19.01.2022 Goodness ghosts goosebumps. Holidays absolutely flew past and Term 4 classes start on Monday the 12/10/20! We can't wait to see everyones faces again, and than...kyou to those who have secured their places in their chosen classes by paying their fees or purchasing of a class card for the coming term. We aim to keep class sizes low so that there is plenty of individual attention, and covid safety. We are also asking for expressions of interest from parents of mini circus stars, for a special general class on Tuesday s at 4pm specially for those youngest acrobats, aerialists and characters aged 4ish to 7ish, just shoot us a message or email, and we'll make it happen! We are also so excited to announce our first Halloween celebration, busy bee and fund raiser details coming very soon. Dan P and the M.A.A.S team.

01.01.2022 As we close out reconciliation week, we would like to share the story of William (Billy) Jones, known as Nugget Jones, an Aboriginal circus acrobat who was bo...rn near Dubbo, NSW in 1842. Billy was one of the first Aboriginal people to be employed in circus in Australia. He was noted as a young performer in Bathurst as early as 1851 and dubbed Little Nugget. Billy performed in John Jones equestrian troupe in Sydney in May 1852 and took on his name. Billys original surname has been lost to history. The equestrian troupe was part of John Malcolms circus, where Billy learned tightwire and acrobatics as well as furthering his equestrian training. In outback towns, he drew the attention of the public by ascending and descending a rope stretched from a tree stump to the centre pole of the circus. Visiting Hobart Town with W. H. Foleys Californian Circus in 1866, he walked a rope stretched from the top of the circus pole to the Theatre Royal on the other side of Argyle Street, at a height of about fifty feet (15 m) to the cheers of people below. His marvellous versatility and agility remained undiminished despite advancing age. In 1873 with Bird & Taylors Great American Circus at Kapunda, South Australia, he somersaulted his aldermanic corporation so rapidly it was almost impossible to tell his head from his feet. With St Leons Circus in Brisbane in 1882 he gave a very neat display . . . with balls and knives with great rapidity, and without the slightest mistake. The last years of his circus career were spent with the FitzGerald brothers circus as a horse-trainer and ringmaster. He could still captivate audiences as late as 1896 with his leap over twenty horses. he retired from his circus career in the early 1900s to become a coach-driver on the Mount Morgan road, Queensland. He was brought out of retirement in 1905 to appear one last time with FitzGeralds in Sydney as Old William Jones. His was one of very few Aboriginal lives in the circus of the time which was entered into willingly and which resulted in great success. At a time where Aboriginal people were tricked and kidnapped into the circus, Billy "Nugget" Jones life was an example of the good that Australia could do and what the country could be. Its a story of the success of a self-made man. #NRW #Inthistogether2020

01.01.2022 To our partners, artist, contractors, sponsors, volunteers and the wider Funtavia community. We sadly advise that the Funtavia Festival planned for 1-2 May 2020..., will be rescheduled due to our concerns about the impact of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak upon the event. This decision has been made with careful consideration by the Funtavia Board after undertaking an extensive risk management exercise. The Board attained the most relevant, objective information available to us from responsible agencies and authoritative health officers to make the decision. Professional public health advice provided to Funtavia included a projection that confirmed COVID-19 cases in WA are expected to peak around July/August 2020. Therefore the closer Funtavia is to that time, the greater the risk. This advice, along with further information relevant to Funtavia circumstances, greatly assisted our risk management process and decision making. We had to act now to meet our financial responsibilities to our sponsors, performers, and contractors and to best position Funtavia to weather the COVID-19 storm based upon the very best information we can obtain right now. We strongly believe this is the right decision for Funtavia given the current circumstances. A core value of Funtavia is providing an event and atmosphere where participants feel safe to enjoy each others company. Our Festival is joyous, often closely packed, and a boisterous celebration of community spirit. We believe this sense of security and good will is compromised by the overshadowing concerns of the potential impact of COVID-19 in our community. The Festival will be rescheduled once there is clarity around the extent of the COVID-19 impact on the Midwest. Once there is stability, Funtavia will regroup to determine the best time to hold the Festival. Whether you are an artist, partner, sponsor, volunteer or patron, please know that we greatly value all the time, effort and support you have already invested into the Festival. We appreciate your cooperation on this and look forward to your ongoing support moving towards an incredible festival into the future. We will continue to update you as we progress. Rob Jefferies Chair, Funtavia Inc
