25.01.2022 Another one for the diary ....

22.01.2022 Please join in congratulating Lal Bochung on being the inaugural recipient of the Bruce Parker OAM, Rotary Club of Doncaster Vocational Award. Lal recently completed his Certificate 111 in Landscape Construction at the Box Hill Institute after overcoming significant hardships. These included arriving in Australia as a refugee from Myanmar in 2017 with no English skills and very little formal training, as well as no local network. He truly is an inspiration. The BHI staff ha...ve done an amazing job facilitating Lal's development and creating opportunities for him, including his successful nomination for this Vocational Award. We are very proud to be associated with the Box Hill Institute and wish Lal every success as he makes his mark in his adopted country. #WeAreRotary #PeopleOfAction

20.01.2022 The participants in 2021 Challenge to Lead program. Last week on 6th-7th May, our Club's major fundraiser, the Challenge to Lead (C2L) program was conducted at the Canterbury International at Forest Hill. The program was rescheduled from October 2020 due to COVID to May this year. C2L is a two day residential leadership program conducted by professional facilitators pro bono. This year we had a record of 21 participants from a wide range of organisations, from Not For Profits..., Councils and businesses. The participants included two Rotaractors and the winner of the Manningham Business Excellence Award for 2019, John Donohue from John Donohue Auto and Mechanical Repairs, Bullen. A number of Club members attended the breakfast where guest speaker Victor Perton (https://www.centreforoptimism.com/) gave an entertaining and inspiring presentation about the need for optimism, especially when the media too often report the negative and not the positive. At the breakfast, Kevin O'Donnell presented Heiner Karst with a PHF. Heiner has been a facilitator for the program for the past four years. A special thanks to the Club Members who assisted in making the C2L program a success. The program would not have been a success without the dedication and professionalism of the facilitators, Alan Colvin, Lisa Galbraith and Natasha Focci. We are planning for 2021 and anticipating an increase in numbers and continuing support from organisations who have been sending employees from past years. From the C2L Team

08.01.2022 Rotarian’s and Rotaractor’s love their acronyms, but love making a difference through their passions even more! The 2020 RAM (Rotarians Against Malaria) virtual conference is in full swing with Day 1 showcasing research efforts, and strategies, to reduce malaria transmission and to develop a vaccine. Club member Shelley Gurney (and D9810 RAM Supervisor) also shared her personal malaria story which had a happy ending resulting from past research and care.... Day 2 starts at 10am and everyone is welcome. Click this link to join the conversation https://ram.rawcs.com.au/2020-conference/ #WeAreRotary #PeopleOfAction

06.01.2022 The internationality of Rotary was clearly evident last night as we joined online with our name sake Club in England, Rotary Club of Doncaster, UK ! Half a world apart, we joined in the spirit of friendship and service to hear the latest in our respective efforts to make a difference in the world. We all learned more about each others projects and passions, and how we had worked together over the years. It was a lot of fun and we look forward to when we next catch-up.... An added bonus the induction of Wendy into our Club. Please join in welcoming Wendy to the family of Rotary. #WeAreRotary #PeopleOfAction
