe and well, but he pointed out to us that inequality in his country has accounted for much of the galloping spread of the potentially lethal virus. Andre pointed out that many many people simply do not have the ability to remain at home, given the economic imperative of having to work in order to eat. It seems poverty in Brazil makes social distancing and self-isolation a luxury reserved for lucky countries... like Australia. Thank you, Andre, for the reminder of all those things about which we have to be grateful. See more

21.01.2022 What to do when a pandemic tries to take the fun outta getting together? Why, go to an adventure park, of course! For this weeks meeting, the Mac Rots gathered at the absolutely fabulous new playground at Elizabeth Park in Dubbo, near our citys exquisite Shoyoen Japanese Gardens where we enjoyed the super sunshine, each others company and some scrummo individually boxed lunches from Devils Hollow Brewery. AND we inducted a new (old) member, while some of our members enjoyed doing some... ahem... quality control on the playground equipment, which was deemed robust enough to entertain (and support!) some very big kids. Whats not to love about that kind of a Rotary Day?

20.01.2022 LUCKY LAST for the year! Come and say hi, buy a ticket from us! You might win a ham, but you WILL be helping support the people who support YOUR community! Get amongst it! :-)

20.01.2022 We're back in the kitchen... at Macquarie Homestay, where each month our club commits to cooking and sharing a meal with the guests at this wonderful support facility. Dubbo's four Rotary clubs, and a couple of other local community-based organisations, take it in turns on a roster system to provide this welcome support to people from across our region who are accessing medical facilities in the city and need a "home away from home". As it has with so many other aspects of... all our lives, Covid forced us to rethink how we could honour the commitment and we managed to stay connected and supportive by thinking outside the square, but we are now please to be able to resume semi-normal transmission! This week, our members Robyn, Tracey and Jen, whipped up an Italian/Aussie fusion feast - pasta, salad, garlic bread chased down by icecream and chocolate sauce. The meal was hearty, but the interaction and fellowship was even better. Thanks for having our "family" as part of your "family", Macquarie Homestay! See more

20.01.2022 We may be physically distanced, but we're doing everything we can to make sure we're socially connected to each other and to our community. One way our local "family" of Rotary is doing that, is by donating 300 specially made face masks to Meals on Wheels Dubbo for their clients to use. The presidents of each of Dubbo's four clubs put their heads together and bought the masks from local charities CanAssist and Pink Angels. Two very generous local ladies also made and donated a significant number of masks. Our picture shows the four presidents presenting the masks to Peter English and Nicole Shanks from Meals on Wheels (who both also happen to be active and dedicated Rotarians - so how's that for "wheels within wheels"?)

19.01.2022 Its always nice to get together for a bit of fellowship when we dont actually have to cook or serve the meal - and what better time to do that than with Christmas just around the corner? We were lucky enough to have our end-of-year Chrissy party at The Pear Tree cafe this year, where the food, the company and the festive spirit were all superb. Heres wishing everyone a happy, healthy and safe festive season and a smooth start to 2020 - and lets all send out our hopes for RAIN RAIN and more RAIN in Santas sack this year!

19.01.2022 FACT: IF YOU CLEAN OUT YOUR BOOKSHELF, YOU HAVE ROOM FOR MORE BOOKS! Were collecting books ahead of the Michael Egan book fair in May. Get your books to us today! (Dont stress, we still have another collection day and well let you know the details well in advance)

19.01.2022 "We are one, but we are many..." Marking Australia Day today as a club, a community, a nation - acknowledging and honouring the past, celebrating and working for the present with hope for the future. Thanks to all who came together today in Dubbo and around our beautiful region. Congratulations to all the award recipients and to those who took the wonderful leap of faith to become our fellow Aussies today :-)

19.01.2022 For one of our "out and about" meetings recently, we were fortunate enough to spend time at one of Dubbo's most visionary enterprises, The Exchange - a social impact organisation that provides co-working and community space and a hub of support and networking for a diverse range of business owners (many of them start-ups), creative individuals and visiting professionals - all housed in the magnificently and lovingly restored old Telstra (clocktower) building. To see the remar...kable restoration is itself a treat and well worth a visit, but we were also fortunate to have The Exchange founder and all-round impressive human being Jillian Kilby join us for an inspirational "exchange" of ideas and stories, including her own. The Exchange's Alex Cowley (who is no stranger to the club ) came in on her day off to give us a tour and tell us a bit more about all the fantastic things going on with the organisation. It was with great pride, therefore, that we were able to present to Jillian and her team, a donation towards The Exchange's "Seats for the Brave" initiative, which provides support to people who are starting up a secondary, off-farm business to support their farming family. As Alex told us, the aim is to "...serve as a landing pad for these bush (business) founders as they continue to scale their campaigns from right here in the regions". Our donation will provide two days of permanent workspace to Georgina Kelly from Gulargambone, who has just started an educational agribusiness called The Kid Crop - and we'll look forward to sharing more of Georgina's journey with her as time goes by. And after feeding our minds and souls with all this great stuff, we of course enjoyed lunch in The Exchange's wonderful event space - with a feast delivered by Sharon from Real Food Dubbo. Cracking day out. See more

