25.01.2022 Ronald McDonald House catering capably organised by Judith Chesterman February 2021 Our Rotary Club are very proud and privileged to have been able to be part of the dinner plan at South Australia’s Ronald McDonald House in North Adelaide. We hope the guests and volunteers at the house enjoyed our bbq, specially made salads and roast potatoes. Following the mains and to top it off, made on the premises, baked bread and butter pudding, fresh berries and sliced varieties of mel...on with cream or ice cream. A big thank you to our volunteers who helped our two rotary members out, Anthea, Di, Amy and John an outstanding effort.

23.01.2022 Tonight the exceptionally tenatious Cathy Booth talked about the trials, tribulations and triumphs of setting up and running the Umoja Orphanage in Kenya. Wow! Just wow! The Club provided a donation to her work.

23.01.2022 Walkerville Rotary Club members visited Cudlee Creek. After a pleasant lunch at the Cudlee Cafe Onkaparinga RC members lead us to one of their fencing project... sites. They demonstrated the work they are doing and spoke of the fire experience. Two fencing teams expect to be working two days per week until Christmas 2021 on the recovery activities. This was followed by a farm visit to Joan Gibbs and Terry Reardon's farm. They two talked about the fire experience and Terry hosted a walk to their dam and showed us how different species were recovering and how they were helping that recovery effort. Bird and bat boxes supplied by men's sheds in Adelaide plus kangaroo grass prpogated by Walkerville Rotary Club will help in that process. Evidence of the recovery to this stage is clear in the photographs.

07.01.2022 On Friday (25th of September), The Rotary Club of Walkerville enjoyed a social evening at the Hungarian Club in Norwood. Sixteen of us managed to make it on the night, to socialise and savour the richness of traditional Hungarian soup, goulash or pork with sauerkraut, and pancake. The secretary of the club went to great lengths to present us with aspects of Hungarian history and culture, bringing in her own examples of beautifully sewn flowers and food. She also was able ...to convey how hard it must have been when Hungary was reduced in size to little Hungary, to go to sleep one night living in Hungary, and to then wake up belonging to another country, for example to suddenly become Slovenian, for example. And how, even now, some Hungarians want their greater Hungary back, a hundred years later. People made a real effort to be there on a cold and very wet night; notably Bill and Anne Marsh, Walter and Marina Lebedew and Liz Horrocks and her sister, who came back early from the beach to share the evening with us. We had a few hiccups with the order, which were amicably resolved and isn’t that what life is about. Amicable sorting out when things aren’t 100% clear; international diplomacy Rotary style a la Hungary/Australia relations, a reaching out between nations within Australia and the opening of doors with the one English speaking Rotary club in Budapest by our president, Richard Bentley. Stella, the secretary of the Hungarian Club who graciously went to so much trouble to speak to us.

04.01.2022 The 2020 Walkerville Art Show opened by Rachel Sanderson

02.01.2022 Walkerville Rotary Club begins our 2021 year On Wednesday, January 20, members of the Rotary Club of Walkerville reconvened socially, at what has become a tradition, at Willow Bend on the River Torrens. The BBQ at the venue was supplied to the community by the Rotary Club and stands as a tribute to our late esteemed member Rex Adams. The club supply the meat, sausage and lamb chops, which were cooked, par excellence, by head chef, Gavan McCormack with assistance from Peter S...owden. Most people arrive with a salad or dessert. Chris Richer brought his famous pavlova, and you had to be quick serving yourself that one. Other than food and drink, we had a lovely evening socialising after the Christmas break, watching the bird life and putting out feelers for the year ahead. It was especially lovely to have so many children running happily around. Our thoughts now move towards the business of Rotary and the year ahead.
