24.01.2022 Today Redland City Council recognised 26 NAIDOC Ambassadors within the organisation. These Ambassadors are Council staff and elected reps who have through their words and actions have shown a genuine desire to build respectful and meaningful relationships with Indigenous peoples and believe in Council’s reconciliation goals. As part of acknowledging the long and rich history of not only Redlands Coast but Australia, Council has dual named our meeting rooms and wrapped a flee...t vehicle in Quandamooka art. This reconciliation piece was created by Josh Walker, a Quandamooka/Scottish/Irish man. Titled Kanara Malara - One People The concentric circles on either side of the canvas that are surrounded by the ‘U’ shapes represent the Indigenous and non-Indigenous people sitting in their camps discussing reconciliation, and sending three delegates from each side to sit in the middle and talk about reconciliation and how they can move forward together in harmony like the Emu and Kangaroo families that marry into one another. The red ‘U’ shapes represent the Indigenous people of Australia. The yellow ‘U’ shapes represent the non- Indigenous people of Australia. The large semi-circle shapes on either side of the canvas, one yellow, the other red, represent the people having empathy for the other side while discussing reconciliation and moving forward for a better future for all.
