23.01.2022 Covid19. Reopening of Trail It is the intention of the Tasmanian Trail Association to reopen the Trail on the 15 June subject to land management authorities such as The Hydro Electric Commission, and Sustainable Timber Tasmania (Forestry), also opening their areas. The Trail passes over land under their control. The administration of the Trail will be reactivated and Membership and guidebook sales will again be processed. When the Trail is open, and as you pass along the ro...ute you should exercise social distancing practices in the event of you meeting up with others, particularly any land owners or workmen. As there has been no maintenance of the Trail over the last few months you may come across situations that require action and it would be greatly appreciated if you would report these through the Registration/Progress Report system so that our area coordinators can deal with them. 20.01.2022 COVID-19 In line with Government policy the Tasmanian Trail will be closed from 1 April for 2 months and it’s administration will be in recess. Maintenance of the Trail will cease and all administrative actions will be suspended. Area coordinators will not be maintaining the Trail and will not be able to assist trekkers. Memberships and guidebook sales will not be processed. All our volunteers will concentrate on keeping safe. Other reasons for the closure include the fact t...hat accomodation and other services along the Trail may be difficult to find and that private land should not be entered to prevent contact with land owners. The situation will be reassessed about the beginning of June. Essential matters can be directed to the Secretary. See more

19.01.2022 29.7.20 Campsite at Bushy Park (page 56 of the guidebook). Due to ill health, the caretaker is not currently available. The show ground committee has asked that the grounds not be used by Trail users until further notice and until a caretaker is again available and also until a COVID-19 plan is developed. The committee advises that this is a temporary closure. The Tasmanian Trail Association is looking for an area in the vicinity to serve as a short-term replacement.

07.01.2022 We want your opinion Thanks to your membership we can afford to build a couple more shelters- this is where your membership money goes, Maintaining the Tas Trail and infrastructure for campsites. The first photo is how the shelters are set up now. The second is an alternative giving more room for gear, sleeping area/seating, smaller table but space to move. Which would suit better? Do you have an alternative? Please let us know your thoughts.

01.01.2022 28.8.20 Repulse Bridge An enquiry to the HEC has revealed that only vehicles are restricted from using the Repluse bridge(point 9.7, page 50) Trail users can continue to use the structure to cross the Derwent River. The existing barriers are set back enough to allow bikes and horses accessing the bridge. In the not too distance future all access will be prohibited while repair or upgrading work will be undertaken.