18.01.2022 LOAD UP your "surplus to requirement" books and bring them on up! But PLEASE make sure theyre in excellent nick, and sorry, as much as it pains us, we cant take encyclopedias :-(

17.01.2022 Whos who at the zoo? Why, the Mighty Mac Rots, thats who! Today we continued our "Take That, Covid!" socially distanced tour of Dubbos outdoor venues, with lunch at Bakhitas Cafe at Taronga Western Plains Zoo, and where we were treated to yuuummmo individual platters in the stunning sunshine. We also managed to get up close and personal with some of TWPZs residents, including a particularly posh peacock named George, and head honcho Steve Hinks who gave us a run-down o...n how the worlds best open range zoo has been faring during the Covid-19 kerfuffle. All this against a back drop of the lemurs and spider monkeys putting on a show for lunch-time visitors. How goods our zoo? How lucky are we? And what a cracking way to welcome Spring! #takethatcovid19 #forthewild #rotaryrocks #RotaryOpensDoors See more

16.01.2022 We were honoured this week to be able to accept a very generous donation from our fellow member Shibli Chowdhury and some of his friends from the Dubbo Bangladesh community and the NSW Central West Muslims Association. The donation of $2300 will be directed to the District 9670 Bushfire Relief effort and also to the Rotary Club of Rylstone, which has been involved with providing catering support to the Rural Fire Service (RFS) Fire Control Base, operating in the town since B...oxing Day. Shibli had this to say about the motivation for what he called "a gesture of support for our fellow Australians": I am a proud Rotarian and I know that Rotary is a well-respected organisation that has a fantastic history of building relationships, and thats what we (Bangladesh and Muslim communities) want to do as well. We all feel it is our duty to stand up for Australia, and do our best to help our fellow Australians in this hard time. "We believe it is important to be part of our local community, and we also believe that when our community of Australia is in crisis, we must all work together to help each other. Thank you to all the members of the Bangladesh community and the Muslims Association in Dubbo and especially to our mate Shibli - you embody the very essence of Rotary: "Service Above Self" and were proud to have you not only as a member of our club and our "family" of Rotary, but as a fellow Aussie.

14.01.2022 The mighty Mac-Rots have had music on the brain for a while now and last week we were able to put the condition to good use with a very special presentation to local aged care facilities that made our hearts sing. So what’s the story? Glad you asked! An ABC documentary, Music on the Brain, highlighted the value of music as a therapeutic tool, demonstrating how playing music through headphones could have a positive effect on people suffering memory loss. In the documentary..., individually chosen songs were played through headphones for dementia patients and some of the results were instant and heart-warming, with one patient actually emerging from the fog to sing along with the words of a tune he had listened to as a younger man. While there wasn’t a dry eye in the house, it made us hope that perhaps the power of Rotary might be able to help more local dementia sufferers enjoy the benefits of music on the brain. We looked into how we might go about this quest, and with the support of Dubbo’s Jaycar Electronics (who did us a great deal) and assistance from Regional Australia Bank’s Community Partnership program, we were able to purchase 105 headset units. Of these, 70 will go to the dementia unit at Orana Gardens and 30 to the dementia unit at the Masonic Village. Our photo shows President Lawrie Donoghue and other club members presenting some of the headsets to representatives from the two facilities. What an honour it is to be able to assist our community in this way. To quote famed author Hans Christian Andersen, Where words fail, music speaks. If you would like to help us in this or other projects and activities we conduct throughout our community, contact us through private message and we'll tell you how you can get involved. 01.01.2022 Take that, Covid! You cant stop the mighty "Mac Rots" from getting together, even if we have to do so at a distance. This week, we took our lunchtime meeting to the banks of the beautiful Macquarie River, in one of our fair citys pretty parks, and although the wind was a wee bit keen, the sun shone and the fellowship was warm :-) In the absence of our usual formal end-of-year "Changeover", outgoing 2019-20 President Peter McInnes took the opportunity to give a wrap up o...f what has been a particularly difficult year in the chair, and symbolically hand the reins to 2020-21 President Lawrie Donoghue, whose introduction to the chair also comes at a challenging time. But we acknowledge how very fortunate we are to live in Australia... in a regional area... in the best state in the nation (!) and how many people around the world and in our own families and networks have had their lives turned upside down by this global pandemic. And so, as we keep our distance, we do what we can and we count our blessings.

01.01.2022 We are saddened today to hear of the death of our friend, former member and Past President, John Summers. We join in sending the love and good wishes of our Rotary "family" to his family.
