25.01.2022 With the high winds and continued drought plus fire damage please be careful of falling trees

23.01.2022 Thanks to Tenterfield Shire and the crew working on Ogilvie Drive today for their work extinguishing a woodchip pile on fire at Jubullum village today. So easy when the right equipment is at hand.

22.01.2022 With the generosity of MJ Smith Earthmoving Frazers Cutting Station has had some major earthworks done today.

22.01.2022 Why do fires burn faster uphill? As a fire travels uphill, there's less space between the flames and new fuel to burn. Radiant heat from the fire also prehe...ats the fuel in front of it, making the fuel easier to ignite. The steeper the land, the faster a bushfire will spread; for every 10 degrees in uphill slope, the speed of a fire will double. On the other hand, with fires moving downhill there's more distance between the flames and new fuel, so fires will spread more slowly. 20.01.2022 Dangerous fire conditions forecast for Tuesday 12 November Tuesday will be a dangerous day. Based on the latest forecast, we are likely to see widespread Severe... and Extreme fire danger. This is expected to stretch from the Queensland border to the south coast, and across the Central West. There is already extensive fire activity across the north coast and northern NSW areas. These fires won’t be contained in time. Under these conditions, these fires will spread quickly and will threaten homes and lives. These conditions will be as bad, if not worse, than those experienced on Friday as they will be across a much broader area including large population centres like Sydney. There are significant resources committed to fires and they are limited. If you are threatened by fire, you may not get help. Monitor conditions over the next few days. Use the time now to get ready. Stay up to date on bush fires in your area and take responsibility for your own safety.

19.01.2022 The Long Gully Rd Fire near Drake has been declared OUT this afternoon after starting from a lightning strike on the 5 September. The fire burnt more than 74,0...00ha of bush and farm land. It destroyed 44 homes, damaged a further 22 however almost 300 were saved across the fireground. Most tragically the fire claimed the lives of Gwen Hyde and Bob Lindsey. Over a 1000 firefighters were deployed to fight the fire and they were assisted by dozens of aircraft. Tonight the fire fight continues across the state on almost 80 firegrounds. All this and it’s still only spring! Photos: Daniel Waters NSW RFS See more

14.01.2022 Thanks to the crew of three today who attended a fire in a woodchip pile at Jubullum Village. The fire was extinguished with water after a lot of raking

12.01.2022 A huge thanks to all brigade members manning Frazers Cutting 7 over the last few days on the Long Gully Fire. Sadly this fire is the 5th major fire in the Tenterfield Shire inside the last 7 months. If you’re thinking about volunteering to help in any way, stop, think no more, get along to your brigade and DO IT.

12.01.2022 This season, fires have now burnt out 2.7 million hectares with a perimeter of 19,235 kms. Of this, the current 87 fires, incorporate 2.1 million hectares and a... perimeter of 11,095 kms. My admiration and sincere appreciation again to all involved, supporting and affected by this extraordinary season. NSW Rural Fire Service

09.01.2022 THE POWER OF FIRE Ancient traditions of land management by fire have been handed down to generations of Aboriginal people. But as with some indigenous lang...uages, there is a fear that knowledge will be lost. National Landcare funded the project through Northern Tablelands Local Land Services who teamed up with a number of groups including the Banbai Aboriginal Corporation to host a workshop at Jubullum in Northern NSW. They also enlisted the help of Victor Steffensen an indigenous fire expert from Cape York and The Firesticks Alliance which is passing on traditional knowledge to a new generation. Jen Ingall

09.01.2022 Some interesting reading on the recent fire events in Northern NSW and Southern Queensland. http://www.bom.gov.au/climate/current/statements/scs71.pdf

09.01.2022 Hazard reduction burning isn't backburning, nor is it a cure-all for preventing bushfires. So what exactly is it?

09.01.2022 A Total Fire Ban has been declared for the following fire weather areas: New England Northern Slopes North Western... This is in effect from 00:01 to 23:59 on Thursday 5th September 2019. A total fire ban means no fires out in the open. A total fire ban helps limit the potential of fires developing. During a Total Fire Ban you cannot light, maintain or use a fire in the open, or to carry out any activity in the open that causes, or is likely to cause, a fire. General purpose hot works (such as welding, grinding or gas cutting or any activity that produces a spark or flame) are not to be done in the open. Can I use an electric barbeque? You can use an electric barbeque for cooking as long as it is under the direct control of a responsible adult, who is present at all times while it is operating, and no combustible material is allowed within two metres at any time it is operating. Can I use a gas barbeque? You can use a gas barbeque under the following conditions: It is under the direct control of a responsible adult, who is present at all times while it is operating; No combustible material is allowed within two metres at any time it is operating; You have an immediate and continuous supply of water; and The barbeque is within 20 metres of a permanent private dwelling such as a home; or The barbeque is within a designated picnic area and the appliance is approved by Council, National Parks or State Forest. Can I use a barbeque or pizza oven which burns solid fuel (e.g. wood, charcoal or heat beads)? No. A barbeque or wood fire pizza oven which uses solid fuel, such as wood, charcoal or heat beads, cannot be used outside during a Total Fire Ban. Can I use fire during a Total Fire Ban if I have a fire permit? Permits are suspended on days of total fire ban. Permits may resume after the total fire ban is lifted, as long as the permit hasn't expired.

07.01.2022 Our fire season has started. Frazers Cutting crews have been out for the last 3 days working on the Pretty Gully Fire. Strong NW winds have proved challenging for firefighters to establish containment lines.

07.01.2022 Thanks to the crews for the great work over the last few days on the pretty gully fire. Good luck and stay safe up there today.

03.01.2022 Great work to the crew that was able to go and stop 16 plus fires that was lit on purpose..... All in an afternoons work

02.01.2022 Bushfires can create their own weather, generating ‘pyrocumulonimbus’ clouds and storms These clouds can cause dangerous and unpredictable changes in fire b...ehaviour, making the fire more difficult and hazardous to fight. So, how do they form? 1. A plume of hot, turbulent air and smoke rises. 2. Turbulence mixes cooler air into the plume, causing it to broaden and cool as it rises. 3. When the plume rises high enough, low atmospheric pressure causes its air to cool and cloud to form. 4. In an unstable atmosphere a thunderstorm can develop: pyrocumulonimbus cloud. 5. Rain in the cloud evaporates and cools when it comes into contact with dry air, producing a downburst. 6. Lightning may be produced and can ignite new fires. Find out more, including how our scientists are working to be able to predict them, in our blog: http://ow.ly/3t1i50x8nM6 For the latest fire weather warnings see http://ow.ly/tbTN50x8nz8, and follow advice from emergency services NSW Rural Fire Service Queensland Fire and Emergency Services - QFES ABC Emergency

02.01.2022 This gives you an idea of the massive task facing firefighters and the community across northern NSW. A number of fires have already joined up, and more are ex...pected to join in the coming days. This means from north to south, firefighters will be working across an area stretching nearly 300 kilometres. Added up, all of the fires across NSW have an edge of more than 6,000 kilometres. That's roughly the equivalent of flying from Sydney to Perth... and back again.
