22.01.2022 Showgrounds Community Men's Shed are having an open day on Saturday 5th December from 9am to 1pm. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the important work they do as well as pick up some quality, handcrafted gifts for Christmas. They also have an impressive plant selection! The Showgrounds Community Men's Shed is a project that our Club is proud to support. The role they play in their community is vital, providing connection and purpose, and we salute them for their dedication and commitment.

20.01.2022 On 11 November 1918, the guns of the Western Front fell silent after four years of continuous warfare. With their armies retreating and close to collapse, German leaders signed an Armistice, bringing to an end the First World War. In the four years of the war more than 330,000 Australians had served overseas, and more than 60,000 of them had died. Today we remember those who were lost and those who came home. We remember those who came home changed by war and the families lef...t behind who were also changed. On the 11th hour, of the 11th day of the 11th month, we remember them.

18.01.2022 Recently we were privileged to have Janice Early and Grace Kelly from Comfort Keepers Perth as guests at our Club Breakfast. Comfort Keepers is an organisation that provides a range of tailored home support services, designed to keep West Australians independent in their own homes and connected to family, friends and the wider community. With over 30 years experience in the age care industry you can feel that Janice is emotionally invested in her job and the community she ser...ves. Janice spoke about the importance of our aged Australian community remaining independent, safe and comfortable living in their own home, while still being supported to live their best lives. Janice also highlighted that, following the findings from the Royal Commission into Aged Care, there are many areas that require focus and attention for improvement in the sector. She also pointed out that there are also many examples of excellent care within the sector that should be shared and celebrated. Thank you Janice for sharing your passion and knowledge with us. We are so blessed to have people like you working behind the scenes to create a better future for our elderly community here in WA.

15.01.2022 Rotary Club of West Perth used a Rotary Foundation Grant in 1990 to set up the Bali Eye Clinic. A mobile eye clinic operating theatre was fitted out in Perth and delivered by Hercules aeroplane to Bali courtesy of the Royal Australian Air Force. The program was so successful that it incorporated in 2002 in the name of The John Fawcett Foundation Inc thus having the ability to raise funds and offer tax deductibility in its own right.... The program acquired several more mobile clinics from Australia and expanded to other Indonesian islands with the assistance of the Indonesian Air Force Hercules arm which transported vehicles. Volunteer specialists from Australia have trained a large number of local medical personnel and the clinic continues to provide these life changing surgeries to this day. 03.01.2022 It was wonderful to receive an update from Solomon Mbusa on the outcome of the MERC (Medical Equipment Recycling Committee) equipment that has been distributed in the Congo. Solomon provided an overview of the charity that he works for called The Murimo Centre, which is seeks to address poverty and hunger by educating the local community in sustainable integrated agriculture that will create job sustainability and food sources for local communities. Below you can see an exam...ple of medical equipment donated as part of MERC through West Perth Rotary Club being used by those who need it most in Pinga Walikale in the Congo. We look forward to hearing more from Solomon following his return from the Congo in a few months.
